Apple iOS 26: From realtime translations to Games app, 10 must-try features

A few hours after Apple unveiled iOS 26 at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2025, the tech giant started rolling out the first developer version of its operating system.
The newest iOS version not only brings a ton of new features, but also gets a fresh UI redesign, which Apple calls 'Liquid Glass'. Here are some of the best features coming to the iPhone with iOS 26.
Starting with the biggest visual change, iOS 26 introduces a new design language called 'Liquid Glass'. Inspired by the translucent interface from visionOS, Apple has changed the look of things like menus, options and notifications, Control Center and more.
To match the new appearance, the tech giant has also updated the look and feel of first-party apps like Messages, Phone and Camera. Also, user interface elements like toolbars and tabs are getting a visual overhaul. Instead of drop-down lists, iOS 26 now features rounded menus, which Apple says are less distracting.
With iOS 26, Apple has also changed the way the lock screen and homescreen look. The lockscreen now has a redesigned time and date widget with a Liquid Glass interface, and there's a new dynamic widget that changes the lock size according to the wallpaper. What's more, users can also create spatial scenes that offer depth and realism when they move their phone. As for the homescreen, Apple is changing the way app icons look. With iOS 26, you now have the option to make app icons translucent.
For years, the camera app on iOS has mostly stayed the same. However, with the latest iOS version, Apple has spiced up things.
Instead of the familiar and cluttered rows of modes just above the shutter button, Apple has moved it to the bottom of the screen. The update also hides the various options that appear on the screen, neatly hiding them in a menu that can be accessed by simply swiping up from the mode you are in.
Powered by Apple Intelligence, iOS 26 is getting a new Live Translation feature, which, as the name suggests, can automatically translate messages in your preferred language in real time. The Apple Intelligence-powered feature is also making its way to other first-party apps like Phone and FaceTime.
Alongside real-time translation, the Phone app is also getting a new feature that lets you summarise your voice calls. These AI-generated voicemail summaries give you an overview of what you talked about and are visible on the main screen. Apple has also introduced a new unified layout that merges Favourites, Recents and Voicemails on the same page.
Apple Maps is also getting a bunch of upgrades. For example, the navigation app will now remember your preferred locations and travel paths. Also, if an alternate route is available, Apple Maps will show a notification when driving.
Your iPhone will also be able to log your visited locations. This information is end-to-end encrypted and can be easily removed with a swipe.
iPhones running iOS 26 will also get a new Games app that acts as a central hub for all available games and gives you quick access to Apple Arcade titles. You also get a dedicated section for multiplayer games and leaderboards.
Apple introduced Visual Intelligence with iOS 18, but the feature was limited to the camera viewfinder. But with iOS 26, the enhanced functionality can also give you information about what's on your screen.
However, the feature is more of a screenshot tool, as you will have to capture an image before getting more information about it. Another nifty addition is that Visual Intelligence can now scan an image and ask if you want to add details about an event to the Calendar app.
If you are someone who often uses emojis, there's some good news for you. With iOS 26, iPhone users will be able to mix two emojis using Genmoji in the keyboard itself. Alternatively, you can also use the Image Playground app to generate new emojis and mix and match them to your liking. Talking of Image Playground, Apple says users can now ask ChatGPT to generate images in various styles like Ghibli, lo-fi and more.
Apple is also bringing three of the biggest additions introduced with iOS 26 to CarPlay. These include widgets, live activities and tapback response.
Similar to iMessage, users can also choose to pin their favourite conversations. Also, the incoming call UI will no longer take over the entire screen, but instead it will be positioned at the bottom of the screen.
Anyone using an iPhone 11 or later can install iOS 26 on their device. However, Apple Intelligence features are only available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all models in the iPhone 16 series, including the recently launched iPhone 16e.
To install iOS 26 on your phone, head over to 'developer.apple.com' and log in with your user ID. Now, enable Developer Mode by going to Settings> Privacy and Security.
Once done, open Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and choose 'iOS 26 Developer Beta'. Here, tap on the 'Download and Install' button and follow the on-screen instructions.
Your iPhone needs to be running iOS 18.5 to get the iOS 26 Developer Beta. Also, make sure you have backed up your important data and that there is at least 15GB of free space.
Note: Since iOS 26 is currently not stable, you might experience some bugs and issues here and there, so make sure you refrain from install iOS 26 on your primary device.

