Farmer in Jalgaon allegedly kills wife over affair suspicion before ending life
Nashik: A farmer from Hatgaon village in Jalgaon's Chalisgaon taluka allegedly killed his wife before taking his own life on Monday at 11.30 am. The Chalisgaon taluka police have filed a murder case under section 103(1) of the BNS.
The deceased were identified as Vijay Chavanke (45) and his wife Varsha (40).
According to police reports, between 9.30am and 11.25 am, Vijay strangled his wife and subsequently hanged himself in their field. Ashok Chavanke, Vijay's elder brother, who lives separately with his family, reported in his police statement that he had seen the couple collecting water for livestock from the tank near his house around 9.30am on Monday.
Later, he got busy with his work.
At 11.25 am, Ashok received a telephone call from his younger brother Rajendra, a Nashik resident, informing him about Vijay's call confessing to killing Varsha and expressing intentions of self-harm. Ashok, accompanied by other family members, rushed to the farm where they discovered Vijay hanging from a tree. They found Varsha's body in the cattle fodder with a rope around her neck.
Police investigations revealed that Vijay had killed Varsha due to suspicions about her fidelity before ending his life. Ashok told police that Vijay had expressed strong doubts about Varsha's alleged extramarital relationship about a month ago. The complaint also mentioned that Vijay's mental health had deteriorated following an accident two years prior, leading to frequent arguments between the couple.
At the time of the incident, the couple's daughter was visiting her uncle in Nashik, while their son was away for college admission procedures.

Delhi Court Refuses to Take Cognisance of Chargesheet Against Udit Raj in Protest Case
New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday refused to take cognisance of a chargesheet against Congress functionary Udit Raj in a case of allegedly disobeying a Delhi Police prohibitory order while holding a protest at the house of former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal earlier this year. The court of additional chief judicial magistrate Neha Mittal said there was nothing on record to show that the accused had knowledge of the order. "It is also pertinent to note that there is no evidence on record regarding the identity of the accused. Despite the fact that the incident in question was videographed by the police officials, the accused cannot be seen in the entire video," it added. Raj, along with a few others, staged a protest near Kejriwal's residence on Jan 20, demanding a monthly salary for Buddhist monks and priests of Guru Ravidas and Valmiki temples. According to police, Raj's protest caused traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters. Police claimed that the protesters were informed about the prohibitory order and the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct through loudspeaker announcements. However, the court found these claims unsubstantiated. The court also said that no police officer was specifically named in the chargesheet as having made such an announcement, nor were their statements recorded under Section 180 BNS. "In view of the above discussion, this court is of the considered opinion that there does not exist sufficient ground for taking cognisance of the offence punishable under Section 223 BNS. No other offence appears to be made out from the chargesheet. Accordingly, cognisance in the present case is declined," the judge concluded.
