Actor Radhika Apte said the Indian film industry is not conducive to new mothers. She spoke about facing challenges while navigating family time as a working mother. The 'Sister Midnight' actor also reflected on the number of working hours on film sets.Radhika expressed concerns about how she would balance motherhood alongside work. When asked whether the film industry is conducive to new mothers in an interview with The Indian Express, she said, "I don't think they are. I don't know how I'm going to navigate that going ahead."advertisementThe actor further pointed out the long working hours along with raising children in the entertainment industry and said, "It's really difficult to work in our film industry, given the number of hours and how we film generally, and the time for which we don't get to see the child. So I guess I'll just have to figure it out now."
The debate around working mothers in Hindi cinema started after Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 'Spirit' for allegedly demanding an 8-hour work schedule.Actors Ajay Devgn and Kajol also backed the work standard for new mothers, during 'Maa' trailer launch. When asked about new mothers being allowed an eight-hour shift, Ajay said, "It's not that it's not going well with people. People understand. Most of the honest filmmakers, I would say, will not have a problem with this and, apart from this, being a mother and working for eight hours, usually people have started working eight to nine hours in a shift.
