On Tommy's new BBC doc - The Good, The Bad, The Fury - the father and son duo clashed.
John insisted a festive family reunion with his two-year-old daughter would interfere with Tommy's mindset ahead of the fight.
In scenes aired on episode two, John said: "The thing we don't want is distractions. People coming. We don't want it.
"Because when you're here and you're talking to people you're not resting. You want to be training eat, drink, sleep, train, repeat.
"It's six weeks of hell but you've got another four to six weeks to go and to do the other stuff, haven't you?
"All that's out there is the pub, alcohol, s*** food and s*** company."
Tommy replied: "That's all I ever do anyway. I don't do nothing else my whole life. Train."
John said: "I don't know, Tom. You do enjoy yourself, don't you?,"
"Not really..." Tommy replied.
John said: "If you can't sacrifice six weeks of your time without your children, all that s*** in the world outside. What we doing here?"
Tommy was not happy with the decision and said 20 minutes with his daughter on Christmas Day would not change his boxing mentality.
The former Love Island star said: "I can't see, on Christmas Day, me picking the baby, me saying 'Merry Christmas', I can't see that going to lead me to win a fight or not.
"You're not doing that this time," but John demanded.
Tommy replied: "But you've got to be happy."
John insisted that sacrifices needed to be made in order to win big.
Tommy continued: "Yeah, but you just got to go and hug the baby for five minutes. There's no harm in that."
His dad hit back "You go back, you have your Christmas, you hold the baby, all of a sudden you get an L on your record for that day.
"You will never look at them in the same light again, family or not family because you'll resent them."
Tommy said: "20 minutes out of my day on Christmas," to which John added: "The greats don't do it."
Speaking to the camera, Tommy explained why his father had such a staunch view on the matter, saying: "My dad doesn't understand the modern world.
"And obviously he's just an old school fella and the way the world is today, you know, even I find it hard to live in the world sometimes today, with the amount of bull**** that's going on."
Earlier today The Sun revealed the real reason for Molly-Mae's absence from Tommy's BBC show premiere has been revealed.
The social media influencer was missing from the launch of his brand new reality TV series which raised eyebrows despite the pair being back together and claiming to be at "they're happiest".
Molly also failed to mark the event on social media and shared no posts to support Tommy and his show.
MISSING MOLLY
But The Sun understands that Molly skipped the event as she was keen to not "overshadow" the launch of Tommy's programme and let him have his own time in the spotlight following their up and down 12 months.
A source told The Sun: "Molly is keen to keep a low profile at the moment.
"She is obviously back with Tommy but it's his night and doesn't want to overshadow it.
"It's been a funny time for Molly - she's very thick skinned but she's had a lot to deal with and isn't used to backlash."
A representative for Molly told The Sun that she was "away working" and very busy which caused her to miss the event.
Current social media snaps show Molly enjoying a sunny break away with her best pal, Tayla-Blue.
The best friend duo could be seen enjoying a relaxing evening by the beach with their children yesterday evening in snaps shared to Tayla's social media feed.
One photo showed Molly and her daughter Bambi attempting to take a splash in the sea.
Whilst other snaps showed Bambi looking stylish on the beach.
For Tommy, he was joined by his parents in Manchester for a screening of BBC show The Good. The Bad. The Fury, which sees him rehash details of their recent split, as well as make a series of shock revelations about it.
In the show, he made the shock revelation that he was downing "20 shots a night" and drinking to get "blackout drunk" ahead of their split last year.
He said: "The reason for our ending the relationship was alcohol."
He added: "I couldn't train, box, lift weights, that was all gone.
"My right hand was messed up, I was in dire pain, it's just what happens over years of impact on the hand.
"I had lost my entire identity, lost my life."

