We were the first to inform our readers that Ayushmann Khurrana is set to be the new age 'Prem' for Sooraj Barjatya. Soon after, we broke the news that Sharvari has joined the film, to play the female lead. The film is scheduled to go on floors in November 2025, with a 6-month schedule, and the makers are aiming to release the film on the big screen in the second half of 2026. And now, we have exclusively learnt that Sooraj Barjatya has roped in Anupam Kher to play a key role in his 9th directorial.
' Anupam Kher has been a part of almost all films directed by Sooraj Barjatya, and he continues the tradition by reuniting with him on the yet untitled romantic comedy set against the backdrop of nuclear families. Anupam Kher is excited to embark on a journey with his favorite director yet again,' revealed a source close to the development.
The source further informed that casting for other key characters of this yet untitled family romantic comedy is presently under way. 'A big ensemble will come on board the film, though the principal story will revolve around Ayushmann, and Sharvari. The core conflict of the film is about a modern couple with debates around joint family and nuclear families,' the source added.
Talking of Ayushmann, he is presently busy for Thama, which is gearing up for a Diwali 2025 release. The actor also has an untitled spy comedy with Karan Johar, scheduled for a 2026 opening. Housefull 5, starring Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and Abhishek Bachchan, was released on June 6 amid mixed reviews. Let's find out how much it collected at the box office on the day of its release. But, before that, let's find out how much is at stake. The total budget for Housefull 5 is ₹ 240 crore, according to Pinkvilla. Out of this, ₹ 225 crore was used for production. This covers the cost of paying the actors, shooting in multiple locations, building large sets and adding special effects. Another ₹ 15 crore was set aside for promotion, including posters, trailers and media events. Even before the film hit cinemas, it earned ₹ 135 crore through non-theatrical deals, the publication added. The digital streaming rights were sold for ₹ 75 crore, TV satellite rights brought in ₹ 40 crore, and the music rights fetched ₹ 20 crore. However, to break even, the film still needs to earn ₹ 105 crore through theatre collections. For this, it must collect around ₹ 250 crore from cinemas worldwide. Just breaking even is not enough to call a film a hit. For Housefull 5 to be considered a success at the box office, it needs to gross at least ₹ 325 crore worldwide, Pinkvilla added. After Deepika Padukone's exit from Spirit, many narratives emerged on why she is no longer a part of the film. Now, News18, citing its source, has reported that Deepika had "demanded ₹25 crore for approximately 35 days of shoot, along with a 10% profit share" to be a part of Sandeep Reddy Vanga. As per the report, Deepika had expressed her unwillingness to deliver dialogues in Telugu, "something the director felt strongly about". To top it off, confidential plot details from Spirit were allegedly leaked, which raised serious concerns among the producers," the source told News18. Sandeep, according to the report, "believes actors speaking their own lines". 'Contrary to speculation, her restricted filming schedule of under 8 hours a day was never the primary issue. In filmmaking, working hours are fluid and depend on location, lighting, and various technical factors. You could shoot for 2 hours or 8, depending on the scene. Last month, Deepika exited the film, and Triptii Dimri replaced her. Following that, Sandeep shared a scathing post seemingly criticising Deepika for 'ousting' the script of his next film, Spirit. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sandeep didn't name anyone, but appeared to have slammed Deepika for "dirty PR games" and "putting down a younger actor". His post came after a Pinkvilla report shared details about Spirit's story. Deepika, who recently embraced motherhood, reportedly stipulated that she would not work more than eight hours a day during the shoot so that she could be with her daughter, Dua. However, her demands weren't met, and she exited the film. The actor had received widespread support online after initial reports called the demands 'unprofessional'. Spirit, which stars Prabhas in the lead role, is set to go on floors soon. It is produced by T-Series and Bhadrakali Pictures.
