Sky announces surprise price alert and the exact date when it may affect you
Sky's NOW platform will soon cost more each month.
All of the UK's biggest Internet Service Providers (ISPs) announced price hikes earlier this year with customers facing higher costs from April. S uppliers hiking costs included Sky, with this popular service provider adding around 6 per cent to monthly bills. Now, in an update that might surprise some customers, Sky has announced another new cost increase.
This time it's affecting the firm's NOW platform, with those accessing the web via this ISP facing a £3 per bill rise.
The change will come into force from July 4, 2025 with anyone who has signed up to plans such as Brilliant Broadband, Fab Fibre and Super Fibre being affected.
'We understand that price increases are never welcome," a NOW spokesperson said.
"However, to continue improving and investing in our services, we need to adjust our pricing. Starting 4th July, the monthly cost of our NOW legacy Broadband products, including Fab Fibre, Super Fibre, and Brilliant Broadband plans, will increase by £3 each.'
Although the thought of paying more won't please many, NOW is offering a lifeline.
The ISP says it is notifying customers and giving them at least 31 days' notice about the changes.
Unlike many other providers that lock users into contracts, NOW users are being allowed to leave penalty-free within 31 days of being notified of a price increase.
So, if you get an email from NOW in the coming weeks and don't want to pay the extra £3 fees, you can go online shopping and find another without the worry of early exit fees.
So why are prices going up?
NOW says that these price changes are reflective of the investments it has made to improve its products and services.
The service also says there are increasing cost pressures it continues to face across the board – such as wholesale cost and investment to improve its service.
Even if you aren't with NOW, it's always a good idea to shop around and see what offers are available. Along with checking out the main providers like BT, Virgin and Sky, there are plenty of smaller alternative networks popping up all over the UK that often offer faster speeds at lower prices.

Italy plans to scrap no single buyer rule in Serie A TV rights sale
MILAN, June 10 (Reuters) - Italy plans to remove a ban on Italy's Serie A top flight soccer league selling its domestic broadcast rights to a single buyer, a draft government bill seen by Reuters showed, marking a major overhaul of media rules for live sports events. Italy introduced the "no single buyer rule" to avoid creating a dominant player in the pay-TV sector in 2008, when it approved a law entrusting sport leagues to collectively sell the rights to screen live matches. Broadcasting rights are the main revenue source for Serie A clubs but they lag behind those of other major European national leagues. Under existing contracts expiring in the 2028-29 season, Serie A earns some 900 million euros ($1 billion) annually from sport streaming service DAZN and pay-TV firm Sky (CMCSA.O), opens new tab, with the former screening all of the games and Sky co-broadcasting some of them. That sum is roughly half of the annual domestic broadcasting revenue of England's Premier League, which has a 'no single buyer rule' in place. Germany's Bundesliga, which last year removed its 'no single buyer rule', pockets some 1.1 billion euros annually from domestic broadcasting licences, according to data compiled by UEFA. The Italian government also plans to introduce changes in the way Serie A distributes the TV revenue among clubs, raising to "above 50%" from the current 50% the sum which must be equally split among all clubs, the draft bill showed. SKY'S Ring doorbell rival has just received a bunch of upgrades in a bid to win over more households. Night Vision mode now captures even clearer images, by reducing any bright white glare that could wash out your image, for a sharper and clearer view. It's also more reliable now too, preventing any problems that could previously cause a pink screen. Warning to criminals as new Ring doorbell AI feature makes it even easier to catch you Elsewhere, the update prevents any missed doorbell presses. And the ding dong happens twice as fast. There are new controls for clip recordings as well, which will help the battery. So, from now on you'll be able to adjust the maximum recording length of time your Video Doorbell records for when it detects motion. This ranges from 15 seconds, 30 seconds and 60 seconds.
