Jayson Werth had the wildest outfit at the 2025 Kentucky Derby
Jayson Werth had the wildest outfit at the 2025 Kentucky Derby Former baseball player Jayson Werth is no stranger to the festivities at Churchill Downs in Kentucky. The 2008 World Series champ had a horse in last year's race and is co-owner of Flying Mohawk in 2025's Kentucky Derby. His horse has relatively long odds to win on Saturday evening -- Flying Mohawk currently sits at 28-1 odds -- but Werth is dressed for the affair. Werth went bold with his look, pairing a black suit with bright green trim with bright green accessories and a top hat. He, of course, tied it all together with his signature beard and long hair. The lime green matched Flying Mohawk's jockey, Joe Ramos -- the youngest jockey in the field at 25 years old -- who also donned the bright color for his jersey. People both loved and had jokes about Werth's flamboyant look. The Kentucky Derby gets underway at 7 p.m. ET.

How Secretariat won the 2025 Kentucky Derby 3 decades after his death
How Secretariat won the 2025 Kentucky Derby 3 decades after his death More than 50 years after Secretariat's historic Kentucky Derby run — and more than 30 years since his death — the famed thoroughbred will be responsible for the winner of the 151st Run for the Roses on Saturday. Each one of the 19 horses in the 2025 Kentucky Derby is a direct descendant of Secretariat, which shouldn't be that surprising. The stallion has more than 600 registered foals. Per the Louisville Courier Journal: While it sounds impressive, more often than not, if you go back six generations in most horses, you'll find they're a descendant of some great, like Secretariat or Northern Dancer. "It's one of those stats," Derby contending trainer Whit Beckman said. "It's bound to happen at some point with how much he shows up in every single pedigree. It's really cool. Very cool." You can trace the lineage of each horse competing on Saturday though websites like Bloodhorse. There are a couple other familiar names with big ties to this year's race, too. American Promise is the progeny of Triple Crown-winner Justify. Publisher and Luxor Cafe are the progenies of Triple Crown-winner American Pharoah. Tiztastic is the progeny of Tiz The Law. But they all go back to Big Red. So congrats to Secretariat, who will end the day as a proud papa no matter who wins the Kentucky Derby.

Which horse is Jayson Werth's in the Kentucky Derby?
Which horse is Jayson Werth's in the Kentucky Derby? When the 2025 Kentucky Derby gets underway on Saturday evening, there will be one horse with elite baseball pedigree. No, Flying Mohawk can't play baseball (we don't think). Instead, the horse is co-owned by former MLB player Jayson Werth. Werth, who was on the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies World Series Champion team, isn't new to the horse racing game. He previously co-owned the horse Dornoch, which won 2024's Belmont Stakes and finished 10th in the 2024 Kentucky Derby. The former Nationals star has jumped head-first into horse racing, despite a learning curve. 'But this sport that I knew nothing about, it's fascinating, it's addicting," he told The Athletic. "The people are incredible, and the animals are majestic. I love it. I love everything about it.'' Flying Mohawk currently has 27-1 odds in tonight's race.
