Men under 22 can leave Ukraine
The Ukrainian leader announced the change in a post on Telegram on Tuesday, arguing that it would be a 'positive' development that would allow 'many young Ukrainians to maintain ties' with their homeland and potentially return to Ukraine for study.
'I instructed the government as well as the military to work on simplifying the border crossing [procedures] for young Ukrainians,' Zelensky said in a statement, adding that those aged 22 or younger should not face any restrictions.
Kiev introduced the travel ban soon after the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022. At the time, it imposed the martial law and launched a massive mobilization campaign. The Ukrainian authorities still struggled with widespread draft evasion throughout the conflict with Russia.
Last year, Kiev lowered the draft age from 27 to 25 while tightening mobilization rules. The forced conscription campaign has triggered repeated violent clashes between reluctant recruits and draft officers that were often recorded on videos and published on the internet.
Potential recruits were reported hiding from military officers or using various tactics, including bribery, forged documents to escape mobilization. Many men also tried to cross the border and flee abroad illegally, including through traversing rough terrain, often to their doom.
In March 2024, the Ukrainian border guard service reported that more than two dozen men had drowned while swimming across the Tisza River on the country's border with Romania, in an effort to flee the country.
Ukrainian border patrols have also stopped thousands of people trying to flee abroad, going as far as to shoot some of them. Last year, the border guards published photos of officers beating and humiliating dozens of men after they were caught while attempting to cross the border.

Zelensky's previous visit to Washington ended in a heated exchange between the Ukrainian and Trump. Ukraine's backers in the EU are 'in a panic' following the Alaska summit, Russian economic envoy Kirill Dmitriev, who was part of Moscow's delegation, has said. Putin reiterated on Saturday that any settlement of the Ukraine conflict should eliminate its root causes. Moscow insists that for lasting peace to be achieved, Ukraine should renounce its NATO ambitions, demilitarize, and recognize the current realities on the ground.

Woman killed in Ukrainian drone raid – Kursk governor (VIDEO)
A Ukrainian drone attack on Russia's Kursk has killed a 45-year-old woman and left 12 people injured, acting governor Aleksandr Khinshtein has said. In a statement on Friday, Khinshtein said the overnight attack – which he described as 'an inhuman crime by Ukrainian Nazis' – hit an apartment block, which sustained 'serious damage.' He added that a fire had broken out on the four upper floors, which has since been extinguished, and that the blast wave had shattered windows in nearby buildings and a school. According to Khinshtein, the casualties included a 15-year-old. Nine people were hospitalized and three are receiving outpatient treatment, he added. The building's residents have been temporarily relocated to a nearby school, Khinshtein said, noting that authorities will provide them with sleeping accommodation, essential supplies, and food. Experts will assess the extent of damage to the building and whether it can be repaired, he said. Footage circulating on social media showed a large blaze in the yard near the building, with several cars on fire. A fire was also visible on the upper floors of the structure. Later videos from the scene depicted balconies and exterior walls badly damaged, and nearby streets littered with debris from the blast. Officials in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don also reported a Ukrainian drone strikes on apartment buildings, which injured at least 15 people, including two children. Ukraine routinely launches drone attacks deep into Russia, which often target residential buildings and civilian infrastructure. Border areas, including Kursk Region, have been particularly heavily impacted by drone raids and artillery shelling.

Russia made concessions on ‘land swaps' with Ukraine
Russia is now ready to make certain concessions as part of 'land swaps' with Ukraine, US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, has claimed. Trump will be meeting with Ukraine's Vladimir Zelensky and several Western European leaders at the White House on Monday, in a bid to work out a peace deal between Moscow and Kiev. On Friday, Trump held talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, with the presidents expressing cautious optimism that progress was made towards a resolution of the Ukraine conflict. Witkoff told CNN on Sunday that during the Alaska summit, the Russian delegation 'made some concessions at the table with regard to all five of those regions,' apparently referring to Crimea, the Donetsk and the Lugansk People's Republics, and Zaporozhye and Kherson regions – all former Ukrainian territories which became part of Russia after referendums. According to the US official, the Kremlin appears ready to conduct 'land swapping' with Kiev, with the current front line serving as the starting point in at least some areas. Witkoff said that Moscow's demands had undergone a 'significant' shift toward 'moderation.' On Saturday, the New York Times and Fox News, citing anonymous European officials, claimed that Trump endorsed a peace plan that envisages Ukraine ceding the whole of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics to Russia, with Moscow agreeing to cease hostilities along the current front line in Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. The Kremlin has yet to comment on any such conditions. Officially, Moscow continues to insist that Ukraine recognize Crimea, the DPR and LPR as well as and Zaporozhye and Kherson regions as Russian territory in their entirety. In his CNN interview, Witkoff further touted a 'game changing' agreement by Russia to 'robust security guarantees' akin to NATO's Article 5 being provided to Ukraine by the US and unnamed European nations. Explaining Trump's endorsement of a comprehensive peace deal as opposed to a temporary ceasefire, Witkoff said it was due to the significant headway achieved during the Alaska summit.
