THE 2023/24 season was one that brought a league and cup double to Celtic.
But while there was widespread success in Brendan Rodgers' first season back, not everything went exactly to plan.

Despite Celtic's impressive campaign, many of the players signed ahead of the season haven't gone on to hit the heights that might've been expected.
Luis Palma, Gustaf Lagerbielke and Odin Thiago Holm were among the big summer recruits.
They'd enjoy more success in the January window with Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah the two big name arrivals.
One player who left the Celts that month was Nat Phillips.
The big defender's departure brought an end to a torrid loan spell from Liverpool.
A defensive injury crisis towards the end of the summer transfer window saw Rodgers enter the market for centre-back cover.
And on deadline day, Phillips arrived on a short-term loan deal from Liverpool.
But Phillips, 28, would go on to endure a tough time of things at Celtic Park.
His five-month stint ended with Phillips having made just eight appearances for the Hoops in all competitions.
Phillips' last appearance was a particularly torrid one, as he netted an own goal in a 2-1 defeat to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park in a game where he struggled badly.
Celtic icon Peter Grant lifts the lid on former teammate Mo Johnston's shocking move to Rangers and reveals whether he's forgiven him for it
Having made his senior debut for Liverpool in 2019, Phillips had failed to enjoy a regular run of first team football during his career.
A defensive crisis at Anfield saw him play 20 times in the 2020/21 campaign, but he'd feature just a further eight times in all competitions for the club.
He had short loan spells at Stuttgart and Bournemouth before moving on another loan to Cardiff immediately after his Celtic exit.
Last season, Phillips finally enjoyed a campaign of regular action.
That was during a season-long loan at Derby County, where he played 33 times to help the Rams maintain their Championship status.
Now, he's on the move again and this time it's permanent.
3
Phillips has sealed a £3million move to West Brom on a three-year deal.
The Baggies will be hoping to mount a promotion challenge under new boss Ryan Mason this coming season.
They've been out of the top tier since being relegated in 2021.

Paul Mullin makes 'strange' admission and comes clean on Wrexham feelings after exit

Paul Mullin makes 'strange' admission and comes clean on Wrexham feelings after exit Paul Mullin became a hero after helping fire Wrexham to three promotions, but has confessed to finding the media spotlight difficult to handle after moving on loan to Wigan Wrexham striker Paul Mullin admits he found the media glare tough to handle at times Paul Mullin has admitted he found it "strange" being under the spotlight at Wrexham after joining Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan deal. The 30-year-old striker became a firm favourite among fans after signing for the Red Dragons from Cambridge United in July 2021. He helped fire the club, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, to three successive promotions after scoring 110 goals in 172 appearances. ‌ Mullin also became a household name after featuring in the Welcome to Wrexham documentary and even making a cameo in last year's Deadpool & Wolverine movie after being asked by Reynolds. However, he fell out of favour under Phil Parkinson in League One in the second half of last season as he struggled to find the net after undergoing back surgery last summer. ‌ The Liverpudlian failed to make a single league appearance after January when Parkinson brought in strikers Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez. Mullin was left as a spectator as Wrexham went on to gain promotion to the Championship in April and will now play for Wigan in the third tier next season. Reflecting on his departure, he admitted to feeling disappointed at how his time at the Racecourse Ground ended, albeit with two years still left on his contract. He also confessed to finding the attention associated with being a Wrexham player tough to handle at times. "It was sad to leave there with how it ended," Mullin told Wigan's club media team. "That happens in football and you leave clubs, but just the way it's gone has been quite disappointing. But one door closes and another one opens. I'm ready for a new chapter and I'm so buzzing to be here and go out and play every week for Wigan. Article continues below Ryan Reynolds and Paul Mullin have shared a close bond at Wrexham (Image: Matthew Ashton - AMA/Getty Images ) "It's been quite hard and strange to be honest, at times. When we were playing in the National League, because of who the owners are and because of the attention we had at the club after the documentary, I ended up probably getting a lot more attention than many players who play in the Premier League and are a lot better at football than me. "That was quite strange to accept, but I'm one of those people where I just get on with it. I just try be myself and roll with it and found it quite funny. It's an absolute privilege that anybody would ever stop me in the street to speak to me and take a photo." ‌ The announcement of Mullin's departure was met with sadness by Wrexham fans as uncertainty remains over whether he will ever play for the club again. Wrexham co-owner Reynolds is among those who have paid a glowing tribute to him for his contribution. After the loan deal was confirmed on Monday evening, the actor took to X to write: "I can't imagine seeing Mulls on loan and in another kit. We wouldn't be where we are without his heart, skill and work ethic. We love you, @PMullin7. SPM [Super Paul Mullin]". ‌ The striker previously tried to play down rumours of a rift between him and Parkinson. But he admitted to feeling resentment at being left out of the team during a recently aired episode of the Welcome to Wrexham documentary. "I let that get to me, to be honest, from where I've been to then only being allowed to play four games and finding myself being left out of the team," Mullin said. "I resented it and I carried that for weeks because I felt it was unjust. I think I'm more annoyed now. It's the annoyance of training every single day, doing everything I can, and looking back on everything I've done. Article continues below "I feel like I was a main part of why we got into this situation, and then I'm not being allowed the platform to get back there, or the opportunity to go and do it again. It's difficult. I don't know what's caused him (Parkinson) to trust me less, but he clearly does."

