Raiders favorite to be Matthew Stafford's next team should Rams trade QB

Yahoo20-02-2025

The Rams may or may not be trading former Super Bowl champion QB Matt Stafford. But if they do, they are said to be asking for a first round pick. Would the Raiders be interested in such a deal? The oddsmakers seem to think so.
You'd have to think if the Raiders were to send a first round pick to LA for the 37-year-old, it wouldn't be this year's pick. If only because the sixth overall pick is a steep price for an aging QB likely on his last contract. And the contract he is looking for will be pricey. Then again, what price -- both in terms of draft compensation and contract dollars -- would you pay for a few years of a proven starting QB? It's an intriguing thought.
While the oddsmakers favor Stafford staying in LA, should they move him, the Raiders top the list of potential trade partners. Here is the list of the current odds for what team Stafford will play for in 2025 (via BetUS):
Odds: -200.
Odds: +300.
Odds: +500.
Odds: +600.
Odds: +700.

Vikings extend contract of G.M. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah

First, it was coach Kevin O'Connell. Now, Vikings G.M. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has received his reward for three solid seasons on the job. NFL Media reports that the Vikings have signed Adofo-Mensah to a 'multiyear contract extension.' That tells us the bare minimum. It's at least two years on top of the one year he had remaining on his contract. Is his contract aligned with O'Connell's? We don't know now, and may never know. The delay between O'Connell and Adofo-Mensah getting their respective deals is likely meaningless. For O'Connell, who reportedly was drawing interest from teams looking for coaches, there was an urgency to get his deal done before he entered a contract year. Adofo-Mensah had not been linked to any other franchise, giving the team the luxury of time. The Vikings have made it to the playoffs in two of Adofo-Mensah's three seasons. The next step is to win a playoff game — something they haven't done since the 2019 season. The ultimate goal is to get back to a Super Bowl, obviously. Since last making it in 1976, Minnesota is 0-6 in the NFC Championship. Whether that happens hinges heavily on whether 2024 firs-rounder J.J. McCarthy becomes the first true franchise quarterback the Vikings have had since Daunte Culpepper and, before that, Fran Tarkenton.

New York Giants release statement on passing of long-time beat writer Dave Klein

New York Giants release statement on passing of long-time beat writer Dave Klein Long-time New York Giants beat writer Dave Klein has passed away at the age of 85. Klein covered the Giants for The Star-Ledger for decades and attended the first 54 Super Bowls. At Super Bowl I, a mere 338 media members were credentialed compared to today's 6,000 media members who receive credentials. "We are saddened to hear of Dave's passing," the Giants said in a statement. "He devoted much of his professional life to covering our organization and keeping our fans informed. Our thoughts are with Dave's family, friends and readers." At Super Bowl 50, Klein and two other journalists (Star-Ledger columnist Jerry Izenberg and Detroit News columnist Jerry Green) were honored by the NFL as the only three writers to cover every Super Bowl game up to that point. He covered the big game until 2021 when he missed Super Bowl LV. Later, Klein would say that the streak "is not an accomplishment as much as it is a happy stroke of longevity." Born in Newark, New Jersey, Klein graduated from Weequahic High, and although he left The Star-Ledger in 1996, he started his own Giants newsletter where he continued to cover the team. Klein is survived by his wife, son and daughter-in-law, daughter and son-in-law, and his brother and sister-in-law. Services will be held on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Bloomfield Cooper Funeral Home in Ocean Township. A burial ceremony will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge. We, at GiantsWire, send our condolences to the Klein family as they navigate this loss.
