Radhika Apte on how industry isn't conducive to new mothers: It's really difficult

India Today2 days ago

Actor Radhika Apte said the Indian film industry is not conducive to new mothers. She spoke about facing challenges while navigating family time as a working mother. The 'Sister Midnight' actor also reflected on the number of working hours on film sets.Radhika expressed concerns about how she would balance motherhood alongside work. When asked whether the film industry is conducive to new mothers in an interview with The Indian Express, she said, "I don't think they are. I don't know how I'm going to navigate that going ahead."advertisementThe actor further pointed out the long working hours along with raising children in the entertainment industry and said, "It's really difficult to work in our film industry, given the number of hours and how we film generally, and the time for which we don't get to see the child. So I guess I'll just have to figure it out now."
The debate around working mothers in Hindi cinema started after Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 'Spirit' for allegedly demanding an 8-hour work schedule.Actors Ajay Devgn and Kajol also backed the work standard for new mothers, during 'Maa' trailer launch. When asked about new mothers being allowed an eight-hour shift, Ajay said, "It's not that it's not going well with people. People understand. Most of the honest filmmakers, I would say, will not have a problem with this and, apart from this, being a mother and working for eight hours, usually people have started working eight to nine hours in a shift. So I think it's person-to-person, that most of the industry does understand."Apte's film 'Sister Midnight' was released on May 30.Trending Reel

Bangalore Girl Deepika Padukone Reacts To Virat Kohli's Post After RCB's Historic IPL Win

Last Updated: Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their first IPL title with a 6-run win over Punjab Kings in the 2025 final. After nearly two decades of unwavering commitment, Virat Kohli has finally lifted the IPL trophy — and with it, the weight of 18 long seasons. Royal Challengers Bengaluru etched their name in history with a thrilling 6-run win over Punjab Kings in the 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Virat Kohli, the face of RCB since its inception, played a pivotal role in the victory, contributing 43 runs off 35 balls. The triumph was sealed by stellar bowling performances from Krunal Pandya, who was named Player of the Match for his 2/17 spell, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who took 2/38. Celebrations erupted both on and off the field with the star player celebrating with franchise legends AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle. Virat Kohli also shared photos from the jubilant moments, including lifting the trophy alongside teammates. The post has also raked in millions of likes, with Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, a Bangalore native, among those who liked and reacted to the photos. Actress Athiya Shetty, wife of cricketer KL Rahul, Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and wife Anushka Sharma also joined in, expressing their admiration for the team's achievement. Deepika Padukone, infact, has a deep connection to Bangalore. Though born in Denmark, she grew up in Bangalore, studied at Sophia High School and Mount Carmel College, and often shares fond memories of the city — from playing badminton in the mornings to enjoying dosas at local spots. She has also supported Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL. In the early years, especially around 2010, she was often seen at matches cheering. While she hasn't attended games recently, looks like she still quietly supports the team. Meanwhile, after leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a historic IPL 2025 title, Virat Kohli gave a heartfelt tribute to his wife, actress Anushka Sharma, in a post-match interaction that has now gone viral. The win marks the end of RCB's 18-year-long wait for the coveted IPL trophy, and Kohli made sure to acknowledge the emotional and personal support he's received over the years from Anushka. 'She's been coming here and supporting RCB since 2014, so it's been 11 years for her as well," Virat said, visibly emotional. 'She's been there relentlessly — coming to the games, watching the tough ones, watching us just miss out. What your life partner does for you to be able to play, the sacrifices, the commitment, and just backing you through thick and thin — it's something you can't really explain in words." Kareena Kapoor Khan, a passionate yoga devotee, often shares snippets of her rigorous workout routines on social media. In a recent chat with The Nod magazine, she opened up about the changes she's made to her sleep schedule. 'I have dinner by 6 pm and turn off the lights by 9:30 pm. I wake up early to work out and cherish some quiet solo time. My friends know not to expect me at parties, and they respect that. Usually, I'm just watching Schitt's Creek on low volume," Kareena revealed. She also emphasized how fitness has become crucial for her well-being, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. On the family front, Kareena shared her love for cooking with Saif and their kids. She insists on having at least one traditional Indian meal daily, while Saif has developed a keen interest in Kerala cuisine. 'We enjoy cooking together — Saif is obsessed with Kerala dishes like idiyappams and coconut stews. For me, one proper Indian meal a day is non-negotiable," she shared.
