Aon names new CEO of Global Solutions

Global professional services company Aon has appointed Andy Marcell as its new CEO of Global Solutions. In this role, Marcell will oversee Aon's integrated Risk Capital and Human Capital capabilities, encompassing the organization's reinsurance, commercial risk, health, wealth and talent teams. Marcell, who joined Aon in 2015, will continue to serve as CEO of Reinsurance until John Neal assumes the position on 1 September 2025. Aon named Neal as the global chairman of Climate Solutions and global CEO of its Reinsurance arm in January this year. Marcell will report to Aon president and CEO Greg Case and remain a member of the Aon Executive Committee, the company said. Case said: "Building integrated capabilities to help our clients address risk and people issues is one of the core commitments of our 3x3 Plan to go further, faster in serving urgent client need. 'Andy has made a tremendous impact integrating our solutions and enhancing the alignment of our Risk Capital and Human Capital capabilities and will advance our strategy to serve clients as one Aon United firm." Marcell's promotion follows his tenure as CEO of Risk Capital, where he unified the company's commercial risk and Reinsurance solutions. He will present the company's strategy for addressing client needs across both Risk Capital and Human Capital at its Investor Day on 9 June 2025. Last month, Aon named Lambros Lambrou, CEO of Human Capital, as its new global chief strategy officer. Marcell stated: "Lambros and the Human Capital leadership team have made tremendous progress integrating our Health, Wealth and Talent teams to deliver differentiated data, insights and expertise. 'I am looking forward to bringing our Risk Capital and Human Capital teams closer together to address the unprecedented volatility and complexity facing our clients." Aon appoints Andy Marcell to serve as CEO of Global Solutions

DUBLIN, /CNW/ -- Aon plc (NYSE: AON), a leading global professional services firm, announced today that the firm has appointed Andy Marcell to serve as CEO of Global Solutions. As CEO of Global Solutions, Marcell now leads Aon's integrated Risk Capital and Human Capital capabilities across the firm's Reinsurance, Commercial Risk, Health, Wealth and Talent teams. Marcell will remain as CEO of Reinsurance until John Neal joins Aon on September 1, 2025, and continue to report to Aon President and CEO Greg Case and serve on the Aon Executive Committee. "Building integrated capabilities to help our clients address risk and people issues is one of the core commitments of our 3x3 Plan to go further, faster in serving urgent client need," said Case. "Andy has made a tremendous impact integrating our solutions and enhancing the alignment of our Risk Capital and Human Capital capabilities and will advance our strategy to serve clients as one Aon United firm." Marcell, who joined Aon in 2015, most recently served as CEO of Risk Capital, where he successfully brought together the firm's Commercial Risk and Reinsurance solutions. Earlier this month, Aon announced that Lambros Lambrou, previously CEO of Human Capital, now serves as global Chief Strategy Officer, and the firm is conducting a comprehensive search for a successor to lead Human Capital. "Lambros and the Human Capital leadership team have made tremendous progress integrating our Health, Wealth and Talent teams to deliver differentiated data, insights and expertise," said Marcell. "I'm looking forward to bringing our Risk Capital and Human Capital teams closer together to address the unprecedented volatility and complexity facing our clients." Last month, Aon released the firm's Client Trends 2025 report, featuring new insights about the interconnectedness of four megatrends – Trade, Technology, Weather and Workforce – driving complexity, volatility and uncertainty for business and society. The second edition of this report highlights how the interconnectedness of these trends necessitates access to integrated data and analytics, capabilities and expertise to effectively respond to increasingly linked risk and people issues. Marcell will present at the firm's upcoming Investor Day on June 9, 2025, where he will speak to the firm's integrated approach to serving clients across Risk Capital and Human Capital. Moment of truth for three SA teams in URC quarterfinals