Ex-Celtic star sees £9million bid from European giants REJECTED just 12 months after he quit Parkhead for £2.5m

FEYENOORD have had a £9million bid rejected by Genk for former Celtic striker Oh Hyeon-gyu. The South Korean star moved to Belgian football last summer in a deal reportedly worth £2.5m to the Scottish champions plus another £1 million in performance-related bonuses. 2 Oh Hyeon-gyu is a wanted man this summer Credit: Kenny Ramsay 2 The striker faced the Dutch giants in the Champions League Credit: Kenny Ramsay However, it was undisclosed whether Celtic had inserted a sell-on fee for the 24-year-old. Feyenoord are desperate to land Oh, but Genk have made it clear they have no intention of selling the 19-times capped international, who still has three years of his deal left. He was mostly used as a sub for Genk during his first season in Belgium and only made three league starts, but still scored nine goals for them. But Genk are set to sell Manchester United-linked star striker Tolu Arokodare and want to promote Oh as their main attacking threat for the new season and Feyenoord would have to substantially up their offer to have any chance of signing the player. Oh revealed last summer he felt he had to leave Celtic - where he scored 12 goals in all competitions despite only making six starts - because of the arrival of Adam Idah. He said: "I had lost my place in my national team because I was no longer playing for Celtic. "It was then I knew I had to get a transfer. "I scored 12 goals in total for Celtic, but I hardly played in the last six months. "They had brought in a new striker, someone with a different profile - a big, strong boy - and they had to find a solution for me. "I thought that was a shame at first because I really loved Celtic. It's a great club. "But when Genk came calling, I didn't hesitate. I had a few options in the English Championship, but I just wanted to come here. "When you see all the players who came through here - Kevin De Bruyne, Thibaut Courtois, Leandro Trossard and more. That's impressive, isn't it?" ‘He needs to be backed wherever he runs' – Templegate's three top tips for the big summer races

Send shivers down the bookies' spines with some ante-post liabilities TASTY TRIO 'He needs to be backed wherever he runs' – Templegate's three top tips for the big summer races Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) NOW the dust has settled on Royal Ascot we can turn our attention to a whole load of big races coming up this summer. With Newmarket's July Festival, Glorious Goodwood and the York Ebor quickly approaching, now is the time to strike in the ante-post markets. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 Almaqam saw his form boosted massively when Ombudsman, seen here trailing behind in second in the Brigadier Gerard, bolted up in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes Credit: Getty Here, I take aim at three of the bigger contests and reveal my thinking behind the selections. Coral-Eclipse (July 5) The Coral-Eclipse is bubbling up to be a cracker with Ombudsman putting himself firmly in the picture by winning the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at the Royal meeting. He showed a sharp turn of foot once getting a clear run and he won without too much trouble. The bookies may have overreacted a little by making him 7-4 favourite for the Eclipse. After all, second home Anmaat doesn't seem the greatest in a battle. At current prices, ALMAQAM looks a better bet. He had no trouble in dealing with Ombudsman when they met in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown in late May. The latter clearly improved for that run but Ed Walker's colt seemed to have a lot left in the tank. His liking for a little bit of cut in the ground is a slight worry but his liking for the track is a plus and the British summer could easily deliver a deluge or two which would make the current 10-1 very tempting indeed. Of course if Field Of Gold turns up they are all probably playing for a place. July Cup (July 12) I hope connections of MORE THUNDER stick their neck out and supplement their speedster for the July Cup as he'd have a massive chance. He's not in the betting at the moment but his performance in just missing out in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot last week was blistering. He clocked one of the biggest speed figures I have ever seen for the final half of the race after he took a little while to get going. He is 100 per cent a Group horse and looks like he could well be a Group 1 horse at that. William Haggas' flyer needs to be backed wherever he turns up next. If he stays in handicaps and takes up his entry at the BUNBURY CUP at Newmarket on July 12 he deserves to be closer to 2-1 than the general 4s that's kicking about now. York Ebor (August 23) I would love to see FRENCH DUKE turn up in the Ebor at York after his solid comeback run in the Duke Of Edinburgh at Royal Ascot last week. He was very well backed into 4-1 but got caught up in traffic and didn't have enough time to get into the race coming around the final bend. I think stepping up a quarter of a mile in the Ebor would be the perfect race for him with this under his belt. He's had just seven starts and shapes like a real stayer who could see his handicap mark of 99 come down a little after this run. There are lots of other options and I'll be looking out for him wherever he goes – but I hope it's to the Knavesmire on August 23. He could go off at a big price and run very well indeed.
