A 24-year-old Kansas man has been charged after he allegedly grabbed a flight attendant and dragged her up the aisle of a Chicago-bound flight, leaving from Bradley International Airport in Hartford, Connecticut. The Department of Justice said Julius Jordan Priester was arrested and charged with assaulting the cabin crew member.
The incident took place on Tuesday (May 27) when the American Airlines flight was over 30 minutes into the journey, according to a report in the New York Pos t. United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut David Sullivan said Priester stood up, started taking off his shirt and ran to the back of the plane yelling, "Help me".
He added that Priester then grabbed a flight attendant, who was seated, and shouted, 'You're coming with me,' and forcefully brought the victim to the ground.
As the kerfuffle ensued, several passengers intervened and managed to subdue Priester, bringing him back to his seat in the process. Although he continued acting erratically and making incoherent statements, the authorities added.
Priester arrested
The plane was diverted back to Bradley after the captain declared an emergency. As the plane safely touched down, Connecticut State Police arrived onboard and arrested Priester, who was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
The condition of the flight attendant, whose identity has not been disclosed, remains unknown. Meanwhile, American Airlines issued a statement, lauding the flight crew for their reaction to the incident.
'We do not tolerate violence, and we thank our team members for their professionalism and our customers for their assistance,' the statement said.
Prosecutors revealed that Priester already has a criminal history in Kansas, including an aggravated assault charge. Priester remains in police custody with a court hearing lined up. The charges of interfering with flight crew members and attendants carries a maximum term of 20 years of imprisonment.

FBI reacts to Colorado attacker Mohamed Sabry Soliman not being charged with terror: 'We are not Federal Bureau of Word Games'

The Department of Justice charged Colorado attacker Mohamed Sabru Soliman with hate crime and no counts related to terrorism, while FBI director Kash Patel called the Boulder attack a targeted terrorism against the Jewish community. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now FBI deputy director Dan Bongino clarified that the FBI will investigate the attack as a targeted terror. Explaining the difference between the DoJ and the FBI, Bongino said everyone is innocent until proven guilty in the justice system. "But we are the Federal Bureau of Investigation. We are not the Federal Bureau of Word Games," Bongino said. "When the evidence passed to our FBI leadership team, from an active crime scene, includes clearly ideologically-motivated statements, video, multiple witness accounts, Molotov cocktails, and large gatherings of like-minded people, we will INVESTIGATE those incidents as targeted acts of terror," Dan said. Why Mohamed Sabry Soliman was not charged with terror To charge someone with terror, the prosecutor would have to prove at trial that the person is either associated with, or inspired by designated foreign terrorist organisations. Without this, it is difficult for the Justice Department to bring terrorism charges. Soliman was not a known offender, and no ties to any organization were found in the preliminary investigation. An Egyptian illegally staying in the US after his visa expired in March this year, Soliman said he threw only two Molotov cocktails as he got scared, as he had never hurt anyone before. He told the law enforcement that he had been planning the attack for the last year but waited for his daughter to graduate. He wanted to kill all Zionists and knew about the Jewish group in Colorado that assembled every Sunday, demanding the release of the Israelis imprisoned in Gaza. Though there was no fatality as the fire was immediately put out, 12 people were injured. Soliman planned on dying in the attack and he mentioned several times to the law enforcement officers that he wanted to be dead.

Maryland woman slams boy's head into plane window, hits him with bottle for calling her ‘Miss Piggy'

A Maryland woman is facing domestic child abuse charges after allegedly slamming a boy's head into a plane window and hitting him with a water bottle, all because he mocked her weight and called her 'Miss Piggy.' Kristy Crampton, 46, was arrested after the Memorial Day flight from Orlando to Hagerstown, Maryland. According to an arrest report obtained by CBS News, the woman was returning from a trip to Disney World with the boy. Authorities have not disclosed the nature of their relationship. Crampton told police the boy had been disrespectful during an argument and called her 'fat' and 'Miss Piggy.' She said she confiscated his phone, prompting him to push her arm off the armrest and accuse her of taking up too much space. Enraged, she allegedly 'smacked him with her fist and then a water bottle… and 'slammed' his head into the airplane window,' the report said. Witnesses on the flight said it wasn't discipline, it was abuse. One passenger told police that the woman 'was not correcting the child, she was abusing him, whipping the s**t out of the kid.' Crampton was taken into custody at the airport and released on a $10,000 bond. She has now been charged with second-degree child abuse, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has recorded 637 reports of unruly passenger behavior so far this year. While the number peaked in 2021 with nearly 6,000 incidents, the agency reported 1.6 incidents per 10,000 flights last week. In 2023, passengers were fined a total of $7.5 million for disruptive behavior. Over Memorial Day weekend, in a separate incident, a man experiencing a mental health crisis attempted to open the emergency exit on a Houston-bound flight, forcing the plane to divert to Seattle. Last year, another passenger erupted on a Southwest Airlines flight after a baby wouldn't stop crying, shouting, 'Shut that baby up,' shocking other passengers.