South Africa's three United Rugby Championship (URC) quarterfinalists face their biggest task of the season as they line up against top opposition this weekend. The Stormers arguably face the toughest task of them all as they travel to Scotland to face the defending champions, Glasgow Warriors, on Friday. The Bulls and Sharks will have the luxury of home ground advantage against Edinburgh in Pretoria and Munster in Durban. With the playoff stages wrapped up, there will be no room for error as all three teams eye semifinal places. The Bulls, runners up in 2022 and 2024, will secure themselves a home semifinal if they emerge victorious, which will fuel their motivation immensely as they cast an eye further ahead as they attempt to reach the Grand Final for the second season in a row. The Stormers will have unfinished business in their clash against the Warriors after suffering a defeat against them at Cape Town Stadium in the league stages — their third straight loss against the Scottish team, with the Cape side having last managed to win this encounter in 2022. Inside the Monday morning gym session with Marcell 😅 never a dull moment 🔥 Prep is going well & we can't wait to see everyone at LOFTUS this weekend for our VURC Quarter Final clash against Edinburgh 🏆 🗓️ 31 May | ⏰ 13:30 | 📍LOFTUS 🎟️TICKETS ➡️ … — Official Blue Bulls (@BlueBullsRugby) May 26, 2025 That the Stormers have won their last four URC games in a row will bolster their confidence, while Glasgow have lost their last three matches and will certainly look to bounce back. The Warriors will draw inspiration from winning seven out of nine of their home matches this season, but the Stormers will draw comfort that three of those victories were by three points or fewer. Glasgow have only won one more match than the Stormers this season, but the South Africans boast a better attacking record, with 39 more points scored than the opposition in their 18 pool matches. Glasgow have the second-best defensive record, with 17 fewer tries conceded than their opponents. However, history has proven that anything can happen in playoff matches and the team that makes the most of its opportunities can emerge victorious. Quarter-final incoming 💪 Beat the FOMO and get your #SHAvMUN tickets now at or from The Sharks Ticket Office. @vodacom #URC #SHAvMUN — The Sharks (@SharksRugby) May 28, 2025 The matchup between the Bulls and Edinburgh is expected to be hugely competitive, given the close contest between the sides earlier in the season where the Pretoria outfit emerged 22-16 victors at home in the second round. The Scots turned the tables with a 34-28 win in the EPCR Challenge Cup quarterfinal. With seven straight URC victories to their name and the team having suffered only four defeats this season, the Bulls enter the clash as favourites. However, they will be wary of underestimating Edinburgh, who, added to knocking the Bulls out of the Challenge Cup, have had a fair run of form too, losing only one of their last five matches, with one a draw. In fact, their only defeat among those was against the Sharks in Durban by one point. However, Edinburgh will have to enter the match strong-willed to break their disappointing away record, which shows six defeats in nine outings. Etzebeth's return after concussion concerns a boost for Sharks, Boks 'It was good to get that first 80 minutes against Scarlets under the belt.' Sport 1 day ago In stark contrast, the Bulls have suffered only one home defeat in the competition this season. The Pretoria team have won six more games than the Scots in the pool stages and have a better record on attack and defence. At Kings Park, the Sharks will have to lift their quality immensely to come away with a victory and book their first URC semifinal berth when they line up against 2023 champions Munster. This despite the Irish giants having finished the pool stages three places below the Durban side in sixth place. With the Sharks occupying third place and having suffered only one defeat at home this season, many would have punted them as outright favourites. However, they struggled to a 12-3 victory against the Scarlets two weeks ago and were under pressure to deliver a strong second-half performance against Ospreys a week earlier after entering the break 10-3 up. The Sharks will be mindful that Munster have been marginally more effective on attack, though the Durbanites have been better on defence, which will set the scene for a gripping encounter.

