Cameron Hanekom: I don't want to disappoint Marcell

The Citizen23-04-2025

Veteran Vodacom Bulls loose forward Marcell Coetzee has inspired young gun Cameron Hanekom to take his game to another level.
Hanekom has made a name for himself as a brilliant ball-carrying No 8 who is a serious poaching threat at the breakdown, a skill the 22-year-old has honed in his short but impactful career.
'You only get a split second to decide whether to go for it or to fold to keep width on defence,' Hanekom said yesterday. 'I've made some silly mistakes in the past, when I went into too many rucks and didn't get rewarded for it. When I do go into a ruck, I have the confidence to give it my absolute best. I can't go into it half-half.'
Hanekom said he didn't want his defensive contribution to be limited to the breakdown and that he had worked hard to improve his tackling.
'If I play with a guy like Marcell, who makes 31 tackles in game [against Munster last Saturday] then I need to raise my game so I don't disappoint him. He's a good role model.
'Tackling has been my biggest work-on. There were a couple games where I wasn't good enough in that area and I've worked hard to be more consistent.'
STATE OF THE URC: Bulls rumble into Glasgow for revenge
Hanekom said he is looking forward to Friday night's Vodacom URC match against defending champions Glasgow and the loose-trio battle in particular.
The Warriors are without South African flank Henco Venter, serving a six-week suspension for foul play, but still able to field a strong back row comprised of Scotland flanks Matt Fagerson and Rory Darge, and Tonga No 8 Sione Vailanu.
'They've played international rugby so it's going to be a good match-up,' said Hanekom. 'Marcell and I are always up for a challenge, we want to play against those big names. That's who you want to get measured against. So we're definitely going to go out there and try to prove a point.'

HUGE update given on Sipho Mbule to Kaizer Chiefs transfer!

Kaizer Chiefs are scouring the market in search of quality players to help them improve their squad for next season. Chiefs had a divisive season last campaign, having won the Nedbank Cup but finished out of the top 8. Chiefs set for jam packed season The finishing outside the top eight was particularly concerning for Chiefs as it was the second consecutive season. That also means they failed to qualify for next season's MTN8 seeing them have one less trophy to complete for. But on the other side, their Nedbank Cup victory sees them qualify for continental football. Amakhosi will be back in Africa for the first time since the 2020/21 season when they reached the CAF Champions League final. In the 2025/26 season Chiefs will play in the CAF Confederation Cup in what could be a busy season. They will have to balance the travelling and playing on the continent with playing local competitions. In order to do this, they will need quality squad depth but they will have to be clever on the market too. Already they're set to completed two free agent signings in Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane from Orlando Pirates. That could end up being the theme of the window with all the quality free agents available. Agent confirms Mbile offered to Amakhosi Now according to agent Mike Makaab he has also offered his client Sipho Mbule to Chiefs heading to next season. 'Let me set the record straight. Sipho Mbule has been offered to Kaizer Chiefs. It is up to the club to make the decision and we need to respect that decision.' Makaab wrote on his X account. After making it public, Makaab has now shown the Chiefs fans that the ball is in their court regards Mbule. Amakhosi were rumoured to have had an interest in the playmaker at the start of the previous season. It was thought that Mamelodi Sundowns offered them both Mbule and Terrance Mashego. Should the club take a chance on him? Chiefs fans should your club management take the risk and sign Mbule? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab. Marioné Fourie delivers powerful finish to take second in Hengelo

Marioné Fourie delivered a storming push at the death to finish second by one-hundredth of a second behind Dutch star Nadine Visser in the women's 100m hurdles at the FBK Games at Hengelo, the Netherlands. At the halfway point she was well back of Visser, fourth at the Paris Olympics last year, but the South African switched on the after-burners over the final three hurdles to rocket up the field. Fourie dipped on the line, her effort causing her to lose balance and she tumbled to the ground, but it wasn't enough to catch Visser, first in 12.59sec.

Best Kaizer Chiefs XI next season with Salum and Appollis

Kaizer Chiefs need to add marquee names in several positions to become Betway Premiership title contenders next season. So far, Feisal Salum is the most eye-catching player linked with a move to Naturena. Recently, Bafana wingers Oswin Appollis and Elias Mokwana are also back in the conversation. Chiefs shift focus to signing a key Orlando Pirates target Bvuma; Solomons, Msimango, Miguel, Dortley; Cele, Salum; Duba, Appollis, Lilepo; Mayele. Chiefs have reportedly ditched their interest in Bafana and Esperance winger Elias Mokwana. Instead, their eggs are all in the Oswin Appollis basket. 'If you were talking about Appollis, I could have agreed with you. It's also an open secret that Chiefs are interested in him. The negotiations are believed to also be at an advanced stage as there are a few logistics they are working on, but not Elias Mokwana,' an insider told Soccer Laduma. Although Kaizer Chiefs endured a mostly frustrating campaign, they did end their long trophy drought by lifting the Nedbank Cup. To make it sweeter, they beat Orlando Pirates to do so. Nasreddine Nabi's next challenge will be to turn this side into legitimate title contenders. After all, this is a man who won back-to-back trebles in Tanzania. His allure could prove strong enough to see Feisal Salum make a move from Azam FC. Click for the story Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi.
