Miley Cyrus fans outraged after Hannah Montana star reveals shocking ban imposed by Disney

Daily Maila day ago

has revealed that she was barred from performing Hannah Montana songs after leaving Disney.
In a candid interview on the Every Single Album podcast, the 32-year-old pop icon confirmed a long-suspected fan theory that she was prohibited from singing any music from her Disney Channel days.
'After I left Disney, I wasn't allowed to perform any of the Hannah Montana music. It's not like I wanted to, I mean, performing 'The Best of Both Worlds' between 'We Can't Stop,' and 'Wrecking Ball' wouldn't have really made sense,' the singer said.
'But it was still sad knowing those songs have my voice, my face, and I wasn't allowed to sing them.
'But after being inducted as a Disney Legend, I was given permission to perform those songs in the future, which is pretty cool.'
Fans on Reddit were shocked to learn the Flowers hitmaker was banned from singing her own songs.
'Not The Mouse keeping Best of Both Worlds from us,' someone joked.
'That's wild because it would mean she was the only person on the planet who couldn't (since you don't need permission to make your own covers of songs, whereas you do need a license to use someone else's recording),' a person observed.
Another added: 'If she went on a Hannah tour I would hand my money over so fast. To this day I remember how heartbroken I was that I never got to see her in person, I loved her.'
'I would love to see her do a Super Bowl halftime show including Best of Both Worlds,' someone suggested.
'I can't imagine what it feels like to come full circle and sing these songs while holding all of the power. She deserves this,' another user praised.
'Disney's control over its talent is wild. She deserved more creative freedom,' a person said of the company.
'This is crazy! I didn't know she wasn't allowed. I ADORE Hannah Montana's music so I hope we get to hear her perform them live in the future!!' a stunned fan wrote.
A person simply wrote: 'Disney sucks for that.'
DailyMail.com has contacted Disney for comment.
The restriction was lifted after Cyrus was honored as a Disney Legend in August 2024, making her the youngest-ever recipient of the award.
The award is presented to a Disney Legend, an individual who has significantly influenced the company and left their mark on the industry.
During her emotional acceptance speech at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, she reflected on her journey with Disney.
Miley dedicated the award to her alter ego Hannah Montana from the hit Disney Channel series that ran from 2006 to 2011.
Speaking of her breakthrough role she said: 'I had gotten a taste of what my life could be, and from that moment on, I did not want anything else.
'A little bit of everything has changed... but at the same time, nothing has changed at all. I stand here still proud to have been Hannah Montana,' she said.
Later in her speech, she said: 'In so many ways, this award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dream a reality. To quote the legend herself, "This is the life."'
Miley recently surprised a small audience at a TikTok-hosted event by performing 'The Climb' live for the first time in years, per People.
The performance was part of a listening party for her new album, Something Beautiful, and was met with an emotional response from fans.
'I'm not singing 'The Climb' but I could,' she teased in a TikTok of the moment.
Her pianist Michael Pollack started playing the chords and she started to belt out the lyrics.
Briefly, she stopped to ask the crowd, 'Is that the right word?' and 'Do you know the chorus?'
As she finished and the crowd applauded, Miley said her drummer and boyfriend Maxx Morando had 'been waiting since middle school to play that song.'
