A new design shows how Bell's Sports Centre in Perth could look if it is reopened as a fully-heated indoor sports facility.
Campaigners believe the iconic North Inch complex should be reinstated to serve the sporting communities that used it before it was shut by flooding.
However, the local authority has put forward plans to turn Bell's into an unheated event space with sports pitches.

This view has been backed by nine national sporting bodies and nearly 3,700 people who have signed a petition to save the facility.
The campaigners enlisted the help of architect Alastair Fitchet, who has worked pro bono with them for the last six months to help design new drawings for the facility. Councils Bell's plans make no sense to architect
Alistair, who owns Ajfitchet Architects in Dundee, told The Courier it is important Bell's and its B-listed dome structure are protected.
He said: 'I feel it's incredibly important.

The architect called the structure 'iconic' and says his new redesign 'acknowledges' the listed status.
'The dome is the key part,' Alastair says.
'I don't see any way a building like this would get built today.
'We need to protect it.'

The architect acknowledges his designs are at early stage of the process but hopes it will help spark the imagination for what is possible at Bell's.

The controversial plans for Bell's tie into the council's overall new leisure centre proposals which have been met with a huge backlash by residents as they don't feature a dedicated leisure pool.
PKCSN also argues the indoor sports provision at the new facility is far less than they already had at Bell's.
David Munro, chairperson of the campaign group, told The Courier: 'The people of Perth are being deprived.

'The only people I've spoken to that are in favour of an unheated option are a few councillors.'
The future of the facility is set to be discussed by the council next month, alongside plans for PH20.
A local authority spokesperson said: 'Almost 2,000 people responded to the consultation on the future of Bell's Sports Centre.
'A summary of responses has been provided to councillors and will be used to inform our proposals for the sports centre when they are presented to council in June.'

No health impact assessments done for Perth Thimblerow leisure centre plans
No research has been done on how the reduction in leisure facilities at a new PH2O Thimblerow will impact health and wellbeing in the city. The controversial plans to build a new sports centre without a dedicated leisure pool has been met with near-universal backlash from residents and sports clubs alike. The revelation comes nine months after Perth and Kinross Council chief executive Thomas Glen was probed on the same issue, but still no assessments have been carried out. The council boss was questioned by Independent councillor Colin Stewart at the time. Mr Stewart asked: 'If we reduce the overall sport offering in Perth and Kinross, what assessment have you made of how that aligns with the corporate objective of improving people's health and wellbeing?' In response, Mr Glen said no such assessments had been carried out. 'We haven't done an assessment specifically round around any individual sport, round about the health impacts, we haven't done it for ice, we haven't done it for swimming, we haven't done it for any other sport,' said the chief executive. The latest revelation is the latest in a series of concerns about the lack of studies and consultations carried out by either the council or Live Active Leisure (LAL) in regards to the new leisure plans. The Courier revealed that LAL failed to carry out any consultation in their Equality and Fairness Impact Assessment (EIFA) regarding their plans to remove the gym from Bell's Sports Centre. Leisure bosses also appear to have ignored advice from their own independent consultants to hold a public consultation on the plans. World champion curlers claim their community was 'sidelined' by council officers in talks over the future of the Dewars Centre when they questioned the local authority's usage figures. In February, The Courier revealed that Perth and Kinross Council failed to consult with the board of Live Active Leisure on the plans for Thimblerow. Campaigners have also accused the local authority of conducting a 'misleading' consultation on plans to turn Bell's Sports Centre into an unheated arena with artificial pitches. The council want to build a watered-down vision of PH2O, incorporating Bell's Sports Centre, and turn the North Inch facility into an unheated arena with artificial pitches. Campaigners, including the curlers, swim clubs and former LAL board members, have heavily criticised the plans. 'This includes school halls available for rent which, together with the six-court hall to be included in PH20, will provide adequate and additional space for indoor sport and leisure,' said a council spokesperson. 'We will be introducing a consolidated booking system to make it easier for groups to access these facilities. 'Councillors approved plans to create Thimblerow in September 2024 and will be presented with proposals for additional leisure water options, as they requested, later this month.'

Young footy player Malaki Moreton-is airlifted to hospital with a serious spinal injury after horror incident during game
A promising young footballer from the NSW South Coast has been airlifted to hospital after suffering a horror spinal injury during a rugby league match over the weekend. Corrimal Cougars player Malaki Moreton was rushed to North Ryde Hospital before later being moved to a spinal unit at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney following the incident. Moreton, an Indigenous man and teaching student at the University of Wollongong, has since undergone surgery. His community on the South Coast is rallying to help with costs, setting up a GoFundMe that has been shared by Parramatta Eels star Josh Addo-Carr. 'Malakai's family have uprooted their lives to be there for Mal, which unfortunately comes at a financial cost,' the page reads. 'Mals recovery is unknown and has now been transferred to North Shore spinal unit in Sydney.' Moreton has since undergone surgery and is recovering in hospital while a GoFundMe (pictured) has been set up for him The page, which at the time of writing has raised more than $21,000, has been shared widely in the footy community. The Cougars sent their support to the young player in a statement on social media. 'All of the Cougars family are behind you and your family,' the statement reads. 'Get well soon mate!' Moreton's former footy club, the Moruya Sharks, have also sent their regards and encouraged members to get behind the GoFundMe campaign. 'We would like to wish our former player Malaki a speedy recovery,' the club wrote on social media.
