Virender Sehwag compared Virat Kohli's 18-year wait for an IPL title with Sachin Tendulkar's long journey to win a World Cup for India. Kohli finally lifted the trophy with RCB in IPL 2025 after defeating Punjab Kings by 6 runs. read more
Former India opener Virender Sehwag recently spoke about Virat Kohli's long journey to finally winning an IPL trophy. Kohli won the IPL title in 2025 with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), ending 18 years of heartbreak. They defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 final by 6 runs to win the elusive cup.
Sehwag draws parallel between Kohli and Tendulkar's long wait
Virender Sehwag said Virat Kohli's wait reminded him of how long it took for legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar to win a World Cup. Tendulkar's wait for a World Cup ended in 2011 when India defeated Sri Lanka on home soil to win their second 50-over championship. Both Sehwag and Kohli were part of that win in 2011.

'His (Kohli's) wait to win the trophy is only 18 years. Sachin Tendulkar waited from 1989 to 2011. So, Kohli's wait was shorter, and even Sachin never lost hope. He had made up his mind, he would only bow out with a World Cup trophy in his hand,' Sehwag told Cricbuzz.
Sehwag on Kohli's future in IPL
Sehwag further stated that now Kohli has won the IPL and can relax and take his own call on when to stop playing in the league. Kohli has already retired from T20Is and Test cricket and will only be seen in ODIs for India. However, he is expected to play the IPL for a couple more years, considering his fitness level and lack of international duty.
'It's the same for Virat Kohli. Now, he can be relieved. He can happily stop playing IPL whenever he wants to make that decision. A player plays to win the trophy. Money comes and goes, but winning trophies isn't easy. Even as Kohli's wait ended, he has still made a very strong contribution in their campaign,' Sehwag added.
Kohli had been part of the RCB squad since the start of the IPL in 2008 and stayed loyal to the team through all ups and downs. His victory in IPL 2025 made it an emotional moment not just for him but also for his fans. Kohli is the only player from that original batch of 2008 to have played for just one team.

Kohli Warned This 'X' Account To Stop Abusing Him, 14 Years Later This Happened

Last Updated: Virat Kohli, in a 2011 'X' post, had warned a user named Ishaan to stop using abusive language to the cricketer. Indian cricketer Virat Kohli knows how to give back to trolls – on the field or off it. Kohli's aggressive approach has helped him keep the troublemakers at bay but even the most celebrated cricketer in India couldn't do much except to issue a warning directly to an 'X' (formerly known as Twitter) user, asking the account to stop using foul language and abusing him. This was back in 2011. 'your account has been reported and will be deactivated soon. dont tweet if u wana use foul language (sic)," Kohli, tagging the X user, wrote. The account, which went by the username of Ishaan, routinely returned with jibes at Kohli by making appearances under Kohli's original post. @ishaan3 your account has been reported and will be deactivated soon. dont tweet if u wana use foul language.— Virat Kohli (@imVkohli) December 6, 2011 Er. Ishaan A year after Kohli issued the warning, Ishaan returned to the post in 2012 asking the cricketer how he was doing. Not the one to let it go, Ishaan, returning to the thread in 2016, informed Kohli that his account was intact even after five years since the incident. A year later, in 2017, laughing at the absurdity of it all, Ishaan made yet another comeback letting the Indian batter know that he was still around and thriving. After a hiatus of four years, the purported abusive account returned to 'X' to mark the 10th anniversary of Kohli's OG warning post. 'It has been 11 years even today I am active," he wrote in a post the following year. Ishaan Suspended In a surprising turn of events, the account has been suspended on the Elon Musk-owned social media platform. (X/Screengrab) Upon clicking on Ishaan's handle, X informs users that the account has been suspended for violating the guidelines of the platform. End Of An Era X users got the whiff of Ishaan's departure and they heaved a sigh of relief that the one-sided beef had finally concluded. Finally suspended 😭🤣 — Wellu (@Wellutwt) June 11, 2025 X's longest rivalry had finally ended, many remarked. 'ishaan survived for 14 years but Kohli has the last laugh. A long twitter rivalry ended, (sic)" a user, responding to the suspension message on Ishaan's now-defunct X account wrote. Meanwhile, Kohli found several mentions on Wednesday after the World Test Championship final commenced between South Africa and Australia. Lord's Cricket Ground, the chosen venue for the big event, saw packed stands and fans from various cricketing nations cheering on as Day 1 of the much-awaited Test turned out to be an eventual one. Trolls mocked Kohli's fans who had wondered if the cricket and Test-loving community would take the same amount of interest in the red-ball game as they did when Kohli played in all whites for India. Kohli bid farewell to the Tests on May 12, 2025. He featured in 123 Test matches and scored 9,230 runs that comprised 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries. He had a batting average of 46.9. IND vs ENG: KL Rahul has special message to Karun Nair ahead of England series

