Henkel launches pilot operations of re-powered electric trucks for commercial logistics

Time of Indiaa day ago
Henkel
Adhesive Technologies, in partnership with a logistics firm and an EV retrofitting solutions provider, has launched India's first mid-haul re-powered electric truck operations for
commercial logistics
.
The pilot initiative involves two initial routes: Chennai to Pune (1,321 km) and Pune to Halol (713 km), marking a key step in decarbonising long-distance freight transport. The
electric trucks
, retrofitted with an all-electric powertrain kit, offer a range of 250 kilometres per charge and support payloads of up to 8 tonnes.
Henkel estimates that a single round trip on the Chennai–Pune corridor results in a reduction of around 1,212 kg of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, demonstrating the potential of electric trucking to lower the sector's carbon footprint.
The move aligns with Henkel's broader climate strategy, which includes targets to cut at least 90 per cent of absolute emissions across scope 1 and 2, and 90 per cent of scope 3 emissions by 2045. The company said it is focusing on eco-design, low-emission materials, supplier engagement, and carbon-efficient logistics as part of its net-zero roadmap.
The pilot represents an early shift away from conventional diesel-powered logistics and signals growing interest in electrification across India's industrial supply chain.

Draft still in the works, govt. extends existing EV policy

Transport Minister Pankaj Singh on Tuesday announced the government has decided to extend the existing Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy up to March 31, 2026, as stakeholders are yet to hold consultations on the draft of the new policy. On April 15, the Cabinet discussed the draft policy and deferred approval of key proposals, such as phasing out CNG auto-rickshaws and fossil fuel-based two-wheelers within two years. The new policy aims for 100% adoption of electric vehicles in the Capital over the next three years. 'The current Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy has been extended until March 31, 2026, or until a new policy replaces it before that,' Mr. Singh said after the Cabinet meeting. The Minister said, during the extended period, there will be discussion on the key provisions of the policy, which include strengthening of the EV charging infrastructure, developing robust systems for safe e-waste and battery disposal, reviewing subsidies and waivers to boost EV adoption, and clearly defining the role of the public and private sectors in advancing the electric mobility ecosystem. The previous Aam Aadmi Party government first introduced the EV policy in 2020, which lapsed in August 2023, and it has been extended since then.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government on Tuesday extended the current Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy till 31st March 2026 or until the notification of a new policy, whichever is earlier, as the draft of the new policy will undergo public consultation, which is expected to take time The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting held by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at the Delhi Secretariat earlier in the day. 'The extension will enable the Transport Department to conduct comprehensive consultations with all stakeholders — including citizens, industry leaders, academic experts, environmental groups, and both public and private institutions. These discussions will focus on enhancing EV charging infrastructure, reviewing existing incentives and subsidies, establishing robust e-waste and battery disposal mechanisms, and clearly defining public-private roles in Delhi's evolving EV ecosystem,' the government said in a statement. The current EV Policy has been extended multiple times under both the previous AAP government and the current government led by the BJP. In June, Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh had said the government plans to roll out the EV Policy 2.0 by July.

Haryana govt wants to promote EVs in state: Anil Vij

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Chandigarh, Jul 22 (PTI) Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij on Tuesday said the state government is committed to encouraging pollution-free transportation and is keen on promoting electric vehicles (EVs) across the state. He said challenges such as charging infrastructure, which people are currently facing in adopting EVs, will be resolved soon. Vij further said if EV companies propose any schemes or plans a full-package scheme for promoting sales and infrastructure development, the government will actively consider and implement it. Vij was presiding over a meeting here with representatives from leading EV manufacturers across India, including Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, Hyundai Motors, MG Motors, and Kia Motors, an official statement said. During the meeting, Vij told the representatives from the companies that the government wants to boost EV adoption in Haryana and expects that an adequate number of charging stations should be available on roads, national highways, and state highways. He also said companies must ensure charging infrastructure so that their EVs can run smoothly on the roads. He urged companies to develop such facilities to support EV adoption, making them more attractive and convenient for users. Referring to a recent meeting held by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Vij said he said that people often travel long distances in personal vehicles and should have access to quality rest stops along the journey, offering toilets, refreshments, and seating facilities, charging stations, which are generally lacking at petrol pumps. According to the official statement, Vij urged the automaker representatives that 'selling EVs should not be the only goal; rather, developing supporting infrastructure should also be a core objective". This will ensure that users do not face difficulties in owning and operating EVs, he said. He reassured the companies that the Haryana government will extend full cooperation in promoting EVs. During the meeting, Vij advised representatives to compare the operating costs of EVs with those of petrol and diesel vehicles to promote the financial benefits of EVs and help users make informed decisions. He suggested that EV companies conduct technical studies to plan infrastructure development and choose Haryana as a pilot project location, assuring complete support from the state. Vij said if EV consumers in Haryana get proper infrastructure like charging stations, it will create a win-win situation for both users and manufacturers' benefitting consumers while supporting company growth.
