New affordable housing project in Seattle announced, dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr.
Habitat for Humanity unveiled its largest single-building, multi-family project thus far on Thursday, and it'll be located right here in Western Washington.
The Liberty Commons Project will be located on Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Seattle's Columbia City neighborhood. It will include 58 affordable housing units.
Martin Luther King Jr.'s daughter, Dr. Bernice King, was in town for the announcement. She was a part of a panel at the Northwest African American Museum.
'My father understood that civil right — safe and affordable housing,' said Dr. Bernice King, highlighting how her father was an instrumental leader in the fight for affordable housing.
The project, in addition to helping dozens of families, will be dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

You can engrave your name on a paver, write a nice message, honor a loved one, whatever it is that you want to do. You have an opportunity to be part of this project, too.' Habitat for Humanity has a goal of $60,000 to complete the initiative. The pavers are designed to help prevent over 500,000 gallons of stormwater runoff per year. Henderson, Habitat launch $1 million partnership to eliminate blight
HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – Henderson and Habitat for Humanity of Henderson announced a five-year partnership aimed at eliminating blighted properties within city limits and creating more opportunities for affordable housing. City leaders state the Blight Elimination Program will invest $1 million over the five years with the city contributing $100,000 annually. Leaders explain this doubles the amount of money allocated by the city in the past for blighted property elimination, and Habitat will match the investment, bringing additional new resources to neighborhoods that have long struggled with blighted properties. The partnership is a result of the city's Inner-City Improvement Plan. Leaders state once a property is acquired through the program, Habitat will have a minimum of four years to build a home on the site, ensuring a steady pace of neighborhood transformation while allowing flexibility based on need. 'This partnership represents a bold investment in the future of Henderson,' said Mayor Brad Staton. 'Thanks to the leadership of Habitat for Humanity and the momentum of our Inner City Improvement Plan, we're not just removing what's broken—we're building something better. This funding commitment is double what we typically spend each year, and that's what it takes to make a real difference.' Two joint committees will oversee the process will be established. Officials say these groups will help field questions, guide decision-making and evaluate potential interest from local developers.
