Thunder vs. Pacers odds: Oklahoma City is biggest NBA Finals road favorite in 35 years in Game 4

Yahoo12-06-2025
The Oklahoma City Thunder came into the 2025 NBA Finals as huge -700 favorites at BetMGM, tied for the seventh-biggest favorite in the NBA Finals since 1968, according to Sports Odds History. The Thunder went an astonishing 68-14 in the regular season en route to the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference and were also good to bettors, going an ridiculous 55-23-4 against the spread — the best ATS mark in 35 seasons.
Despite losing 116-107 in Game 3 on Wednesday night to the Indiana Pacers to go down 2-1 in the series, Oklahoma City is still a -250 favorite to win the series.

What's more remarkable, though, is the Thunder are currently 6.5-point road favorites in Game 4 at BetMGM. If the line holds, Oklahoma City would be the largest road favorite in the NBA Finals since at least the 1990-91 season.
The previous mark was set by the Los Angeles Lakers when they were six-point road favorites in Game 5 of the 2001 NBA Finals at the Philadelphia 76ers. The Lakers won (and covered) in a 108-96 victory to win the title.
The Thunder closed as 5.5-point road favorites in Game 3, tying with three other teams as the second-biggest road favorite since 1990. Oklahoma City is now 8-11 ATS this postseason.

'You guys are changing the game': Pacers coach Rick Carlisle praised by rival NBA coach

Are the Indiana Pacers changing the NBA? Their run to the 2025 NBA Finals featured several things rarely seen deep in the playoffs: a fast-paced offense, frequent full-court defense and extensive bench usage. Coach Rick Carlisle said Wednesday that fans have told him they really enjoyed watching the Pacers play, and that he recently got an unexpected compliment from a rival coach during coaches association meeting last weekend in South Carolina. "(The coach) said, 'You guys are changing the game,'" Carlisle recounted on 1075 The Fan. "I've gotten that comment or sentiment on several occasions." The Pacers were seeded fourth in the Eastern Conference on the way to taking the Oklahoma City Thunder to Game 7 of the Finals. Carlisle also reiterated his comments regarding Bennedict Mathurin's desire to have a higher profile. "It's important to Benn to be a starter. Why wait?" Carlisle said, adding that Mathurin will be expected to play faster and make quick decisions of offense while taking on tougher defensive matchups. About Mathurin's occasional penchant for playing one-on-one and driving into the heart of the defense? "That's got to go away." Schedule leak: NBA Cup game against Cavs to be shown on Amazon Prime Centers Isaiah Jackson and James Wiseman, both of whom suffered Achilles injuries early last season, are expected to be ready for training camp. Carlisle said Jackson has done some 5-on-5 scrimmaging. Tony Bradley and recently acquired Jay Huff are also coming to training camp, and the coach expects a spirited battle for three post roster spots. Carlisle added he holds no grudges toward Myles Turner, who joined the Milwaukee Bucks in free agency: "He's a lovable guy." Carlisle also said he's eager to see how Jarace Walker recovers from a right ankle injury suffered in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals. "I want to see (Walker) get the rebound and put on the burners and go coast-to-coast," he said.