Kristian Nairn's health battles as he quits Strictly from back condition to 'nearly dying'
Game of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn admitted that taking part in Strictly Come Dancing would have been a "huge challenge physically" just days before he quit the hit BBC show Game of Thrones star Kristian Nairn has pulled out of this year's Strictly Come Dancing"due to unexpected medical reasons". The 49-year-old says he was 'truly looking forward' to taking part in the competition. The actor, best known for his role as Hodor, now says he hopes to be 'back on his feet very soon'. He had previously said taking part in the show would be a 'huge challenge for me physically'. It comes after the star has been open with a number of health issues he has faced over the years. Kristian claimed that his six seasons on Game of Thrones left him with a back problem. Hodor would often be seen on screen carrying disabled Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) around on his back. He says he was left with a pelvic tilt that required six months of physiotherapy to rectify. Speaking on the Inside of You podcast with Michael Rosenbaum, Kristian explained: 'I do have a back problem, but that came from working on 'Game Of Thrones. All that carrying…' He explained that Isaac grew too big to carry as the series progressed. By season six he says they decided to replace his co-star with 'a small lady named Samantha'. Kristian was eventually replaced by a body-double - a 7ft-tall wrestler named Brian. When asked if had considered taking legal action against HBO, he replied: 'It's not something I want to go down, the show's done so much for me. "That's such an American point of view! We don't sue people back home for that." Before finding fame on Game of Thrones, Kristian worked as a house music DJ and admits he was addicted to cocaine. He admits he once 'hoofed half a kilo' up his nose in one night. Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, he said: 'Until the age of 28 I've never taken drugs. I've never even smoked a spliff, never had the inclination. But cocaine is different. I love cocaine. Whether or not I like it is a different question: it gives me mad heart palpitations and white-knuckle anxiety.' He admits his drug taking meant he 'nearly died' after moving from cocaine to ketamine. He says he stumbled onto the drug 'by accident' after taking a 'white powder' at a party. He added: 'I did the thing that most cokeheads do at some point. I moved on to ketamine. It wasn't intentional — purely accidental, in fact. I was searching through the house for something — anything — to snort when I found a bag of white powder. As cocaine and ketamine look identical, I worked my way through it and very nearly died.' Kristian revealed he 'lay in bed' with his heart racing and 'gasping for breath'. When he finally came around hours later he says he found three handwritten letters apologising and saying it would have been an accident if he died. Kristian was announced as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing on Friday, August 15. However BBC bosses will now announce his replacement on The One Show at 7pm this evening. Announcing his exit from the show, he said: 'With a heavy heart, I have to step back from this season of Strictly Come Dancing due to unexpected medical reasons. 'I was truly looking forward to the journey, and I'm deeply sorry to disappoint anyone who was looking forward to seeing me on the dance floor. Thank you all for your support, and I will be back on my feet very soon, in every sense. Love to all, Kristian."

The BBC have announced that their beloved ballroom dance competition will start with the annual pre-recorded launch show at Elstree Studios on September 27. During the episode 15 celebrities will be paired up with their professional dance partners to be in with a chance of winning the prestigious glitter ball trophy. This year, fans of the show have something extra to look forward to as the BBC have treated audiences to an early Christmas present. The Strictly Come Dancing live final is set to air on Saturday, December 20 - a mere five days before Christmas Day, what an early gift indeed for fans of the show. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter This is later than the last three seasons which finished the week earlier, so fans can not only look forward to the lead up to the holidays but also to find out if their fave pair has won the competition. Until then, viewers can tune in every weekend from the launch on BBC One or catch up on BBC iPlayer. The week after the launch night, on September 27, the main series of Saturday live shows will kick off. In line with tradition, the first live show won't see a celebrity and their dance partner leaving the contest, and the first pre-recorded Sunday results show will be broadcast on Sunday, 5 October. The first results show will tally up each routine's points from weeks one and two, as determined by judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke, along with the viewers' votes. The duo with the fewest votes will bid farewell to Strictly Come Dancing. The BBC has also confirmed that the show will make its much-anticipated return to the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom on Saturday, 22 November, before heading back to Elstree on Saturday, 29 November. The show recently unveiled the 15 celebrities who will be vying for the coveted Glitterball trophy. This year's celebrity contestants for Strictly Come Dancing include a rugby player, a drag queen, a social media influencer and a Game of Thrones actor. Thank you all for your support, and I will be back on my feet very soon, in every sense. Love to all, Kristian." A new celebrity will be joining Strictly Come Dancing in Kristian's place.
