Mohali: Do away with black spots, DC tells officials
Deputy commissioner Komal Mittal on Sunday directed the officials concerned to take immediate and concrete measures to eliminate accident-prone black spots across the district to prevent road mishaps and ensure smooth traffic flow.
Chairing a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee, she instructed officials of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), municipal corporation and local councils besides PWD and NHAI to prioritise doing away with the black spots and submit action-taken reports before the next meeting.
Calling for stringent action against traffic violators, the deputy commissioner (DC) directed the police, the regional transport officer (RTO) and the district child protection officer to conduct regular checks. Special focus was laid on ensuring that school buses strictly comply with the Safe School Vahan Policy.
RTO Rajpal Singh Sekhon informed the committee that during April and May, 1,352 challans, amounting to ₹59.87 lakh, were issued.
Mittal further emphasised timely uploading of accident details on the E-DAR (Electronic Detailed Accident Report) portal that facilitates faster compensation disbursal through centralised accident reporting, geotagging and data sharing. The police and the hospitals were asked to update the portal promptly to help the Union ministry of road transport and highways effectively identify and address high-risk zones.
Appealing to residents to assist road accident victims without the fear of legalities, the DC reiterated that Good Samaritans are legally protected and eligible for rewards and recognition.
The sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) were directed to expedite pending compensation claims related to hit-and-run cases. As per the scheme, victims' families are entitled to ₹2 lakh in case of a fatality and ₹50,000 for grievous injuries.

Teachers asked to submit joining reports by June 30
Patna: Teachers in state who have been transferred are required submit their joining-related reports by June 30 or risk having their transfers cancelled from July 1. The education department issued a directive on Saturday for all transferred teachers whose new postings have been allotted through the E-Shikshakosh portal. This form must be signed by the headteacher of their newly allotted school and then uploaded – self-attested and countersigned –back onto the portal. Teachers unwilling to join their new postings will be ineligible for voluntary transfer applications for one year. A specific declaration form for such cases is available on the E-Shikshakosh portal and must be uploaded after being signed. The department clarified that these teachers will remain in their current postings until further notice. Teachers currently on leave are not required to be physically present at their new schools. They can complete the joining report, send it to the respective headteacher via email or another appropriate channel and the headteacher will return the countersigned document, marked "on leave", to be uploaded on the portal. A previous letter from the director of primary education stated that out of 26,776 transfer applications received under categories 1 to 6, a total of 26,665 teachers have been allotted schools through the E-Shikshakosh platform.

Lokayukta police arrest two MCC officials on bribery charges
Two officials of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) were caught red-handed by the Lokayukta police while accepting a bribe to process a complainant's application for E-Swathu property ownership documents. A statement from the Lokayukta Superintendent of Police Udesh T.J. said the complainant appeared before the police and reportedly said the Revenue Officer M.N. Nandeesh and Bill Collector Razak of Zone 4 of MCC were demanding a bribe of ₹25,000 to process his E-Swathu application. The sleuths caught the officials red-handed while accepting the bribe, the statement added.

21 officials suspended over ₹40-crore ‘farm scam' in Maharashtra
Twenty-one government officials in Maharashtra's Jalna district have been suspended for allegedly embezzling ₹40 crore meant for farmers affected by climate disasters like drought and heavy rains. Following a five-month probe, 10 village revenue officers (talathis) were suspended on June 13. Another 11 officials were suspended Thursday, said Additional District Magistrate Ganesh Mahadik. The scam was uncovered in Ambad and Ghansawangi tehsils, which received ₹80 crore under 10 government resolutions passed between 2020 and 2025. 'Of this, ₹40 crore was misappropriated,' said Mr. Mahadik. Investigators found false beneficiaries listed on the government's E-Panchnama Payment Disbursement portal, including friends and relatives of accused officials. 'Some were from outside the village; some land areas were inflated or falsely shown as private,' Mr. Mahadik said. A team led by Deputy Collector Manisha Dandage inspected records of 2.5 lakh farmers and found most genuine farmers received nothing. The investigation is ongoing, with 35 more talathis under scrutiny.
