Among on-ground victims of Ahmedabad air crash, couple heading home from Aadhaar centre
Soon after, as the news of a plane crashing in the area began flashing in, the first instinct of the couple's family was to call them. As their phones were found switched off, the anxiety grew.
When frantic searches at the Civil hospital in Asarwa and Sola hospital yielded no results, a family member decided to give their sample for DNA testing.
'The next day, we reached the crash site looking for some information. The police deployed there showed us a photo of a half-burnt Aadhaar card which was found at the site. It had Chetnaba's photo and name,' Kiritsinh Chavda, elder brother of Ranbirsinh, told The Indian Express. Soon, the scooter that Chetnaba and Ranjitsinh were travelling in was also found in a charred state.
The family still didn't lose hope. But as DNA test reports came in on Wednesday, their worst fears were confirmed – Chetnaba and Ranjitsinh were among the victims of the air crash.
The couple was cremated at the crematorium in Chamunda.
The family, a native of Varsoda village in Mansa taluka of Gandhinagar district, had been living in Meghaninagar for years. They were parents to a 19-year-old daughter and a son, 8. The daughter got married last year. Ranbirsinh worked at a hotel near the airport and was provided with an electric GPS-enabled two-wheeler by his employer.
It was this feature of the vehicle that helped the family members identify the couple's last location.
'When we enquired with the hotel, the last location of the scooter was found at the crash site. The last location of the mobile phone was also the same. But still, we were hopeful that they were alive and lying injured at some hospital. But later, we found the partially burnt green number plate and a completely charred scooter from the site,' said Kiritsinh.
On Wednesday, along with their mortal remains, the jewellery of the couple was returned to the family.

She was later taken to the medical college, said sources. She underwent scanning for the injuries on her head, even as officials said that her condition was stable. The bag contained Rs 8,500, a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card. The railway police registered a case and formed a special team to track down the accused. Bangladeshi national wanted in four murder cases in his country arrested in Mumbai
By Manish Kumar Pathak The Mumbai crime branch arrested a 37-year-old Bangladeshi national wanted in four murder cases in his country, including one in which he was sentenced to death. The accused, identified as Mohammad Jamal Mohammad Hossain Potundar, alias Kuddus Rohim Shaikh, allegedly entered India illegally in 2023 via West Bengal, where he procured a fake Aadhaar card. He later moved to Mumbai, took over a new identity, and began working at a hotel in Kamathipura. Police said during a search of his belongings, they recovered four Bengali-language documents stating his involvement in four murders. 'It seems that someone from his native place sent him the documents once the Bangladeshi police issued an arrest warrant and were looking for him,' said a police officer. According to investigators, Potundar fled Bangladesh after the warrant was issued, entered West Bengal, and then relocated to Mumbai. Acting on a tip-off, the crime intelligence unit of the Mumbai crime branch arrested him on Friday evening. He was produced in court and sent to police custody till August 13. The accused initially claimed he was from Nadia district in West Bengal before revealing his true identity. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Foreigners Act, 1946. Police said he had no valid travel documents. 'We will inform his country through a legal process,' added the official.

Cyber fraudster held in Kolkata after 2-yr chase
Guwahati: Assam Police have arrested Shoriful Islam , a notorious cyber fraudster, for duping several financial institutions through identity theft using fake Aadhaar cards and phone numbers. Islam was arrested from a guest house in Kolkata's New Market area on Thursday in a joint operation with Kolkata Police. Islam, a resident of Morigaon district, had been on the run for over two years. Sources said he had also travelled abroad, including Bangladesh and Thailand, and his passport is under verification. On Friday, he was brought to Assam on a transit remand and presented before a court in Morigaon on Saturday, which granted five days of police custody. Four cases have been registered against him in police stations across Morigaon. "He was cheating financial institutions by submitting fake Aadhaar cards and using fake mobile SIM cards," Morigaon SP Hemanta Kumar Das.
