In a rare and revealing interview with YouTuber Kim Java, Tesla co-founder Martin Eberhard opened up about the early days of the electric car company—and offered some sharp commentary on Elon Musk , the man who would eventually become its most recognizable face.Recounting how the company got its iconic name, Eberhard shared an unexpectedly charming anecdote. 'The idea of Tesla came to me because I was thinking about the motor I wanted to use. It came to me while I was on a date with a woman who became my wife,' he said. The couple were dining at the Blue Bayou restaurant inside Disneyland, overlooking the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. It was there, amidst candlelight and creaky boat rides, that the name Tesla sparked to life.'Naming a company is difficult,' Eberhard reflected. 'I had thought of a lot of lame names that I didn't like.' But Tesla, a nod to the legendary inventor Nikola Tesla , struck the perfect balance between heritage and futuristic promise.Eberhard founded Tesla Motors in July 2003, long before Elon Musk entered the frame. Musk joined as an investor and became chairman of the board in 2004, later taking the reins of the company. While Musk is widely credited with catapulting Tesla into a global brand, Eberhard's foundational role is often overlooked in public narratives.That erasure, however, hasn't gone unnoticed by Eberhard. In the interview, he noted with subtle but pointed sarcasm, 'I've been out of the company since the end of 2007 and yet every now and then he [Musk] decides to attack me again on some social media platform—or even on the stage at TED, he's done that—which is kind of weird.'In what seemed like a mic-drop moment, Eberhard added with a smirk: 'Somebody pointed out that I'm still occupying real estate in his head. Which is kind of funny when you think about it.'Eberhard didn't just dish on Tesla's origin story and his dynamic with Musk. He also weighed in on today's hottest tech topic—Artificial Intelligence. When asked if he uses tools like Grok or ChatGPT , he responded plainly, 'No.'He elaborated that he had 'fooled around' with the tools but found the experience 'disappointing.' According to him, ChatGPT would answer with complete confidence—even when it was wrong. 'I find this to be dangerous,' he said, emphasizing the risks of AI confidently providing incorrect information on topics the user might not fully understand.When asked whether reconciliation with Musk was ever on the cards, Eberhard shut down the possibility. 'No, I don't think so. No, I can't imagine how that would happen from either one of us. He's pretty set in his ways.'

Apple has reportedly assembled a team to build an AI-powered app akin to ChatGPT, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports. Reportedly called Answers Knowledge Information AKI team is working on building an 'AI answer engine' capable of using the information from across the web to answer questions posed to it. This feature could be in a standalone app or provide search capability to Siri, Safari, and other Apple products. Gurman states that Apple is notably behind when it comes to artificial intelligence, and some of its leaders have even expressed skepticism at integrating ChatGPT-style search. The privacy issues surrounding OpenAI's platform has also meant Apple may be interested in a more personalized, Apple-made answer engine. The new 'answers engine' that Apple is reportedly building, could either be a standalone app. It is more likely to offer search capabilities to Siri, Safari, and other Apple products. The tech giant is actively hiring for this team, as seen on its recent job listings, with Apple specifically looking for candidates with experience with Safari search algorithms and engine development. It's worth noting that Apple is not yet on the conversational AI warpath that some other tech giants are, in which they are recruiting AI talent and paying them insane amounts of money to switch companies. Metal has reportedly been poaching top AI talent and adding them to its Super Intelligence Labs with upwards of $100 million on a multi-year deal. It's unknown as to whether Apple will be just as aggressive with its own recruiting.

DNPA told the Delhi High Court that if OpenAI continues to use news content without compensation, physical and digital media may vanish, leaving only ChatGPT functioning New Delhi The Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) on Tuesday told the Delhi High Court that physical newspapers and online news portals would soon disappear and only OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT would remain operational if large language model (LLM) makers continue to scrape and use content created by newsrooms without any revenue accruing to them. "Physical newspaper circulation has come down drastically. Physical newspapers are disappearing, digital news will disappear, and only ChatGPT will remain. It reduces my incentive to publish," Senior Advocate Rajshekhar Rao, appearing for DNPA, told Justice Amit Bansal of the Delhi High Court. The DNPA's submissions were made in the ongoing hearing of the copyright and illegal content usage case filed by Asian News International (ANI) against OpenAI. DNPA, which represents several print and digital media organisations in the country, argued that the moment ChatGPT picks up information from the public domain to train its LLM—without the consent of the news organisation—it amounts to copyright infringement. "Storage of an infringing copy itself is infringing. Even if you store it for a transient moment, you are infringing. You cannot use my copyright without my licence," Rao said. He added that even for research purposes, OpenAI must acquire a lawful copy first. "...You have to buy SCC Online to be able to crack it in the privacy of your home for research purposes," he told the court. In the last hearing, intervenors had argued that ANI and ChatGPT were each other's competitors. 'If I ask who the CM of Jammu and Kashmir is, I will get an answer from ChatGPT as well as ANI.
