State Cabinet approves land swap for Oberoi Hotel Project in Tirupati
At its meeting held on Wednesday, the Cabinet sanctioned the swapping of 24.68 acres of APTA land in Survey No. 604 at Peruru village with 25 acres of TTD land in Survey No. 588A of the same village.
This follows a resolution passed by the TTD Board during an emergency meeting on May 7 at Tirumala, chaired by TTD Chairman B R Naidu, supporting the land swap. The decision effectively revives, with changes, an earlier plan to allocate land near Alipiri to the Oberoi Group.
In January 2023, the then YSRCP government had allotted 24.68 acres to the group along the Alipiri–SV Zoo Park road in Peruru for a luxury hotel project under the name 'Mumtaz Hotels'. However, the project faced opposition from Hindu groups who objected to the hotel's name and its proximity to the pilgrimage site, citing concerns over the sanctity of the area.
After the change in government, TTD Chairman B R Naidu raised objections to the original allotment. In March 2025, the TTD Board resolved to cancel both the 35-acre land granted to Mumtaz Hotels and the land sanctioned for the Devlok project near the Alipiri–Cherlopalli road. Subsequently, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu instructed TTD to identify an alternative site.
The newly approved location lies on the opposite side of the same road, reportedly situated between Aravind Eye Hospital and TATA Cancer Institute. With the Cabinet's approval, the earlier land allotment stands officially cancelled, allowing the Oberoi Group to proceed with its project at the new site.

BJP netas meet Pragya to extend support, a day after Uma drops in
Bhopal: A week after her acquittal by a NIA court in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, former Bhopal Lok Sabha MP Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur got a visit from the state BJP top brass. State BJP president Hemant Khandelwal, party's in-charge of Madhya Pradesh affairs Mahendra Singh and state party organisational general secretary Hitanand Sharma reached the residence of the former MP on Thursday evening to extend their support after the court's verdict. The state BJP called it a courtesy visit. However, former MP chief minister Uma Bharti met Pragya Thakur ahead of the state leaders. On Wednesday, Bharti garlanded her, touched her feet, kissed her forehead and embraced her with tears in her eyes. Uma Bharti described Pragya Thakur as a messiah. "This is an emotional moment. We had met in jail. That too was an emotional meeting. The amount of tapasya Pragya Didi underwent, even I would not be able to endure. I think she is a messiah. "She underwent inconceivable torture with steadfast courage. Those who used the phrase saffron terror should now be charge with sedition," Uma Bharti said. "Didi (Uma Bharti) always spreads love. Today, she has come to honour saffron. She has always struggled for Hindutva. When I was in jail, she raised her voice in my support. She did what no man had the courage to do," Pragya Thakur said after her meeting with Uma Bharti. Less than 15 hours after the meeting between Pragya Thakur and Uma Bharti, state BJP leaders rushed to her residence. Following the meeting, state BJP president Hemant Khandelwal said that the allegations levelled against Pragya Thakur were sad and unfortunate. "She has fought an extraordinary battle for Sanatan. Truth can be disturbed but not defeated. The court's decision has proven that a person following Sanatan Dharma can never be involved in a terrorism," Khandelwal said. Handing her a flower bouquet, the state BJP functionaries congratulated her on the acquittal in the Malegaon blast case. However, sources in state BJP said the visit by the governing party top brass came a day too late. Sources said that the meeting could have come a day or two earlier since she has been a BJP MP and the verdict has been in her favour. Her acquittal also backs the party's core agenda that there is no Hindu or saffron terror as was claimed by the Congress. Khandelwal also said that the Congress, which created narratives like "Hindu terrorism" should always remember that a Hindu can never be a terrorist. "The court's decision has given an answer to those who insult Sanatan Dharma, sants and saffron. The seven accused persons including Pragya Thakur have endured unbearable pain, social boycott and political attacks in the last 17 years. Due to the greed for votes and politics of appeasement, Congress and its allies not only implicated innocent people, but also made an organised effort to tarnish the image of the entire Hindu society. There is a wave of happiness among followers of Hindu religion due to this decision," the BJP state chief said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Rioters in Sambhal face the wrath of 'Mahakal': CM Yogi Adityanath
Sambhal, Aug 7 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath lashed out at political rivals and historical wrongs, declaring Sambhal a sacred symbol of Hindu faith. CM Yogi took aim at foreign invaders, Congress, and the Samajwadi Party, warning that 'those who sinned against Sambhal will face stern retribution.' CM was in Sambhal on Thursday where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 222 development projects worth Rs 659 crore in Bahjoi. Addressing a public gathering on the occasion, CM Yogi while launching a sharp attack on foreign invaders, unveiled Sambhal's suppressed history. He said the town once boasted 68 pilgrimage sites, 19 sacred wells, and traditional 24- and 84-kos parikrama routes — all desecrated and destroyed by invaders. These holy sites were taken over, and a deliberate attempt was made to erase the truth, he asserted. Calling it a 'malicious conspiracy,' CM Yogi Adityanath vowed to restore all 68 shrines and 19 sacred wells in Sambhal. Citing Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar's revival of Kashi Vishwanath and Somnath temples, he pledged a similar renaissance for Sambhal's heritage. 