Scottish hidden railway garden with Thomas the Tank Engine models is perfect family day out

Daily Record12-05-2025

Kids and train lovers will enjoy this magical railway hidden in the woods just an hour from Glasgow
Tucked away in the woodlands near Gask in Perthshire, just over an hour's drive from Glasgow, lies a hidden gem for young train enthusiasts and nostalgic adults alike, the Perthshire Garden Railway.
Open from Friday to Sunday, this outdoor attraction brings model trains to life in a beautifully landscaped setting filled with flowers, bridges and mini rivers.

Since opening just over a year ago, it's become a firm family favourite. The standout feature is the Thomas the Tank Engine section, where children can meet Thomas, Percy, James, Toby and Emily, Glasgow Live reports.

'Their eyes move like they do in the cartoons, so it really looks like they're saying hi as they zoom by,' said one visitor, who brought along two mesmerised toddlers.
The railway is located just off the A9 near Auchterarder, with signs leading down a narrow rural path to a small parking area. Once inside, a welcoming ticket hut also serves up teas, freshly brewed coffee and cakes.
After exploring, visitors can relax with refreshments in the cosy seating area or take their treats outside and enjoy the views of the surrounding garden.
The attraction is filled with themed sections, including a Wild West scene featuring the Santa Fe Express and Union Pacific F7, and a nostalgic Trumpton village for older visitors to recognise from 60s television.

With so much to see, families can easily spend hours wandering the miniature world, if they can tear little ones away from Thomas and friends.
The garden currently enjoys a flawless five-star rating on TripAdvisor, with glowing praise from visitors. One reviewer wrote: 'Such a beautiful spot to relax.

"My son loves it and it's safe for kids to run around. The café and amenities are basic but the staff and owner are so friendly. I heard it hasn't been open for too long so hopefully it can gain more visitors. Also fantastic for ASD kids like mine.'
Another added: 'Beautiful, quiet little wonderland in the woods. This is a beautiful, amazingly decorated and designed area with little trains of all types going around various sized tracks.
"A wonderful mini circular stroll for the elderly, the young and the in between! I never had a chance to visit the café but next time I certainly will.'

Tickets are reasonably priced at £9 for adults and over-13s, £7.50 for children aged 4 to 12, and free for under-threes. Cash is preferred.
Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leads, especially around the miniature towns and locomotives.
The 2025 season runs until mid-October, offering plenty of time to plan a visit, just be sure not to arrive outside its opening days.
For children who love trains and adults who enjoy a whimsical escape, the Perthshire Garden Railway is a magical day out.

Midlothian woman transforms mansion into a magical family escape

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A Midlothian woman has transformed a section of a neglected mansion into a magical workshop for all ages. Gayanne Potter and her family spent months turning the neglected wing of Vogrie House into a mystical venue after they were offered it by Midlothian Council. She said: "I wanted to create a space that felt magical and enchanting, somewhere families could enjoy a slower pace for a while and reconnect through different imaginative activities. Take time away from screens, just be swept up in the wonder we've created in the different rooms. "Magic has no age limit and The Bubbling Toad doesn't either, it's for everyone.' The wing they painstakingly restored is now home to The Bubbling Toad, an experience like no other where children and adults alike can embrace their magical side as they make potions, create magical crafts in their various workshops and dive into the world of fantasy by following hidden trails in the Fairy Hollow. (Image: Supplied) Located in Vogrie Country Park, this handcrafted space also features a 'starlit' library and an 'everchanging' escape room that will be changed every few months. Having opened on Friday, June 6, their first escape room is Victorian themed. However, during specific holidays, it will be modified to fit the occasion. At Christmas, for example, The Bubbling Toad team will turn their Fairy Hollow into an Elf's Workshop while the escape room becomes Santa's Grotto. And to top it all off, The Bubbling Toad will also be bookable for parties where children can either let their imagination run free in the Fairy Hollow or let their creativity flow with an exclusive potion making party. Experiences start from just £8 for children's sessions, with adult experiences and crafting classes starting from £18. More information on The Bubbling Toad can be found here.

