UAE unveils bold vision for Expo 2025 Osaka pavilion

ARN News Center08-04-2025
The UAE has unveiled the full vision for its national pavilion for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai in Japan.
Located within the Empowering Lives Zone, the UAE Pavilion presents a bold vision of collective progress through its theme, 'Earth to Ether'.
The theme reflects the country's ongoing journey from its deeply rooted cultural heritage to a future driven by innovation, imagination and exploration.
The pavilion delivers a message of driving collective progress for humanity and the planet by advancing space exploration, reimagining healthcare and pioneering sustainable technologies.
More than an architectural landmark or national exhibit, the pavilion is an invitation to collaborate. It invites the world to engage with the UAE's ideas, values and ambitions, and to explore how a country rooted in heritage is helping shape a flourishing future for all life on our planet and beyond.
Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of State, UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the office responsible for the UAE Expo Office, said: "The UAE's approach to World Expo participation has always been rooted in dialogue, cooperation and the pursuit of shared progress. As part of the UAE Expo Office, we see every Expo not as a moment in time, but as a platform to advance our values on the world stage — strengthening partnerships, promoting sustainability, and deepening cultural understanding."
It was in Osaka in 1970 that Abu Dhabi first participated in a World Expo. More than five decades later, the UAE returns as a global voice for cooperation and progress.
The longstanding partnership between the UAE and Japan has grown steadily across sectors including energy, technology, education and culture.
The UAE Pavilion will welcome visitors from April 13, 2025 to October 13, 2025.
Over the six-month duration, the UAE Pavilion will host opportunities for learning and collaboration through its curated calendar of more than 40 public-facing programmes.
These include sustainable technology forums, healthcare dialogues, youth empowerment activities and discussions on space exploration and technological innovation that expand into Expo Osaka's thematic weeks.
Designed through international collaboration, the UAE Pavilion merges traditional Emirati architecture with Japanese craftsmanship, featuring 90 towering columns made from agricultural date palm waste.
Inside, visitors will experience a multisensory journey through the UAE's story, highlighting space pioneers, healthcare innovators, and sustainability leaders.
Guests of the UAE Pavilion will be hosted by Emirati and Japanese Youth Ambassadors, who will guide visitors through a journey of discovery, bringing to life UAE innovations, culture, and collaborations on a global stage.
Aged between 18-35, 24 Emirati, 20 Japanese, and 2 expatriates residing in Japan make up this year's cohort— between them speaking a total of 7 languages, including Japanese, English, Arabic, Korean, Tagalog, French, and Mandarin.
Shihab Al Faheem, UAE Ambassador to Japan and Commissioner General of the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, said the pavilion reflects the UAE's resilience and commitment to collective progress.
"It is a space where the world can come together to learn, collaborate and create new futures. As we return to the city where our Expo journey began, we carry with us not only our past but our vision for tomorrow. We thank the people of Japan for their continued friendship and look forward to six months of partnership, creativity and shared progress," he explained.
The full interview with Shihab Al Faheem will be played on Dubai Eye103.8's The Business Breakfast at 7:35 AM on Wednesday, April 9.

Will Disney Abu Dhabi be indoors? Here's what we know

We've got three words for you: Disney. Abu. Dhabi. The happiest place on Earth is making its Middle East debut and while our inner child is spinning in teacups with joy, one (very valid) grown-up question remains: will the Disney theme park be outdoors or indoors? Because, let's face it – as much as we love Mickey-shaped ice creams and singing Let It Go under the sun, Abu Dhabi's summer doesn't mess around. With temps soaring past 50°C, even Olaf might reconsider his eternal love for summer. So… what's the plan? Will Disney Abu Dhabi be indoors or outdoors? It's (sort of) outdoors – but also indoors. Basically, it's magic. The answer, like any good Disney plot twist, isn't so straightforward. According to Disney Parks boss Josh D'Amaro, the new Yas Island mega-project will be a hybrid, combining the best of indoor comfort with outdoor charm. They're being very ambitious, architecture, tech and water are all coming into play – which sounds like there might be a splash of Moana inspiration involved. Here's the kicker: the park is being built right up against the water. Think cool breezes, waterfront vistas and, who knows – maybe even an indoor-outdoor castle that literally lets the sea into the storyline. Miral Group CEO Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi added that, like other Yas Island hits (hi, Warner Bros. World), Disney will be indoors, but he also called it the most advanced park in the Disney portfolio. So expect something completely new – and 100 percent air-conditioned. So, when can we go? Not tomorrow, unfortunately. With a timeline of up to two years for design and another four to six for construction, we're looking at a 2030 to 2032 opening. But we've waited 100 years for Disney to come to the UAE – what's a few more? Until then, we'll keep dreaming of those castle selfies, futuristic rides and Emirati-inspired storylines (yes, those are happening too). One thing's for sure – whether indoors, outdoors, or somewhere in between – Disney Abu Dhabi will be cooler than cool. Literally. All about Disney Abu Dhabi 7 things we know about the new Disney theme park in Abu Dhabi It's going to be magical – and massive This is when Disney Abu Dhabi is likely to open A Disney official has shared a rough timeline Three key ways the new Disney theme park will change Abu Dhabi A whole new world indeed

