Boxing fans head to Canastota for Hall of Fame Induction Weekend
CANASTOTA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — In the small Village of Canastota, the International Boxing Hall of Fame is a big deal. The induction weekend brings in thousands of boxing buffs every year, like Lee Groves, who's been coming every year since 1993.
'I'm going to keep going until I drop,' Groves, who's from West Virginia, said. 'There's action, there's passion, their skill. Boxing at the highest level is an art.'
The center of the boxing universe welcomes people from all over the world. As for the locals who pass it every day, this weekend is always a knockout win for the economy.
Erin's Angels of CNY announces Cruise for Food fundraiser
'One of the local pizzerias says he sells 40 pizzas just in the hour before the parade begins,' Mayor of the Village of Canastota Roseanne Warner said. 'So it's a big impact for the village and we're really proud to have the honor of having the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota.'
The village is expecting a bigger crowd than usual for Sunday's parade because actress Sydney Sweeney is the grand marshal.
'So, Sydney Sweeney being Christy Martin, that is wow,' Hall of Fame boxer Christy Martin said. 'I mean she is so hot right now and to have her come here and be part of this weekend is over the top exciting.'
Sydney Sweeney is playing Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic about Martin's life.
Sunday's Parade of Champions steps off at noon.

Watch: Sydney Sweeney says 'Cassie is crazy' in 'Euphoria' Season 3
June 6 (UPI) -- Actress Sydney Sweeney is teasing Season 3 of Euphoria. She portrays Cassie in the HBO series, which premiered in 2019. She talked about filming the upcoming third season on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon Thursday. "Cassie is crazy," she said. "Oh, she's even worse. She's even worse." Fallon then showed an image of the star in an apparent wedding dress, but Sweeney said she could not provide additional details about whether or not her character will tie the knot. Zendaya, Maude Apatow, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Storm Reid, Hunter Schafer and Dominic Fike starred in Season 2. The actress, 27, also stars in the upcoming Apple TV+ thriller Echo Valley opposite Julianne Moore. "You know, when I first read the script, I was completely blown away by how Brad [Ingelsby], the writer, just wove in all of these crazy turns that I didn't even expect, and usually, I'm pretty good at figuring it out, and I did not see this coming," Sweeney told Fallon. "Claire, my character, shows up at her mom's doorstep, played by Julianne Moore, covered in blood," she added, describing the film. "And what follows is a endless amount of twists and turns that kind of show how much and how far a mother would go for her daughter." Domhnall Gleeson and Kyle MacLachlan also star in the film, which arrives on the streamer June 13. On Wednesday, Sweeney attended the New York premiere of Echo Valley. She wore a strapless, red corseted dress.

Sydney Sweeney's latest viral project is personal: ‘Weird in the very best way'
Sydney Sweeney is giving the people what they want, even if that something is a little unusual. The 'Euphoria' heartbreaker, who bought a house in the Florida Keys last year, has an eyebrow raising project that has nothing to do with movies or TV. The actress teamed up with personal care brand Dr. Squatch to create a soap called Bathwater Bliss, made with a dash of — you guessed it or maybe not — her bath water. OK, that's not as gnarly as it sounds. The used H20, already purified, was reportedly treated, then infused into the $8 bar. The woodsy smelling item, which also contains pine bark extract, launched Friday, and is already sold out. But we have a feeling the powers that be may throw together a few more batches due to the crazy high demand. The idea, 'weird in the very best way,' was actually hatched by Sweeney. Last fall, the 'White Lotus' star appeared in a few ads for Dr. Squatch's men's natural body wash. In one, she promotes the product from a bubble bath. The ad not only went viral, but many of her fans were joking they wanted to buy not just the wash, but the leftover water. 'There was this undercurrent of conversations related to Sydney,' John Ludeke, the brand's VP of global marketing, told AdWeek. 'I don't think they meant it in a literal sense, or maybe now it's apparent they did.' On Wednesday night, in New York for the premiere of her new Apple TV series, 'Echo Valley,' she was, of course, asked about her unexpected success in the male grooming industry (projected to reach $376.4 billion by 2030). 'I think that it's more fun to see everyone else talking about it,' the 27-year-old said cheekily, proudly adding, 'I pitched it.' Despite Sweeney's soap being sold out, you can still shop her favorites on the website.
