Stampede at Barabanki's Ausaneshwar Mahadev temple kills two, injures 30
The tragedy took place at Ausaneshwar Mahadev Temple at around 2 am as the crowd of devotees rushed to be a part of 'jalabhishek,' of Lord Shiva on the third Monday of holy month of Shravan.
In fact, the tragedy occurred when an electric wire fell on the tin shed inside the temple, causing panic among the devotees who started running helter-skelter.
As per the district administration authorities, a group of monkeys jumped on a high-voltage wire. The wire broke and fell on the tin shed on the temple premises. This led to the spread of electric current, triggering fear among the crowd. Panic soon turned into a stampede.
Those who lost their lives in the tragic incident included Prashant, 22 from Mubarakpura and another unidentified devotee who died during treatment at Trivediganj Community Health Centre (CHC).
A total of 10 injured people were taken to Trivediganj CHC. Out of them, five were referred to a district hospital due to serious injuries.

Youths caught faking bone in veg ‘biryani' to skip bill
Gorakhpur: In a bizarre attempt to dodge their restaurant bill, a group of youths in Gorakhpur staged a scene by placing a bone in a plate of veg biryani and alleging it was served by the restaurant. However, their act quickly unravelled when CCTV footage revealed the shocking truth. The incident took place on the night of July 31 at the 'Biryani Bae', a restaurant located at Shastri Chowk in the Cantonment police station area. A group of eight to 10 young men visited the restaurant and placed orders for both veg and non-veg biryani. Shortly after their meal was served, one of them began creating a ruckus, claiming that a bone was found in his veg biryani — a serious allegation, especially during the holy month of Shravan. After getting the information, the police managed to control the situation and a restaurant staff showed the CCTV footage in the restaurant to the police which clearly showed one of the youths handing a bone to another, who then discreetly placed it into the veg biryani plate to fake the claim, restaurant owner Ravikar Singh said. Singh added both veg and non-veg dishes are prepared separately in his kitchen and there was no possibility of cross-contamination. "They clearly wanted to avoid paying the bill, which was around Rs 5,000–Rs 6,000. Their actions were completely deliberate," he told the police. Circle Officer (CO) Cantonment, Yogendra Singh, confirmed the sequence of events, stating, "After receiving information, police reached the restaurant on July 31 and ensured law and order was maintained." However, no formal complaint has been lodged from either side so far.

Gold nose ring snatched in city
Jaipur: Street robberies in Jaipur continue to rise, with another incident reported on Aug 1 in Jaysinghpura Khor police station area. Two bike-borne men allegedly snatched a woman's gold nose ring while pretending to ask for directions. Thieves steal 3 gold chains at Jharkhand Mahadev Temple
1 2 Jaipur: During the holy month of Shravan, as crowds continue to swell at the city's Jharkhand Mahadev Temple, a gang of women thieves has been slipping through the rush, unhooking gold chains right inside the sanctum—while police stand just a few feet away. Between July 23 and July 28, at least three gold chains were stolen from women as they bent to pour water on the Shiva Linga, with two incidents occurring on the same day. The thefts follow a distinct pattern. One gang member pretends to offer blessings or nudges the target under the guise of crowd movement. In that moment of distraction, another unclasps the chain and quickly hands it off to an accomplice. The gang blends into the crowd before anyone realises what happened. What's raising eyebrows is the fact that these crimes happened in full public view—inside a sacred space—while police were present. CCTV footage confirms the thefts and shows the suspects in action, moving swiftly and confidently. Archana Singh, 45, a regular devotee, was one of the victims. "Before going in, we clicked a photo. My 20-gram chain is visible. After the ritual, it was gone," she told TOI. Later, police called her back and asked her to return and formally file the report after no breakthrough was made. No FIR has been registered so far, according to Singh. SHO Rajesh Kumar Singh said all FIRs have been filed in all known cases and that CCTV footage is being reviewed. "We are investigating," he said. However, he did not comment on why preventive measures—like frisking at entry or crowd control inside the sanctum—have not been enforced, especially given the surge in footfall during Shravan. Despite a heavy turnout of devotees every Monday and increasing complaints, no arrests have been made so far. Police say technical teams are working to identify the suspects, and extra deployment is being considered.
