Amaarae has shared a new single from Black Star, the Fountain Baby follow-up arriving next month. 'Girlie-Pop!' comes with a sensual video directed by Omar Jones. Check it out below.
In a press release, Amaarae said, ''Girlie-Pop!' started as a freestyle over an open guitar on a magical night in Brazil! I wanted to make a song that embodies the feeling of a kiss from your favorite person in the world. We all dream of finding that one person who sends us into the stars with just a smile and peck on the lips! The Black Star album is all about fun and fantasy! I want 'Girlie-Pop!' to be the soundtrack for when you sit and day dream about your crush.'
Black Star arrives August 8, via Interscope, and also features the Ghanaian highlife–inspired single 'S.M.O.' Last year, Amaarae released a stopgap EP, Roses Are Red, Tears Are Blue — A Fountain Baby Extended Play.

Watch pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter, aged 10, cosplaying Axl Rose to cover Guns N' Roses' Sweet Child O' Mine

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Regardless of how fanatical and undiluted your love of rock and metal is, you cannot possibly be unaware of the existence of pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter. A former Disney TV star, the 26-year-old singer's 2024's album Short n' Sweet, topped the national charts in no fewer than 18 countries, and included three UK number one singles: her upcoming seventh album, Man's Best Friend, is due on August 29, has already yielded one UK/US chart-topper in the form of single Manchild. Basically, she's kinda a big deal. But before international superstardom beckoned, Carpenter, like almost every 'overnight success' in the music industry, worked for years honing her craft. And as part of her musical education, she was schooled in classic rock - Queen, The Beatles, Rush, Guns N' Roses, Ozzy Osbourne and more - by her father David. "The Trees is the longest song I've ever heard," the singer joked to Rolling Stone earlier this year about Rush's classic single from 1978's Hemispheres album. "I heard it my whole childhood." Remarkably, there's no shortage of visual evidence of Carpenter's early years in existence online. Want to see her perform The Beatles' Come Together, back in 2009? Here you go. Wonder what she sounded like, aged 12, channelling her inner Prince Of Darkness? Wonder no more. Ah yes, you cry, but I bet she wouldn't have dared try to emulate Axl Rose's distinctive vocals, by covering a Guns N' Roses classic? But that's where you're wrong, friend. Behold, Sabrina Carpenter, aged 10, and her cover of Sweet Child O' Mine. If, by chance, hearing this has made you wonder what other unusual or unheralded covers of this Gn'R classic exist out there on the World Wide Web, here are 10 of the most interesting covers of Sweet Child... , ranging across the musical spectrum from jazz to house, ska to goth, electro to metalcore. Amaarae Ascends on Boundless 'BLACK STAR'

Summary Amaarae's star has been one to watch for a while now, initially inviting an influx of eyes with breakout single 'Fluid' in 2017. Almost ten years later, the Ghanaian-American's artistry is still guided by her fluidity – in genre, gender, style, and sonic composition – possibly more now than ever before, shining through her third studio album,BLACK STAR. Across the enamouring 13-track album, Amaarae takes the sounds of her Ghanaian upbringing global, amalgamating amapiano and Afrobeats, among other local subgenres – ghettotech, house, techno, and baile funk included. Her internet era come-up is also strung throughout the album, hypnotic synths and dreamy dance breaks hitting right when needed. In Amaarae's own words, the diaspora-transcending LP is an ode to the alternative youth of Ghana. 'This era is about vindication—for myself and my community,' she asserts. 'Golden' from 'KPop Demon Hunters' hits No. 1 on Billboard, surpasses 3 billion streams

"Golden," the soundtrack from Netflix 's "KPop Demon Hunters" by the fictional K-pop girl group Huntr/x, has reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Performed by EJAE, Audrey Nuna and REI AMI, the track makes history as the first No. 1 Hot 100 hit by a female K-pop group, with nearly 32 million streams, 7,000 sales, and 8.4 million radio airplay impressions in the United States, according to Billboard. The track also continues to climb the charts for a seventh straight week, with over 3 billion global streams to date, "reclaiming #2 on the Billboard 200, and continuing to be the highest charting soundtrack of the year," according to a press release. This achievement also marks the first fictional act to top the chart since Encanto and the first female group to do so since Destiny's Child in 2001. The soundtrack also claims the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Soundtracks chart, dominating for a seventh week. The "KPop Demon Hunters" soundtrack continues to hold steady at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, recording its best week yet with 100,000 equivalent album units. The album, associated with the animated action-fantasy film of the same title, has grown in popularity each week since its release. Premiered on June 20, the action-packed film follows a world-renowned K-pop girl group balancing their lives in the spotlight with their secret identities as demon hunters. The film has become a global streaming sensation on Netflix, with 158.8 million views since its debut, ranking among the streamer's most popular titles ever. It's been in the Netflix Top 10 for seven weeks, according to Variety. Knowing how important the soundtrack would be, directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans collaborated with experienced K-pop producers. "Because we wanted the music to be really incredible and really speak to the K-pop fans and be legitimately fit into the K-pop space, we felt that it was important to partner with a Korean label," Kang said during a Netflix press interview, per BBC.