Meghan shares heartfelt video of Lilibet's fourth birthday at Disneyland

The family shared a magical trip to Disneyland for Princess Lilbet's celebrations. Meghan Markle has shared a heartfelt video of the Sussex family as they celebrated Princess Lilibet's fourth birthday at Disneyland Florida. The Duchess of Sussex's Instagram showed the family enjoying rides at the California attraction, which has drawn heart-wrenching parallels with Harry's childhood trip to Florida's Walt Disney World with Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1993. The video shows an adorable clip of Archie, six, and Lili meeting Princess Elsa, from the Disney film Frozen. Meghan sported a Minnie Mouse hat in some of the snaps featured in the post, while another image shows a two-tier Little Mermaid-themed birthday cake for Lili. ‌ Meghan stated in the video's caption: 'Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!' ‌ The intimate family footage was reminiscent of photos taken of the duke when he was eight and his mother Diana took him and William to Walt Disney World. The royal siblings were photographed sitting at the front of a log on the Splash Mountain ride, with adults from their mother's entourage behind them and Diana seated at the back. Meghan's post follows a number of family snaps over recent days to mark Lili's fourth birthday, which is June 4. In one, she posted a comedic throwback video of herself twerking in a bid to bring on labour while pregnant with the princess, while another post featured a black and white snap of herself holding her daughter close. ‌ In another post, she described how Lili's relationshi p with Harry was 'the sweetest bond to watch unfold'. She shared two photos of the princess with her father the duke, adding: 'Daddy's little girl and favorite adventurer. Happy birthday Lili!' The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's youngest child was born on June 4 2021 and was named Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, after her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II. ‌ Meghan and Harry have previously been keen to keep their kids away from the public eye, and usually don't show the little ones' faces on social media. In this newest post, their children are viewed from the back, emphasising the couples' wishes to protect their children from growing up in the spotlight. ‌ In one picture, Harry is seen on a kids' ride with Lilibet, and although she is facing the camera, her face is covered with a pink love heart emoji. A source close to the couple revealed to People last year that Harry is especially keen to stop Lili and Archie from being thrust into the public eye. The friend explained: "Harry has been reluctant to show his children publicly, not out of a desire to hide them but to protect their privacy and safety from potential threats." Will there be a series four of Ginny and Georgia after huge plot twist finale

Series three of Ginny and Georgia left on a huge cliff-hanger- so will there be a series four? The third series of hit Netflix show Ginny and Georgia dropped onto the streaming platform on Thursday, June 5, and super fans have already finished binging all 10 episodes. But, after a cliff-hanger ending (spoilers ahead) viewers are on the edge of their seats, wondering if a fourth series has been confirmed. Series three of Sarah Lampert's comedy-drama, which focuses on teen Ginny and her 30-year-old mum Georgia, picked up after the jaw-dropping events of the series two finale, in which Georgia was arrested for the murder of Tom Fuller at her wedding to Wellsbury mayor Paul Randolph. Georgia's son Austin, who was playing hide-and-seek and hiding in the wardrobe of Tom's room, had witnessed the act as Georgia smothered Tom with a pillow. The third season primarily focuses on the murder trial, with Georgia facing a possible prison sentence. In a shocking turn of events, Austin frames his father, Gil, for the murder he knows was committed by his mum. But aside from this twisted crime and resulting trial, a huge plot twist that came at the end of the series was that both Ginny and Georgia discover that they are pregnant, after Georgia had faked a pregnancy earlier in series three. And what's more, we don't know the identity of the father of Georgia's baby. So, will fans be blessed with another series of this twist-after-twist comedy-drama? Luckily, the show was renewed for a fourth series at the same time its third series was confirmed, back in 2023. But viewers will have to wait until then to find out the aftermath of Ginny and Georgia's fast-paced series three finale. And its fourth series is planned to be its last ever. Showrunner Debra J. Fisher revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that the Netflix show was always planned to run for four series, and that they had already mapped out plans for Ginny and Georgia's final episode. The showrunner told the publication: "When Sarah [Lampert] and I pitched the show to Netflix, we did pitch four seasons, so we know what we want the end game to be. 'We know what we want the last episode to be.' Although the fourth series of the beloved show is yet to receive a confirmed release date, fans can expect to wait around two years, as has been the norm for the previous series. Ginny and Georgia series one came out in 2021, series two in 2023, and series three in 2025. And fans are devastated to have to wait, expressing their eagerness for series four on social media. One fan said on X: "Just finished season 3 of Ginny and Georgia. An amazing season, I need season 4 on my desk tomorrow!" Another user wrote: "Just got done with season 3 and Georgia is still mother, Joe is still hot af, Paul DILF card got revoked, not any cringe worthy moments from Ginny, and Ellen still being Georgia best friend throughout every thing with that said give me season 4".
