Egypt's Al-Sisi meets Bohra Sultan, discusses cooperation, regional role

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received Sultan Mufaddal Saifuddin, the Sultan of the Dawoodi Bohra community based in India, along with his sons Prince Jaafar us Sadiq Imaduddin, Prince Taha Najmuddin, and Prince Husain Burhanuddin, the presidency spokesperson stated.
The meeting, held in Cairo on Monday, was also attended by Mufaddal Mohammed, the Sultan's representative in the city.
According to the spokesperson, President Sisi welcomed Sultan Mufaddal Saifuddin and praised the deep historical relations between Egypt and the Bohra community. The President commended the appreciated efforts undertaken by the community in restoring and renovating Ahl al-Bayt (Prophet Muhammad's family) shrines and several historic Egyptian mosques.
Al-Sisi noted that these efforts complement the Egyptian state's endeavours in development and the refurbishment of historic Cairo. He also praised the developmental and charitable projects carried out by the community in Egypt, in partnership with the Tahya Misr (Long Live Egypt) Fund.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the Egyptian Presidency spokesperson, added that Sultan Mufaddal expressed his deep gratitude for the warm reception he received during his visits to Egypt. He conveyed his particular appreciation for President Sisi's consistent readiness to receive him.
The Sultan praised the continuous development efforts and comprehensive progress witnessed in Egypt across various fields, alongside the consolidation of the principles of citizenship and tolerance.
The spokesperson further stated that Sultan Mufaddal valued the leading role Egypt plays in the region to enhance peace, security, and stability. He noted Egypt's tireless efforts to de-escalate situations in regional countries, highlighting its endeavours to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

CAIRO, June 10 (MENA) – President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi signed Law no. 85 of 2025, amending some provisions of the House of Representatives Law no. 46 of 2014, and Law no. 174 of 2020 regarding the division of electoral constituencies for the House of Representatives elections. The amendments stipulate that Egypt is to be divided into a number of constituencies designated for individual candidacy (individual-seat system) and four constituencies designated for the party-list system. As for the party-list system, it includes a four list-based constituencies; two constituencies are allocated 40 seats each and two constituencies are allocated 102 seats each. Regarding requirements for electoral lists: each list must include the exact number of candidates matching the number of seats required in that constituency and an equal number of substitute candidates. With regard to the 40-seat list, it must include at least three Christian candidates, two candidates who are workers or farmers, two youth candidates, one candidate with a disability, one candidate from Egyptians residing abroad, at least 20 women, whether or not they belong to the above categories. Regarding the 102-seat list, it must include at least nine Christian candidates, six candidates who are workers or farmers, six youth candidates, three candidates with disabilities, three candidates from Egyptians residing abroad and at least 51 women, whether or not they belong to the above categories. Concerning the individual candidacy (individual-seat system), candidates running in individual constituencies must submit a written nomination request to the Election Oversight Committee at the Primary Court in the governorate they wish to represent. They submit their nomination within a period set by the National Elections Authority, the body responsible for managing and supervising the electoral process, which must not be less than five days from the date of the candidate nomination window opens. CAIRO, June 10 (MENA) – President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi signed Law no. 84 of 2025, amending some provisions of the Senate Law, which was issued by Law no. 141 of 2020. The amendments stipulate that Egypt shall be divided into 27 constituencies allocated for elections as per the individual-seat system, and four constituencies allocated for elections through the list-based system. As for the four list-based constituencies, two shall be allocated 13 seats each, and the other two shall be allocated 37 seats each. Each 13-seat list must include at least three women, while each 37-seat list must include at least seven women, to ensure the representation of women in the electoral process. The law has been published in the official gazette out Tuesday. (MENA)
