Revolution sign M Matt Polster to new deal through 2027
The 31-year-old has been with New England since 2020, following stints with the Chicago Fire (2015-18) and the Scottish club Rangers FC (2019-20).
"It's an incredible honor to sign on for another chapter with this club, one that has meant so much to me and my family over the past 5 1/2 years," Polster said in a statement. "I'm deeply grateful to the Krafts and the entire New England Revolution organization for their continued belief in me and for giving me the opportunity to keep doing what I love.
"To the fans -- thank you for your years of unwavering support and love. I'm looking forward to continuing this journey with you. Soccer has always been my passion and to pursue it in a place that has become home is something I don't take for granted. I'm proud of how far we've come, yet more motivated than ever to help this club bring a championship to New England."
A defensive midfielder, Polster has scored 10 goals and added one assist in his 225 MLS games (202 starts). He has one goal through eight matches this season, scoring on his only shot on target.
"For the past 5 1/2 years, Matt Polster has been a cornerstone of the New England Revolution, bringing unmatched leadership, relentless dedication, and fiery intensity to our club," Revs sporting director Curt Onalfo said in a statement. "It has been a privilege to witness Matt's remarkable growth as both a player and a leader during his time with us. We are thrilled for him to continue his journey here in New England, driving our team toward the ultimate goal of hoisting trophies."
Polster made one appearance for the U.S. men's national team in a 2018 friendly.

NFL rookie Desmond Watson has been brutally informed that he must lose weight before he gets a chance out on the field for Tampa Bay. 'It's just about trying to get him better, to be a healthier player and get him on the field more,' Bowles said. 'That's where I'm at right now. He's working at it and we're working with him and that's all you can ask.' 'We have some things in mind with him, where we want to see him at,' Bowles said. 'He's made some progress. . . . I don't have a timetable on what we can get him down to or when that comes.' As it stands, Watson remains a long shot to earn a spot on the 53-player roster for the regular season.

Paramount will become the new home to all UFC events in the US under 7-year deal with TKO Group
Paramount will become the new home to all Ultimate Fighting Championship events in the U.S. under a seven-year agreement with TKO Group announced on Monday. Under the deal, Paramount will to exclusively distribute the UFC's full slate of its 13 marquee numbered events and 30 'Fight Nights' on its streaming platform Paramount+ — with select numbered events also set to simulcast on CBS — starting in 2026. It's a shift away from the UFC's existing pay-per-view model, which Paramount and TKO say will allow the mixed martial arts programming reach more consumers nationwide. The seven-year deal has an average annual value of $1.1 billion, the companies said Monday. Paramount, now owned by Skydance, also said it intends to explore UFC rights outside the U.S. 'as they become available in the future.'

Yu Darvish, Padres renew acquaintances with Giants in big series
August 11 - A postseason-type pitching matchup will get the ball rolling on a three-game series with potential playoff ramifications when Yu Darvish and the San Diego Padres take on Logan Webb and the host San Francisco Giants on Monday. The Padres (66-52) will enter the series seven games up on the Giants (59-59) in their duel for second place in the National League West. San Diego heads into the final 44 games of the season in the second NL wild-card spot. The Giants are four games behind the New York Mets, who currently reside in the third and final postseason position. The Padres and Giants have seven games remaining, all in the next 11 days. The clubs will meet in San Diego next Monday through Thursday. In his past two starts, Darvish (1-3, 6.51 ERA) allowed a total of three runs and five hits over 11 innings in San Diego wins over the Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks. The five-time All-Star right-hander seems to have found a rhythm after a late start to the season due to elbow inflammation. He was shredded for 17 runs in 16 2/3 innings in four starts before turning things around of late. Just the sight of Darvish on the mound has been uplifting, Padres manager Mike Shildt told reporters last week. "You got a guy with (204) career professional wins that is out there with that experience (and) there's leadership that takes place on the field, too," Shildt said. "So it's very comforting to see him back." Darvish was on the injured list when the Padres swept a two-game home series against the Giants in April. The teams since split a four-game series in San Francisco in June. He has not fared well against the Giants in his career, going 2-3 with a 5.89 ERA in 12 starts. Webb (10-8, 3.24) pitched in both previous series against the Padres, suffering the loss in a 7-4 defeat at San Diego on April 29 before getting a no-decision following eight shutout innings in a 1-0, 10-inning setback in San Francisco on June 2. The two-time All-Star right-hander has gone 4-4 with a 2.98 in 16 games, including 15 starts, in his career against San Diego. Webb will be tasked with lifting the Giants from one of their lowest points of the season, an 8-0 drubbing at the hands of the Washington Nationals on Sunday. With his team having lost 4-2 to the National League East's last-place club on Saturday, Giants manager Bob Melvin admitted afterward he expected a spirited effort before a big crowd with a chance to win a series and roll into the San Diego showdown.