Have you sipped on safcha, the Emirati twist on matcha yet?

For matcha lovers and those who want to try it without worrying about sleepless nights, a new caffeine-free alternative has emerged from the UAE: safcha. Saaf Cafe, an Emirati concept inspired by the palm tree, a national symbol of heritage and identity, now serves the drink made from dried palm fronds. Safcha mimics the properties of matcha — a heavy pour of antioxidants and nutrients — sans the caffeine. Like the Japanese tea, the drink is green, and its production — the leaves are carefully selected, steamed, dried, and stone-ground into a fine powder — inspired by its overseas counterpart. The name itself blends the words 'saaf', which is Arabic for palm fronds, and matcha. It is ideal for those looking for a calming drink or an earthy local flavour. Mohammed Al Badwawi, brother of the founder of Saaf Cafe, told KT LUXE: 'During our participation in an exhibition in Saudi Arabia, we discovered a new product called safcha. We were immediately drawn to it because it perfectly aligns with our vision of offering products made from the palm tree.' By promoting this healthy beverage, the cafe hopes to attract the younger generation by providing food and juices that align with modern health trends, such as caffeine-free coffee alternatives similar to matcha. 'We've always aimed to offer choices that suit everyone, including those who are sensitive to caffeine,' Al Badwawi added. Now, safcha has become a staple on the extensive cafe menu. Hatta effect Saaf Cafe was established in 2024 in Hatta, and its name pays tribute to the natural environment and cultural heritage of the mountainous Hatta region. It also seeks to promote the culture of using dates by presenting them in various forms — from coffee infused with date extract, priced at Dh30, to other beverages such as 'Basr Juice' (made from fresh dates), Spanish Latte with dates, and V60 with dates. The menu also includes dishes like date pizza, date tiramisu, and rutab (semi-ripe dates) cheesecake, with prices ranging from Dh15 to Dh45. Al Badwawi explained: 'We wanted everything to be inspired by Hatta, from the name to the ingredients.' Saaf Cafe is not just a business project; it is a contribution to the community. We want people to see the palm tree not just as a symbol but also as a source of nourishment, wellness, and inspiration" Mohammed Al Badwawi In addition to beverages and desserts flavoured with dates, the cafe also offers personal care products such as date oil for hair, facial serum, eyelash oil, body oil, and date patches for eyes, feet, and joints. 'Saaf Cafe is not just a business project; it is a contribution to the community. We want people to see the palm tree not just as a symbol but also as a source of nourishment, wellness, and inspiration,' he said. The cafe was founded by Ali Al Badwawi, a retired government employee, former FIFA referee, and former member of the UAE Football Association. Al Badwawi views the project as a tribute to Emirati heritage. With more than 150 palm trees on the family farm, the Al Badwawi estate supplies the dates used to produce the beverages and food items served at the cafe. More than a cafe It's usually location that draws a crowd, but in the case of this cafe, it was the site of operation that proved to be the challenge. (It is located inside Dubai Municipality's Al Wadi Park at Hatta.) However, a collaboration with the local municipality helped turn the cafe into a visitor attraction. 'It was difficult to design a marketing plan that would draw people into the park to visit the cafe, but the municipality cooperated by placing a sign for the cafe inside the park,' he said. The venue functions as both a cafe and a restaurant, featuring two floors and an outdoor space. It was established to serve local products. The cafe blends traditional and modern atmospheres, and offers a unique dining experience suitable for all ages, including traditional breakfasts and other meals. Services include dine-in, online ordering, and soon, a new branch in Mirdif, Dubai. The cafe also organises events and initiatives aligned with local culture, such as dedicating special hours for only women, where people can connect over snacks and a cup of safcha.