July is going to be a busy month for smartphone launches in India. From mid-range devices to premium flagships, at least eight new smartphones are expected to launch in July — some already confirmed, others heavily rumoured. Either way, it's clear that brands aren't planning to take a break anytime soon. Also, this isn't just about one brand or one segment. We're talking phones ranging from around Rs 20,000 all the way up to the ultra-premium Rs 2 lakh you're in the market for an affordable upgrade or a top-tier foldable, there's something on the way for everyone. And so, if you're planning to buy a new phone, you might want to hold off just a little longer. Here's a look at all the big upcoming launches expected this July. Let's dive Phone (3)After a two-year gap, Nothing is finally ready with its next flagship — the Phone (3), officially launching worldwide on July 1. This will be the company's first high-end device since the Phone (2) came out in 2023. While Nothing has been busy with its more affordable Phone (3a) and CMF lineups, the Phone (3) is expected to mark a return to the premium space. Carl Pei has already hinted that the Phone (3) won't come cheap, with a possible price of around 800 Pounds (roughly Rs 93,000). However, if past launches are any indication, Indian pricing should be more competitive. Expect the starting price of the phone to be around Rs 70, terms of design, an early render shared via Max Jambor on X (formerly Twitter), shows a departure from the usual Glyph Interface lighting — it might be gone altogether — though the transparent back could remain. The phone is said to feature a 6.77-inch AMOLED display with 3,000 nits peak brightness, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, and a triple rear camera setup, including a 50-megapixel primary sensor along with a 32-megapixel front camera for selfies and video X Fold 5 and X200 FEVivo is rumoured to launch two new smartphones in India on July 10 — the X Fold 5 and X200 FE. While there's no official confirmation yet, both phones have shown up in leaks and certification listings, suggesting an announcement is just around the corner. In fact, the X Fold 5 has been officially confirmed to launch in China on June Vivo X200 FE is expected to be a rebranded version of the S30 Pro Mini, which recently launched in China. It is expected to feature a 6.31-inch OLED display, 120Hz refresh rate, and possibly a MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ or 9400e chipset. The phone may also feature a 50-megapixel Sony IMX921 main camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x zoom, and a 50-megapixel front camera. Other expected features include a 6,500mAh battery, 90W fast charging, and an IP69 Vivo X Fold 5, on the other hand, is Vivo's answer to Samsung's premium foldables. It's said to pack an 8.03-inch inner AMOLED screen, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, and a 6,000mAh battery. Vivo might also lower the price this time around, making it one of the more tempting foldables in the ultra-premium space. Interestingly, Vivo has also teased that the upcoming flagship foldable will feature compatibility with a range of Apple devices and services, including the Apple Watch and Nord 5 and Nord CE 5OnePlus is likely to unveil the Nord 5 and Nord CE 5 in India soon, with July 8 being the rumoured date. While the company hasn't officially confirmed anything yet, tipster Yogesh Brar previously mentioned the date on X, though the post has since been deleted. Yes, this is the same date which is also rumoured to be the India launch date for Vivo's upcoming devices, mentioned above. Nevertheless, there's no official word yet, but most likely, July is the month when we expect Samsung to unveil its three foldables at its Galaxy Unpacked event — possibly alongside a teaser for the triple-fold Galaxy G with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, this one's expected to be sleeker and lighter than ever before. While the design changes are likely to be subtle, Samsung could be focusing on making this the thinnest Fold yet. Rumours suggest the phone could be as slim as 3.9mm when unfolded. It's also tipped to come in silver, black, and blue for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, it may bring a slightly larger cover screen this year, with an Exynos chip powering the phone — a change from the usual Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. If rumours are accurate, this model could retain the core Flip experience while offering it at a more affordable price. Storage variants might include 128GB and 256GB, and it's said to launch in black and white colours.

AI-powered strategy helps Samsung retake lead from Apple in Q1 2025 smartphone market: IDC Report

The global smartphone market saw modest year-on-year growth of 0.4 per cent in the first quarter of 2025, with total shipments reaching 301.4 million units, according to the latest figures from the International Data Corporation (IDC). Amid a backdrop of heightened geopolitical tensions and tariff uncertainty between the United States and China, Samsung reclaimed its position as the world's leading smartphone vendor, edging past Apple thanks to its AI-integrated product portfolio. Samsung shipped 60.6 million units during the quarter, maintaining a 20.1 per cent market share, a slight increase of 0.6 per cent compared to Q1 2024. The South Korean tech giant's renewed dominance was fuelled by the strong performance of its flagship Galaxy S25 and the more affordable Galaxy A36 and A56, which brought advanced AI features to the mid-range segment. 'Samsung's focus on embedding AI capabilities across its product range — not just in premium models but in accessible mid-tier devices - has resonated with consumers, particularly in cost-sensitive markets,' said Francisco Jeronimo, Vice President of Client Devices at IDC. 'This broad AI strategy has given Samsung a crucial competitive edge at a time when market dynamics are shifting rapidly.' Apple, meanwhile, posted its best-ever Q1 in terms of units shipped, delivering 58.7 million iPhones, an 11.6 per cent increase year-on-year. This impressive growth was largely driven by an aggressive stockpiling strategy ahead of anticipated U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports, as well as robust demand in several international markets. Despite this, Apple narrowly missed out on the top spot and faced headwinds in China, where its Pro models did not benefit from a government subsidy scheme targeting devices under CNY6,000 (approx. $820). 'The U.S. market grew by 8.3 per cent in Q1, reflecting strong consumer demand and urgency to purchase ahead of potential price increases,' noted Anthony Scarsella, IDC's Research Director for Client Devices. 'Apple capitalised on this moment well, but ongoing volatility in trade policy makes sustained momentum uncertain.' Chinese brands also made notable gains, particularly within their domestic market. Xiaomi and Vivo benefitted significantly from a state-backed subsidy scheme aimed at boosting consumption. Xiaomi shipped 41.8 million units (up 2.4 per cent), while Vivo saw a 6.5 per cent increase, reaching 22.7 million units. OPPO, despite regaining fourth place, experienced a decline of 6.6 per cent due to weaker international performance. The IDC report also revealed a shrinking share for smaller vendors grouped under the 'Others' category, whose collective shipments dropped 6.1 per cent year-on-year, indicating continued consolidation among the top players. 'Looking ahead, vendors will need to balance innovation, affordability, and geopolitical risk in order to sustain growth,' concluded Jeronimo. 'Samsung's current lead highlights how strategic product development, especially around emerging technologies like AI, can shape market leadership even in uncertain times.'