Mavs star Kyrie Irving reveals his true feelings about playing with LeBron James

Mavs star Kyrie Irving reveals his true feelings about playing with LeBron James originally appeared on The Sporting News Many marked Kyrie Irving's departure from the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017 as a result of wanting the spotlight all for himself rather than playing in LeBron James' shadows. The duo delivered an NBA championship in 2016 and ran it back in 2017, but lost to the Kevin Durant-led Golden State Warriors, 4-1. While both players have said nothing of such nature that they don't like playing, some analysts have set the narrative suggesting that this is the case. However, during his recent live stream, Irving set the record straight. "I would have loved to choose the franchise I wanted to go to," Irving said. "I would have loved to develop next to some of my favorite players... It's not that I dislike playing with [LeBron] at any time. It was just literally my time to move on." Meanwhile, LeBron has remained fond of the current Dallas Mavericks star. On the Mind the Game podcast, LeBron praised Irving as "the most gifted player the NBA has ever seen." 'I would call Kyrie 'The Wizard' all the time. Like, all the time. There was nothing on the basketball floor that Kyrie couldn't do,' James said in June 2024. 'And sitting here watching it, you know, I'm like … so happy and so proud to watch him continue his growth and whatever … but I'm also so ... mad at the same time that I'm not his running mate anymore. So I'm like … I just remember those times. …To have a guy like Kyrie Irving as the ultimate wild card. It's like having a Draw 4 in your hand every time someone deals you cards in Uno. Like every single time. After leaving the Cavs, who drafted him first overall in 2011, Irving joined the Celtics as their new leader. But that partnership didn't last long, and actually, the bitter ending has TD Garden booing Irving to this day. He joined the Brooklyn Nets and formed a "super team" alongside Kevin Durant and James Harden. But things started to fall apart after the Milwaukee Bucks defeated them in the Eastern Conference finals and the subsequent pandemic. Finally, he was moved to the Mavs, where he joined forces with Luka Doncic to take the franchise to its first NBA Finals appearance since 2011. With Doncic being traded away, he has once again become the main face of a franchise. Only time can tell if he can win his second NBA title in the near future.

NFL odds: Shedeur Sanders is the most popular bet to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year

Shedeur Sanders hasn't been named the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback. In fact, there's been no concrete proof that he has moved up the depth chart at all from his spot at QB4, despite a good preseason debut. That's not stopping bettors from loading up on a fourth-string quarterback and fifth-round pick to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. The Sanders phenomenon can be exemplified in many ways, and BetMGM has its own way of quantifying it. Sanders is the most popular bet for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. As of Tuesday, 17.7% of the money bet on that award at BetMGM was on Sanders, who presumably still has to pass three other players just to start for the Browns. With bets continuing to come in on Sanders, his odds dropped this week from 30-to-1 to 25-to-1. Only eight players have shorter odds than Sanders, the 144th pick of the NFL Draft. Who doesn't have a starting job yet, or anywhere close to it. Shedeur Sanders gets bettors' attention For Sanders' start in the Browns' first preseason game, 2.237 million viewers tuned into NFL Network according to Nielsen (via Programming Insider). That's a remarkable number for practically any show, and ridiculous for an NFL preseason game on a Friday night. Sanders moves the needle like few other players, and more than any fifth-round pick in recent memory. The betting market is a reflection of that too. Only one other player, Ashton Jeanty, is getting more than 10% of the money bet on NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Jeanty is one of the best running back propsects in years and was the sixth pick of the draft. He is getting 12.4% of the money bet in that market. Cam Ward, the first pick of the draft and a locked in starting quarterback for the Tennessee Titans, has gotten 10% of the money in the OROY market. It's a lot of faith in Sanders, who might not play at all this season. Sanders still working way up depth chart Sanders' strong preseason debut will help his case for playing time, though an oblique injury suffered on Wednesday could set him back. And Sanders can't afford a setback. The Browns started camp with Joe Flacco as the starter, with Kenny Pickett as the backup and Dillon Gabriel ahead of Sanders in the battle of rookies. Pickett and Gabriel, who was drafted two rounds before Sanders, missed last week's game with hamstring injuries. Their injuries, along with rest for the veteran Flacco, was the reason Sanders got the start. Sanders took advantage of the opportunity, but he still needs to climb the depth chart and there's not a lot of time to do that before the regular season. Even Sanders himself said that he didn't want his father, Deion, coming to Browns camp yet because "I want to get to where I want to go, then for him to see me." It doesn't matter to bettors where Sanders is on the depth chart or where he was drafted. They are obviously clamoring to bet on him. If Sanders does win the Browns quarterback job, that story wouldn't lack for attention and if he plays well, voters would hear all about it. That might help push him ahead of highly drafted players like Ward, Jeanty and Tetairoa McMillan, who will have big roles from Week 1 on. Until then, Sanders bettors will be like plenty of his supporters, waiting impatiently for him to get a chance to start for Cleveland.