Bonded pair of cats finally adopted months after shelter has wedding for them

Marcell and Aspen - two inseparable cats - were dropped off at an animal shelter after their owner died. The pair were back at the same shelter where the owner had adopted them together four years earlier. Marcell and Aspen first arrived separately at the SPCA in Belmont, New York, in 2020. Marcell had been surrendered by his owner, while Aspen was abandoned after her owner was evicted. Subscribe to The Post Most newsletter for the most important and interesting stories from The Washington Post. An elderly man named Bruce adopted both cats in February 2021, said Lynda Pruski, executive director of the shelter. His dog had recently died, Pruski said, and he was 'lonely and depressed.' 'He was looking for mature and friendly, loving cats and he found that in Aspen and Marcell,' she said. When Bruce became ill, his final wish was that the cats return to the shelter as a pair, with hope they could be adopted together again. Bruce's brother brought the cats back to the SPCA in November 2024 after Bruce died. The bond between the cats was strong. 'They were just always together, always touching,' Pruski said. 'You'd always see them sleeping together.' But rehoming two cats at once, Pruski said, can be difficult. 'We weren't getting adopters that were willing to do that,' she said. 'It's really hard for people to adopt a bonded pair.' Adding to the challenge: Marcell was significantly overweight. When he arrived back at the shelter, he was almost 26 pounds - far heavier than the 6 to 16-pound average of domestic shorthairs. 'He's very large, but very, very handsome,' Pruski said, noting that his weight is not because of an underlying health problem. Rather, 'he's a good eater.' Initially, the shelter tried to promote the two feline friends as a package deal, even hosting a wedding for the cats to draw attention. 'We had a great time with it,' Pruski said, adding that Marcell is very cuddly, and Aspen is more reserved. Unfortunately, though, there were still no adopters. Several months passed, and staff at the shelter decided it was time to market the cats separately to improve the odds of finding them homes. 'I'm Marcell, and I'm ready to stride straight into your heart with 23 pounds of pure, unfiltered love,' the shelter wrote in a Facebook post on May 1. 'Aspen and I once thought we were a package deal, and while we would love to be adopted together again, we've come to terms with the idea of going our separate ways if needed. We'll always be friends, but we're open to love in new places.' 'So, what do you say?' the post continues. 'Do you have room in your heart (and on your couch) for a deluxe-sized gentleman like me?' The post took off, with thousands of likes and hundreds of comments. People gushed over Marcell's notable size. 'Look at this chonk,' someone commented. 'NEED BIG CHUNGUS,' someone else wrote. Many commenters begged to keep the pair together. 'You NEED to keep them together. NEED,' someone wrote. 'Losing an owner is traumatic enough, please keep them as a bonded pair!' someone else commented. Many prospective adopters came forward, including several who were willing to take both Marcell and Aspen. Marcell is now 7, and Aspen is 6. Tricia Feuchter, the administrator of Willow Creek - an assisted-living facility in Hinsdale, New York - expressed interest. She had met Marcell and Aspen when she and her daughter went to drop off donations at the shelter earlier this year. 'They're just so cute,' Feuchter said. Willow Creek had previously adopted two cats, Chowder and Ezzy, from the SPCA, 'and it was a great experience,' Feuchter said, explaining that the cats live at the facility and the 32 residents, as well as staff, take care of them together. Feuchter said all residents were on board to adopt the cats, and any time a new person inquires about moving in, they tell them right away. The cats have free roam of the facility, aside from the kitchen. 'The population that we serve doesn't get a lot of visitors, sadly,' Feuchter said. 'These animals are family.' 'We have toys everywhere, all over the place. They sleep in residents' beds,' Feuchter said. 'They get snacks from the residents and sit with them on the couch, and they play with them and hang out.' Given how much the residents appreciate having Chowder and Ezzy around, 'we decided to add a couple more kitties here,' Feuchter said. She put in an application to adopt Marcell and Aspen, and because the two cats previously lived with an older person, Pruski thought it was a natural fit. 'Everybody was really excited,' she said. 'We always wanted to adopt them together.' Marcell and Aspen officially moved in May 8, and they are settling in well - and getting along with Ezzy and Chowder. 'They love life,' Feuchter said. Marcell is continuing his weight-loss journey, and he is down to 21 pounds. In fact, Chowder is on a similar diet, so they're in it together. Chowder weighs about 20 pounds. 'We try to get them together and moving,' Feuchter said. Feuchter said the cats have made a profound difference in residents' lives. 'The residents absolutely love it,' Feuchter said. 'Animal therapy is the best therapy.' Cameron Hanekom: I don't want to disappoint Marcell

Veteran Vodacom Bulls loose forward Marcell Coetzee has inspired young gun Cameron Hanekom to take his game to another level. Hanekom has made a name for himself as a brilliant ball-carrying No 8 who is a serious poaching threat at the breakdown, a skill the 22-year-old has honed in his short but impactful career. 'You only get a split second to decide whether to go for it or to fold to keep width on defence,' Hanekom said yesterday. 'I've made some silly mistakes in the past, when I went into too many rucks and didn't get rewarded for it. When I do go into a ruck, I have the confidence to give it my absolute best. I can't go into it half-half.' Hanekom said he didn't want his defensive contribution to be limited to the breakdown and that he had worked hard to improve his tackling. 'If I play with a guy like Marcell, who makes 31 tackles in game [against Munster last Saturday] then I need to raise my game so I don't disappoint him. He's a good role model. 'Tackling has been my biggest work-on. There were a couple games where I wasn't good enough in that area and I've worked hard to be more consistent.' STATE OF THE URC: Bulls rumble into Glasgow for revenge Hanekom said he is looking forward to Friday night's Vodacom URC match against defending champions Glasgow and the loose-trio battle in particular. The Warriors are without South African flank Henco Venter, serving a six-week suspension for foul play, but still able to field a strong back row comprised of Scotland flanks Matt Fagerson and Rory Darge, and Tonga No 8 Sione Vailanu. 'They've played international rugby so it's going to be a good match-up,' said Hanekom. 'Marcell and I are always up for a challenge, we want to play against those big names. That's who you want to get measured against. So we're definitely going to go out there and try to prove a point.'
