Thunder's Isaiah Hartenstein sounds off on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's ‘ego'
Oklahoma City Thunder center Isaiah Hartenstein reflected on his first season with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the league's Most Valuable Player, scoring title champion, and NBA Finals MVP. In a recent interview with Philadelphia 76ers' Paul George, Hartenstein reflected on winning two seven-game series en route to his and the franchise's first championship, as well as what makes Gilgeous-Alexander such a special player and teammate.
Amid Gilgeous-Alexander's accolades, national praise, and ascension to stardom in the 2024-25 season, Hartenstein says the MVP's humble approach to leading the Thunder's offense stands out most, per Podcast P with Paul George.
'He has no ego. There's no I'm just gonna score, I'm trying to make it by myself — it's never that,' Hartenstein said. 'There were even times at the beginning of the season where he threw me a pass, he got trapped, and I threw it to the next man to get a shot. And I'm like, 'Sorry. I'll finish it next time to get you an assist,' and he's like I don't care. I just wanna win. So, do whatever you need. Even if he's putting up those huge numbers, he's not searching them.'
Gilgeous-Alexander's effort on defense sets the right example in his role as the Thunder's leader.
'He's trying to make the team as best as possible,' Hartenstein added. 'Him playing on both ends of the court — I think that's something that's super underrated. He plays defense. You can't just go pick on him, and he tries on defense. It's not like I settled for five seconds. I'm tired. I'm gonna just chill on defense. He doesn't do that. When you see that, it just gives us the push, gives us the confidence that he's gonna do it on both sides of the court, for sure.'
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 30.3 points on 44.3% shooting, 5.6 assists, 4.6 rebounds, 1.9 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game in the Thunder's seven-game NBA Finals series against the Indiana Pacers.

'We were always confident throughout the series,' Hartenstein said. 'I think the only series where we were kind of a little bit against the ropes was Denver — just Jokic. The way they play. They've been there before, and that's probably the only series where we were like, even if we do everything right, they probably still have a chance. Every other series, we were like, if we do the right things, we're good.'
Hartenstein helped the Thunder win its first championship in franchise history.

Buffalo Bills sign two receivers with injuries mounting
Two pass-catchers have found themselves back with the Buffalo Bills this week. Thanks in part to a bit of a whirlwind of circumstances. Re-joining the team on a one-year deal is wide receiver Deon Cain, who was with Buffalo for training camp last summer, putting up three catches for 28 yards during preseason action. Cain was a 2018 sixth-round NFL Draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts out of Clemson. He has also played for the Eagles, Ravens, and Steelers, as well as for the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL, earning MVP honors during the 2023 USFL Championship game with a three-touchdown performance. Joining him in the Bills receiver group is an undrafted rookie receiver who proved to be a 96-hour release-then-resign player, Kelly Akharaiyi. Akharaiyi was gearing up for his first NFL training camp practice when he was waived along with punter Jake Camarda in order to make room for former Patriots tight end Matt Sokol and second-year wide receiver David White Jr. out of Jacksonville. White was excused from Friday's practice for personal reasons, then placed on the reserve/retired list. Buffalo then pivoted to re-sign Akharaiyi Saturday to the 90-man roster. Leicester City complete the signing of Asmir Begovic
Leicester City have signed veteran goalkeeper Asmir Begovic on a one-year contract. Begovic was a free agent after being released by Everton earlier this summer and had interest from several clubs before choosing to sign for Leicester. The Bosnian's move to Leicester will see him reunite with Marti Cifuentes, who previously managed him at Queens Park Rangers, where Begovic featured in 45 Championship games during the 2023/24 season. 'I feel really excited,' he told 'It's a pleasure to be here and a big honour to join such a great club. I can't wait to get going. It's not every day that a club of this stature gets in touch about joining. 'Hopefully we can have an exciting season where we can challenge at the top of the table and get the Club back where it belongs.' Having featured for Chelsea, Stoke City and Bournemouth in the past, Begovic brings a wealth of experience to Leicester City's goalkeeping department and will be expected to provide competition and mentorship. Begovic is Leicester's first signing of the summer window, but more arrivals are expected as the Foxes prepare for life back in the Championship following last season's relegation from the Premier League. Leicester are resigned to losing the likes of Wilfred Ndidi and Bilal El Khannouss and will need to replace them properly. The East Midlands outfit have one final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina to navigate this weekend before getting their Championship campaign underway at home to Sheffield Wednesday on August 10.
