Inclusive film screening brings joy to neurodivergent children in Kolkata
In a moving celebration of inclusion and cinema, the India Autism Center (IAC) hosted a special screening of
Sitaare Zameen Par
for over 200 neurodivergent children and young adults at a city multiplex.
The event brought together participants from IAC and several partner organizations across the city. Designed to be sensory-friendly, the screening featured soft lighting, quiet zones, and the presence of trained volunteers to ensure a comfortable and welcoming environment for all attendees.
Dr Shashi Panja, Hon'ble Minister-in-Charge for Women & Child Development and Social Welfare, Government of West Bengal, attended the event as Chief Guest.
She emphasized the importance of mainstream cultural platforms embracing diversity. 'When popular culture embraces difference, it shifts mindsets. This initiative is a reminder that the language of empathy needs no translation,' she remarked.
Actress Koel Mallick, who joined as Guest of Honor, spent time interacting with the children and shared moments of warmth and encouragement, adding to the joyful atmosphere of the day.
