Iran's top diplomat says talks with US 'complicated' by American strike on nuclear sites

Washington Post5 hours ago

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Iran's top diplomat said the possibility of new negotiations with the United States on his country's nuclear program has been 'complicated' by the American attack on three of the sites, which he conceded caused 'serious damage.'
The U.S. was one of the parties to the 2015 nuclear deal in which Iran agreed to limits on its uranium enrichment program in exchange for sanctions relief and other benefits.

Unilateral war won't build a safer world

The debate about the military effectiveness of the U.S. airstrikes against Iran misses a more profound point: Brilliant battlefield success by itself will not ensure a nuclear-free Iran. The U.S. attacks capped a year-plus Israeli campaign that utterly exposed Iran's 'axis of resistance' as a paper tiger. My own guess is that the strikes were highly effective. Uranium enrichment facilities rely on elaborate machinery, steady power supply and structurally sturdy environments. All that is likely to have been compromised by the 14 bunker-buster bombs that hit their targets with precision. But even assuming the damage was severe, most experts I have spoken to estimate that the strikes would have set back Iran's nuclear program by one to two years. By contrast, the Iran nuclear deal finalized in 2015 placed Iran's nuclear program in check for 10 to 15 years.

Fox News Star Defends Colleague Attacked By Pete Hegseth

Brit Hume vigorously defended Fox News colleague Jennifer Griffin after she was attacked by Fox News alum Pete Hegseth at a press conference Thursday. (Watch the video below.) Hegseth, who graduated from the curvy couch of 'Fox & Friends' to defense secretary under President Donald Trump, called Griffin, the network's chief national security correspondent, 'the worst' in distorting Trump's words. On 'America's Newsroom' shortly after the tense exchange in a press conference about the U.S. bombing of Iran nuclear sites, Hume asked anchor Dana Perino for a moment. 'I'd like to say a word if I may, Dana, about Jennifer Griffin, who was attacked by the defense secretary today. An attack she certainly, in my view, did not deserve,' Hume said. 'Her professionalism, her knowledge and her experience at the Pentagon is unmatched, and I have had and still have the greatest regard for her. The attack on her was unfair.' Hegseth was still attempting damage control after an early Pentagon report was leaked that contradicted the president's claim that the bombing mission obliterated Iran's nuclear program. When Griffin asked him about a determination that Iran may have moved its highly enriched uranium before the strike, Hegseth got personal. 'Of course, we're watching every single aspect,' Hegseth replied. 'But Jennifer, you've been about the worst, the one who misrepresents the most intentionally what the president says.' Griffin defended her coverage and said, 'I take issue with that.' She later appeared on 'Fox & Friends,' where she noted that Hegseth came out 'quite so emotionally against the press' before shifting to Iran's retaliatory strike on a U.S. base in Qatar.
