Midlothian woman transforms mansion into a magical family escape
A Midlothian woman has transformed a section of a neglected mansion into a magical workshop for all ages.
Gayanne Potter and her family spent months turning the neglected wing of Vogrie House into a mystical venue after they were offered it by Midlothian Council.
She said: "I wanted to create a space that felt magical and enchanting, somewhere families could enjoy a slower pace for a while and reconnect through different imaginative activities. Take time away from screens, just be swept up in the wonder we've created in the different rooms.
"Magic has no age limit and The Bubbling Toad doesn't either, it's for everyone.'
The wing they painstakingly restored is now home to The Bubbling Toad, an experience like no other where children and adults alike can embrace their magical side as they make potions, create magical crafts in their various workshops and dive into the world of fantasy by following hidden trails in the Fairy Hollow.

Located in Vogrie Country Park, this handcrafted space also features a 'starlit' library and an 'everchanging' escape room that will be changed every few months.
Having opened on Friday, June 6, their first escape room is Victorian themed. However, during specific holidays, it will be modified to fit the occasion. At Christmas, for example, The Bubbling Toad team will turn their Fairy Hollow into an Elf's Workshop while the escape room becomes Santa's Grotto.
And to top it all off, The Bubbling Toad will also be bookable for parties where children can either let their imagination run free in the Fairy Hollow or let their creativity flow with an exclusive potion making party.
Experiences start from just £8 for children's sessions, with adult experiences and crafting classes starting from £18.

Initial costs for the repair project were earmarked at £20million, but this soon rose and continued until a reported final figure in the region of £27.5million was reached before allowing guests back into the castle. Channel 4 is set to broadcast a documentary, narrated by Norwich's own Stephen Fry, following the restoration project, titled 'The Castle, Rebuilding History'. The film is set to air on Channel 4 on Sunday (August 24) at 7:30 pm. Best-selling author and historian Alice Loxton has visited the castle since its grand reopening on August 4, declaring it "one of England's greatest castles," in a video posted to her TikTok account, which has more than 880,000 followers. "My favourite part of this is that they have recreated lots of the rooms as if it were the year 1121," she explained to viewers. "So, this gives you an amazing impression of what it was like to visit a royal palace in the 12th century. And, though we might often think about the medieval world as a place of bare stone walls and not a very colourful place, what you're really struck by when you wander around these rooms is that it's vividly coloured, with all sorts of ornate patterns and decoration." There is free admission available for Norfolk Museums Pass holders while visiting adults (age 19 plus) are charged £15.30 if booking online in advance and £17 on the day. There is a family adult discount price, when purchased with a child ticket, setting customers back £13.95 online in advance and £15.50 on the day. Likewise, Child (age 4-18) tickets are £13.05 in advance and £14.50 on the day, while children aged four or younger can enter free.

Perthshire resort unveils revamped 2025 Christmas programme
A Perthshire resort has announced details of its revamped Christmas programme for 2025. Crieff Hydro will offer several festive activities from Sunday November 30 until Sunday January 4. Included in the activities is the return of the 200sqm ice skating rink. The hotel will also host its own Santa's Grotto in the Ferntower Suite from Thursday December 11 until Tuesday December 23. Relaxed grotto sessions for families that require a quieter visitor experience have also been introduced. These will take place at 10am on Thursday 11 and Saturday December 13, and 2pm on Sunday December 14. The popular pantomime also makes a return for 2025, with The Experiences Group bringing its own spin on Sleeping Beauty to life. Associate director Richard Leckie said: 'In the run-up to the festive season, the hotel comes alive with excitement. We're thrilled to share that spirit with our guests. 'Families come back time and time again to enjoy the skating, the pantomime, and of course, a visit to see Santa. It's a joy to be part of those memories. 'We can't wait to welcome families, both new and returning, to Highland Perthshire to make some special festive memories with us this year.' The new experience comes after the resort experienced several negative online reviews over last year's offering. Tickets for Christmas at Crieff Hydro can be purchased on itison via the Crieff Hydro website, with ice skating tickets starting from £5 per person.

In the show, he made the shock revelation that he was downing "20 shots a night" and drinking to get "blackout drunk" ahead of their split last year. He said: "The reason for our ending the relationship was alcohol." He added: "I couldn't train, box, lift weights, that was all gone. "My right hand was messed up, I was in dire pain, it's just what happens over years of impact on the hand. "I had lost my entire identity, lost my life."