KL Rahul and Karun Nair Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul has expressed strong support for his former Karnataka teammate Karun Nair, who has made a comeback to the Indian Test cricket squad after an eight-year gap. Nair, who previously scored a triple century against England in 2016, earned his recall following impressive performances in domestic cricket and county cricket in England. Karun Nair's return to the national team comes after a successful stint with Northampton in the 2024 County Championship Division Two, where he scored 487 runs in 11 innings. His recent form includes a double century (204) for India A against England Lions in an unofficial Test match. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The 33-year-old Nair demonstrated exceptional form in domestic cricket last season, accumulating nine centuries across different formats. His Ranji Trophy campaign yielded 863 runs in 9 matches at an average of 53.93, including four centuries and two half-centuries. 07:10 'Nitish Kumar is a guy who can bowl that magic ball': India bowling coach Morne Morkel In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Nair maintained his impressive run-scoring ability, amassing 779 runs in eight innings at an average of 389.50, including five centuries. His first-class cricket record shows 8470 runs in 186 innings at an average of 49.82, with 24 centuries and 36 half-centuries. "I've known him for a very long time and the months that he spent here in the UK playing cricket and how hard and how lonely it was and for him to be able to do all of that and come back into the Indian team," KL Rahul said in a video posted by BCCI . "I think it's special for him, for his family, and for friends like us who've seen his journey. So, like I said very inspiring as well and hopefully his experience and his learnings from playing county cricket here will hold him in good stead when he plays the Test matches here," Rahul added. Quiz: Who's that IPL player? Nair's previous stint with the Indian Test team lasted from November 2016 to March 2017, during which he scored 374 runs in seven innings. His career highlight came when he became only the second Indian batsman after Virender Sehwag to score a triple century in Test cricket, achieving the feat with an unbeaten 303 against England in Chennai in December 2016. "Feels really special. Very grateful and very fortunate to be able to get this opportunity again and really looking forward and excited to grab this opportunity with both hands," Nair said in response to his selection. "Not sure actually! I think I'll have to experience that feeling myself and, you know, just go out there and feel it for myself. And I'm sure there'll be a lot of feelings, ones that I can't express right now and It'll be a special feeling," Nair added when asked about his emotions regarding the comeback. The duo of Rahul and Nair share a long history, having played age-group cricket together and recently representing Delhi Capitals in the 2025 IPL season. Nair's selection for the upcoming five-match Test series against England comes with the advantage of his recent experience in English conditions through county cricket.

Karun Nair 'excited to grab the opportunity with both hands' on England tour

New Delhi: India batter Karun Nair, who is making his comeback to the red-ball team after a hiatus of eight years, is excited to make the most of the opportunity in the upcoming five-match Test series against England starting on June 20. Nair has been in phenomenal form and struck a double ton against the England Lions in the first unofficial Test at Canterbury. In the recently concluded IPL 2025 season, he played eight matches for Delhi Capitals and amassed 198 runs, including a half-century. The 33-year-old made his Test debut against England in Mohali in 2016 and he went on to hit an unbeaten 303 in his third Test in Chennai and grabbed eyeballs. However, after that historic knock, he only played three home Tests against Australia in 2017 before being dropped from the team due to a series of low scores. The right-handed batter never lost hope of making a comeback into the Indian team. After switching his base from Karnataka to Vidarbha in 2023, he scored 690 runs in 10 games and followed it with 863 runs in nine Ranji Trophy games in 2024 with four centuries, including one in the finals, which carved the way for Vidarbha to lift the trophy. Nair also showed signs of power-hitting in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, amassing 779 runs in just eight innings, including five centuries, which prompted the Delhi Capitals to pick him in the 2024 IPL mega auction for Rs 50 lakh. "Feels really special, very grateful and very fortunate to be able to get this opportunity again and really looking forward and excited to grab this opportunity with both hands," Nair said in a video posted by BCCI on social media. "Not sure actually, I've to experience that feeling myself and just go out there and feel it for myself. I'm sure there will be a lot of feelings, ones that I can't express right now and it will be a special feeling," he added. In the pre-training huddle, head coach Gautam Gambhir praised Nair's comeback to the Test side after eight years and said, "Comebacks are never easy. Someone who has made a comeback after seven [eight] years had a phenomenal last year. Last year, no matter the runs you have got and most importantly, that never-die attitude, never-giving-up attitude, that is something which has got you back into the team. That is something which is inspiring for this entire world. Welcome, Karun." With the Test retirements of stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, it is likely that Nair will get a chance in the middle order because of his County experience with Northamptonshire, where he scored 487 runs in seven games at an average of 48.70, including a double century. Nair's former Karnataka teammate and experienced batter KL Rahul was elated with the return of him to the Indian setup. "I've known him for a very long time and the months that he spent here in the UK playing cricket and how hard and how lonely it was. For him, to be able to do all of that and comeback to the Indian team is special for him, his family and friends like us who've seen his journey. So, like I said, very inspiring as well, and hopefully, his experience and learnings from playing county cricket here will hold him in good stead when he plays the Test matches here," Rahul said in a video. India's all-important Test series against England runs from June 20 to August 4, with Headingley, Edgbaston, Lord's, Old Trafford and The Oval being the venues. India are aiming to win a Test series in England for the first time since 2007.
