US Man Charged For Assaulting American Airlines Flight Attendant In Mid-Air Meltdown
A 24-year-old Kansas man has been charged after he allegedly grabbed a flight attendant and dragged her up the aisle of a Chicago-bound flight, leaving from Bradley International Airport in Hartford, Connecticut. The Department of Justice said Julius Jordan Priester was arrested and charged with assaulting the cabin crew member.
The incident took place on Tuesday (May 27) when the American Airlines flight was over 30 minutes into the journey, according to a report in the New York Pos t. United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut David Sullivan said Priester stood up, started taking off his shirt and ran to the back of the plane yelling, "Help me".
He added that Priester then grabbed a flight attendant, who was seated, and shouted, 'You're coming with me,' and forcefully brought the victim to the ground.
As the kerfuffle ensued, several passengers intervened and managed to subdue Priester, bringing him back to his seat in the process. Although he continued acting erratically and making incoherent statements, the authorities added.
Priester arrested
The plane was diverted back to Bradley after the captain declared an emergency. As the plane safely touched down, Connecticut State Police arrived onboard and arrested Priester, who was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
The condition of the flight attendant, whose identity has not been disclosed, remains unknown. Meanwhile, American Airlines issued a statement, lauding the flight crew for their reaction to the incident.
'We do not tolerate violence, and we thank our team members for their professionalism and our customers for their assistance,' the statement said.
Prosecutors revealed that Priester already has a criminal history in Kansas, including an aggravated assault charge. Priester remains in police custody with a court hearing lined up. The charges of interfering with flight crew members and attendants carries a maximum term of 20 years of imprisonment.

A Maryland woman is facing domestic child abuse charges after allegedly slamming a boy's head into a plane window and hitting him with a water bottle, all because he mocked her weight and called her 'Miss Piggy.' Kristy Crampton, 46, was arrested after the Memorial Day flight from Orlando to Hagerstown, Maryland. According to an arrest report obtained by CBS News, the woman was returning from a trip to Disney World with the boy. Authorities have not disclosed the nature of their relationship. Crampton told police the boy had been disrespectful during an argument and called her 'fat' and 'Miss Piggy.' She said she confiscated his phone, prompting him to push her arm off the armrest and accuse her of taking up too much space. Abducted child rescued within 24 hours in Navi Mumbai; woman held
Thane: Police have rescued a three-month-old girl within 24 hours of her abduction from outside the Panvel railway station in Maharashtra's Navi Mumbai township and arrested a woman in this connection, an official said on Sunday. The child was with her mother when an unidentified person abducted her outside the railway station between 3pm and 3:30pm on Friday, Panvel City police station's senior inspector Nitin Thackeray said. After getting information about the incident, five police teams were formed to trace the infant and apprehend the police analysed CCTV footage of the area near Panvel station and got to know that a woman carrying the baby boarded a Pune-bound train, the official said. Search teams were promptly sent to Karjat, Lonavla, Daund and other places in the police found the woman returned to Panvel from police spotted the woman near Kalamboli fire station and apprehended her on Saturday. The baby was rescued and reunited with her mother, the official said. The accused woman, identified as Roshni Vinod Vageshree, 35, resident of a slum opposite the Panvel railway station, was arrested and booked under relevant legal provisions, the official added.
