UTSA cruises to 10-2 victory over Kansas State in nightcap of Austin Regional
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — James Taussig hit a three-run homer and Norris McClure added a solo shot to back a strong start by Zach Royse and No. 2 seed UTSA beat third-seeded Kansas State 10-2 in the nightcap of the Austin Regional on Friday.
UTSA (45-13) will play No. 1 seed Texas on Saturday. Kansas State (31-25) will play an elimination game against No. 4 seed Houston Christian to start the day.
Andrew Stucky had an RBI single in the first inning and McClure homered in the third for a 2-0 lead off Wildcats starter Jacob Frost (1-5).
Taussig homered off Ty Ruhl with two outs in the sixth for a 6-1 lead. Ruhl retired the first batter he faced after replacing Frost before Taussig hit the first pitch he saw out to center field. He finished 2 for 4 and scored twice.
Ty Hodge and Lorenzo Morresi had RBI base hits in a four-run seventh.
Royse (9-4) allowed one run on three hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings. Christian Okerholm pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings to close it out.
Nick English had a pinch-hit solo homer in the seventh for the Wildcats off reliever Robert Orloski.
Frost gave up five runs in 5 1/3 innings on five hits and four walks. Ruhl was tagged for four runs in an inning.
Kansas State has played in six NCAA Tournaments — including last season — but never advanced to the College World Series.
UTSA is playing in its fourth national tourney and first since 2013 without a CWS appearance.

I didn't want to just hold on for a couple of series and almost play for selfish reasons,' Maxwell said. The Australian selectors 'are moving in such a clear direction,' he said, so the retirement confirmation 'gives them the best look at what the lineup is leading into that next World Cup. I know how important that planning is.' Australia's selection chairman George Bailey said Maxwell was one of the one-day game's most dynamic players and played a key role in two ODI World Cup titles. The shorter T20 format is still a good vehicle for Maxwell's rare talents. 'His level of natural talent and skill is remarkable. His energy in the field, under-rated ability with the ball and longevity has been superb,' Bailey said. 'What else stands out is his passion for and commitment to playing for Australia. Caraway has HR, 4 RBIs to help Oregon St. beat USC 14-1, stay alive at Corvallis Regional
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Trent Caraway had a double, a home run, and four RBIs, Gavin Turley also hit a homer and Oregon State beat Southern California 14-1 at the Corvallis Regional on Sunday night. Oregon State (44-13-1) can win its second consecutive regional title with another win over the Trojans on Monday. The Beavers — who lost 6-4 to Saint Mary's Friday, then won games Saturday against TCU and earlier Sunday against Saint Mary's, avenging their opening-round loss by beating the Gaels 20-3 — have won three consecutive elimination games. Oregon State starter Wyatt Queen gave up back-to-back singles to lead off the fifth, walked Ethan Hedges to load the bases and struck out Bryce Grudzielanek before Kellan Oakes came on and struck out Adrian Lopez looking and then got Abbrie Covarrubias swinging to end the threat. BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Angel Cano hit a two-run home run in the second inning and a bases-clearing double in the third to help No. 4 seed Little Rock beat host and top-seeded LSU 10-4 on Saturday night to win avoid elimination at the Baton Rouge Regional on Sunday night. The Trojans (27-33), making their second NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2014, can clinch a berth in the super regionals with a win Monday over No. 6 national seed LSU. LSU beat Little Rock 7-0 on Friday and followed Saturday with a 12-0 win over Dallas Baptist to advance to the championship round. The Trojans, who lost 13 of 14 to close the regular season before winning five straight to win the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, exploded for 22 runs Saturday in a win over Rhode Island and beat Dallas Baptist 8-6 in an elimination game earlier Sunday.