'True development,' he said, 'lies in preserving legacy while shaping the golden dreams of today and tomorrow.' Emphasizing Sambhal's spiritual significance, CM Yogi said it is a sacred land of both Hari (Vishnu) and Har (Shiva), and foretold in scriptures like the Shrimad Bhagavat, Skanda, and Vishnu Puranas as the birthplace of Lord Kalki in Kaliyug. Hitting out at those who label Hindu traditions as controversial, he said, 'Their background is controversial, so they see our heritage the same way — but this is not up for dispute.' He warned that all such malicious attempts to undermine Sanatan Dharma will be firmly crushed. Referencing the revival of Kashi and Ayodhya, CM Yogi asked, 'If they can be restored, why not Sambhal?' He reaffirmed his government's resolve to rejuvenate Lord Kalki's shrine and Harihar Dham. Taking aim at Congress and SP, he said, 'Congress orchestrated mass killings here, and SP, as its disciple, shielded the murderers. Never forget their sins against Sambhal.' 'They hid the truth of post-independence massacres out of fear of losing their vote bank,' said CM Yogi Adityanath. 'We are not here for vote bank politics- we are here to preserve our heritage. Those who shame India and its values will be taught a lesson their future generations won't forget.' Taking a tough stand against rioters and anarchists, CM Yogi said past governments allowed riots, lawlessness, and exploitation to flourish. 'Girls weren't safe, traders weren't safe. But today, every citizen in UP is secure—except the rioters. Mahakal is delivering justice,' he stated. The Chief Minister emphasized that the evil intentions of those trying to hide the truth of Sambhal will be crushed. 'Those who sinned against Sambhal will face punishment. Those trying to hinder Sambhal's development will pay the price. Those who desecrate the holy sites of Sanatan Dharma will also pay the price', he said. Highlighting his government's achievements, CM Yogi said that over the past eight years, 8.5 lakh jobs have been provided, including the recent police recruitment of 60,200 youth. He slammed previous governments, saying they nurtured one mafia per district, whereas his government is promoting the 'One District, One Product' scheme. He mentioned key welfare initiatives such as housing for the poor, free ration, grants for daughters' weddings, and health services. Highlighting the upcoming festivals, CM Yogi noted that August 9 marks both Raksha Bandhan and Kakori Train Action Memorial Day, followed by Independence Day on August 15 and Shri Krishna Janmashtami on August 16. Echoing PM Modi's call, he urged citizens to hoist the national flag. Praising the resilience of Sambhal's people, he said they faced riots with courage and never bowed down. He assured them that the double-engine government is firmly committed to both heritage preservation and development. CM Yogi said the projects inaugurated today are just a glimpse of what's to come. He highlighted that 222 projects worth ₹659 crore have been launched in Sambhal, covering education, vocational training, drinking water, roads, Anganwadi centres, and infrastructure for composite schools. ‘Khalid Ka Shivaji' Sparks Maha Row Over Historical Distortion
Nagpur: Atop a gentle hill in Girad village in Wardha district, surrounded by lush greenery and revered equally by Hindu and Muslim devotees, stands the Sheikh Farid Dargah. A site known for harmony was used as a prominent plot in the Raj More-directed Marathi film, 'Khalid Ka Shivaji', which has now triggered statewide controversy over an alleged historical distortion. The otherwise quiet village, 76km off Nagpur, has suddenly catapulted into the spotlight after the film slated for release on August 8, was selected for Cannes Film Festival. The movie features several key scenes, including a zilla parishad school along with the dargah and its scenic landscape. While the village itself is not the source of protest, the film has inadvertently pulled Girad into the narrative. The film follows a young Muslim boy whose worldview is transformed after reading about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj . However, right-wing groups have accused the filmmaker of twisting facts for communal appeasement. Protesters say the film falsely claims 35% of Shivaji's army was Muslim and even depicts a mosque on Raigad Fort, which they say amounts to historical misrepresentation. Protests erupted after two individuals interrupted CM Devendra Fadnavis's speech during the recent Maharashtra Marathi Film Awards in Mumbai and demanded a ban on the film. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Treatment That Might Help You Against Knee Pain Knee pain | search ads Find Now Undo According to a local gramsevak, a 30-member film crew arrived in Girad last year and conducted a five-day shoot at various spots around the dargah. The team secured proper permission from the sub-divisional officer (SDO) for filming. During the shoot, the crew reportedly stayed at Jamb, a village near Hinganghat, 25 km from the location. The film's visuals of the dargah, open fields, and school in the background now stand out in the trailer, which has gone viral amid heated political reactions. Amid mounting backlash, cultural affairs minister Ashish Shelar has taken a firm stand. Talking to TOI, Shelar said, "Distortion of history is absolutely unacceptable. We've written to the Union ministry of information and broadcasting to re-examine the film and reconsider the certificate issued by Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)." He also questioned how the film passed review and added that an investigation will be conducted into how it was selected for Cannes Film Festival, raising concerns about possible procedural lapses. According to platforms like News Bharati, which is 'loosely' linked to Sangh Parivar, the film falsely claims 35% of Shivaji Majaraj's army was Muslim, and erroneously depicts a mosque on Raigad Fort, which is an assault on the Maratha warrior's legacy.
