City were a class above but need to battle more. A couple of the right signings and we'll be Four chances, four goals. You cannot make the mistakes Wolves made against a City side who physically and technically are much stronger. I expected the defeat but 4-0 is not a fair reflection, and had we taken chances it would have been closer. Need three more signings as lacking depth. Not sure about Wolfe - looked out of his depth. I thought Jhon Arias was lively in the 20 minutes he played. No need to panic One game gone and I'm worried. Our gameplan is to defend deep and hit on the break. But once Manchester City got their first we fell to pieces. City were not at their best but they easily cut us apart when needed. We also lack quality up front. Marshall Munetsi would run through a brick wall for the team, but he's not a forward. Unless Arias or Lopez turn out to be gems quickly, then we will need proven quality in the door ASAP or we're We huffed and puffed but came up short - what you would expect from a newly promoted team. This is our eighth season since promotion, however. The squad has been fatally weakened by the owners, and we simply don't have the quality to compete. A game of open and committed football, with use of the ball key and players driving forward with it. The keep-ball has gone and now City play football. Wonderful to watch. Exciting and energetic. This can only get better and playing out from the back was more comfortable and confident. This team has found their City looking back to their best! A really great display with all the debutants contributing massively. Some early nerves as the back line adjusted, but once they clicked it was a very efficient machine. A great start!Gene: The standout performance of Reijnders, and the surprise starts for Stones and Bobb - at least for me - were worth the watch alone. I saw Reijnders play often over the past few years and knew his quality - a great signing. It will take some time for the team to gel, but a good start. Hopefully the defence can play more effectively this season and avoid too many injuries. Lewis played well - the right-back position needs sorting and I wonder whether he is the answer. A good performance against a mid-table team. We shall see what happens against stiffer A slow and shaky first 30 minutes. Looked a bit ring-rusty for a while. However, they clicked on 34 minutes and never really looked troubled by Wolves. Reijnders looks world class and, considering the players who were out, we look as if we can really challenge for titles again this season.

Sonny Baker celebrates England call-up with Hundred hat-trick
Jos Buttler and Heinrich Klaasen scored half-centuries as the Manchester Originals cruised to a 57-run victory over the Northern Superchargers in the men's Hundred. The Originals were restricted in the early stages as Phil Salt and Ben McKinney both fell cheaply, but Buttler and Rachin Ravindra put on 62 from 35 deliveries before Matthew Potts dismissed Ravindra for 31. Buttler continued to shine alongside Klaasen as the pair put on an unbeaten 69 as they finished not out on 64 and 50 respectively. The Superchargers' chase of 172 got off to a poor start when Josh Tongue struck twice in eight balls to dismiss Zak Crawley and Michael Pepper. They were handed a further blow when Harry Brook was caught by Matty Hurst off Ravindra for just 11. David Miller offered some resistance with a hard-fought 38 before being bowled by Tongue, who took three wickets alongside Sonny Baker - who finished the match with a hat-trick in the week of his England call-up. Earlier in the afternoon the Originals' women's team edged to a five-run win against the Superchargers. England bowler Kate Cross removed Kathryn Bryce and Beth Mooney early but Deandra Dottin hit a brilliant unbeaten 51 from 26 deliveries to help the Originals post 117 for five. Bryce found an early breakthrough when Davina Perrin hit her delivery to Sophie Ecclestone, but the Superchargers gained control with Alice Davidson-Richards and Phoebe Litchfield's partnership. The pair blasted 64 runs from 47 balls before Litchfield was dismissed for 31 by Bryce for her second wicket and Kerr soon took the scalp of Davidson-Richards, who fell for 29. Wickets suddenly fell in quick succession as Annabel Sutherland was caught by Fi Morris off Ecclestone and skipper Hollie Armitage was bowled by Kerr. And some solid bowling at the death saw Ecclestone take Bess Heath's wicket and Bryce caught Cross off Lauren Filer for the Originals to narrowly claim their third win of the competition. Birmingham Phoenix were bowled out for just 76 as they slumped to their fourth defeat from five games in the women's competition with an 88-run thrashing at the hands of London Spirit. The defending champions struggled in the opening stages when Georgia Redmayne was dismissed early and Emily Arlott bowled both Cordelia Griffith and Charli Knott. Kira Chathli underpinned the innings with a fantastic 69-runs from 35 balls, but her effort was ended after edging Ellyse Perry behind. Grace Harris picked up where Chathli left off with a quickfire 34 before being trapped lbw by Arlott for her third wicket as the Spirit closed on 164 for six. Georgia Voll fell early in the Phoenix's chase and Emma Lamb enjoyed a bright start before being run out for 23, the highest score of their innings.

Newcastle seal deal for Jacob Ramsey
Newcastle United have completed the signing of Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey. The 24-year-old has signed a long-term contract with the Magpies, who are understood to have paid an initial £39m for his services, with a further £4m due in add-ons. The Villa academy graduate, who made 167 appearances for the club, 10 of them in last season's Champions League, is head coach Eddie Howe's fourth acquisition of a difficult summer. Ramsey said: "I'm delighted to be here. It's been a mad two or three days, but I'm really happy to be here and I can't wait to get started. "This is a big move for me, but as soon as I knew the gaffer was interested and really liked me, it didn't take much time to decide. His track record of developing players, especially those who have gone on to become internationals here, speaks for itself. "It was always a tough game playing for Villa against Newcastle - the team is full of energy, so athletic and the fans are so passionate. I feel my game will suit that and I'm excited to be on the other end of it now." The Magpies launched their Premier League campaign with a 0-0 draw at Villa on Saturday and Ramsey will join the squad on the training pitch as they begin preparations for champions Liverpool's visit to Tyneside a week on Monday. Howe said: "Jacob is another fantastic addition to our squad. His qualities will bring us something different on the pitch and he fits the profile of being young and hungry to develop, but also with a wealth of Premier League football under his belt. "Jacob offers versatility and his directness in attack has proven to be a real threat at this level in recent seasons. He performed very well in the Champions League last season too and we believe he'll be a major asset for us." Ramsey was part of England's European Under-21 Championship-winning squad in 2023 alongside new team-mate Anthony Gordon. He joins Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale and Malick Thiaw in heading for St James' this summer, although much of the focus has been on the future of wantaway striker Alexander Isak, who was not involved at Villa Park.
