Pakistan set to launch advanced Remote Sensing Satellite this week

Pakistan and China on Monday held talks on aligning their cooperation in nuclear energy and space research with broader development goals. The development came as Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal met with China Atomic Energy Authority and China's Space Agency Chairman Shan Zhongde. He said under the leadership and vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan's space programme has gained new momentum. Highlighting the "Uraan Pakistan" initiative, he maintained that special focus was being given to advancing space sciences. Recently, he said, Pakistan successfully launched three satellites with China's cooperation, adding "Pakistan is set to send its first astronaut to the Chinese space station in 2026." Iqbal also shared that Pakistan's space agency, SUPARCO, has been tasked with launching a lunar mission by 2035. He emphasised that Pakistan possessed a pool of highly skilled human resources at a relatively low cost, which China could benefit from by enhancing their capabilities through collaboration. The minister highlighted that Pakistan has established a Quantum Computing Center in response to emerging technological challenges. He stressed the importance of strengthening research partnership and knowledge exchange between CAEC, SUPARCO, and the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, for the peaceful use of technology. The minister noted that the government has initiated a national programme to align science, technology, and engineering sectors with Pakistan's development goals. He emphasized the need to expand opportunities for young Pakistani scientists to receive higher education in space technology through Chinese exchange programs. Chairman Zhongde appreciated Iqbal's valuable contributions to the progress of CPEC. He said Pakistan and China enjoyed strong geo-strategic relations which have now evolved into deep-rooted economic cooperation. He affirmed that China was ready to extend full cooperation to Pakistan in the field of space research, adding both countries were committed to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Pakistan launches new satellite from China
China on Thursday successfully launched Pakistan's Remote Sensing Satellite-1 (PRSS-1) aboard a Kuaizhou-1A (KZ-1A) carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center, located in Sichuan Province. The satellite was launched at 10:00am (Beijing Time) on Thursday. It entered its preset orbit successfully. The mission marked the 29th flight of the Kuaizhou-1A model, China Economic Net reported. PRSS-1, China's first optical remote sensing satellite sold to Pakistan, will be used for land and resources surveying and monitoring of natural disasters. The launch marks a major milestone in the country's space journey and strengthens its position in Earth observation capabilities. The project is the result of a strategic collaboration between the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC), and MICROSAT China, said a news release on Thursday.
