Chicago's Michelada Fest has been canceled for 2025—and yes, politics are involved
Thousands of concertgoers have flocked to the city over the last seven years for Michelada Fest, also known as Miche Fest, a lively cultural celebration that began in Pilsen as a street festival and has evolved into a massive multi-day musical showcase full of live music and the titular beer cocktail (also known as the Mexican Bloody Mary). This year, due to growing apprehension around the current state of American politics, the festival has been canceled.
In a letter to the community posted on the official festival website, the Miche Fest team said: 'Due to the uncertainty surrounding artist visas and the rapidly changing political climate, we're no longer able to guarantee the full experience we had dreamed up for you with all your favorite artists. Although we tried to push through, it became clear that we wouldn't be able to deliver the full lineup as planned.'
Full refunds have been issued to ticketholders—the event was scheduled to take place on July 19 and 20 at Oakwood Beach, with headliners including Grupo Firme, Danny Ocean, Anitta and Luis R. Conriquez set to perform—as well as regrets. "This was not an easy decision for us to make. For seven years, we've poured everything into this festival to create something truly special for our community. Last year was our most incredible celebration yet, and we were ready to make this year even bigger, with more energy, creativity, and corazón,' the organizers' statement continued. "But as independent organizers, we can't afford to take on a big risk with so much uncertainty ahead.
The team acknowledged that canceling the festival will greatly impact not only local vendors and small businesses, but also, the artists who were slated to perform and the many community partners that were supporting the two-day festival.
'We're heartbroken by the greater impact this will have on our involved community, with ripple effects reaching our neighborhoods, local economy and the culture we've built together,' organizers said. 'But despite this setback, we remain committed to our values. Michelada Fest will always be a safe place where our community comes together, united by pride and love of our culture and music. That won't ever change. We'll keep showing up, giving back, and uplifting our people in every way we can.'

The family's fall-out with eldest son Brooklyn, 26, and his wife Nicola Peltz, 30, has caused speculation among fans that a feud has emerged. Various cryptic videos have been posted on both sides of the rift, while Brooklyn completely missed out on his dad David 's 50th birthday celebrations - making him the only member of the family not to attend. A recent interview with Glamour's German magazine saw Brooklyn and Nicola open up on their relationship and the pressures fame has put on them. But in Brooklyn's interview in April with Glamour, he offered up a new meaning: "The 23 stands for our engagement date and my age back then." Fresh images of Brooklyn also show that his tribute to Victoria, a tattoo reading: "Mama's boy," has been covered up. In an Instagram video shared in May, Brooklyn appeared to clearly pledge allegiance to Nicola. Showing him take his wife for an early morning motorbike ride, he wrote: "My whole world x I will love you forever x I always choose you baby x you're the most amazing person i know xx me and you forever baby." Less than a day after Brooklyn's pointed statement, his brother Cruz Beckham, 20 shared what seemed to be a response. And Jennie added: "I think Harry has always been more Spencer than Windsor, so if he was ever going to change his name, it would be to Spencer. "But this would be a final nail in the coffin of his relationship with his father and his brother. It would amount to a public declaration that he no longer saw himself as part of the royal family." There has been continued controversy over the Sussexes' HRH titles since the pair quit their royal roles five years ago. As part of their Megxit negotiations with the Palace, Meghan and the Duke of Sussex agreed to stop using 'Her Royal Highness' and 'His Royal Highness' at the end of March 2020. They still retain the styles, with Harry having had his since birth, but they are essentially held in abeyance. However, earlier this year, it emerged Meghan had used her HRH style on a gift basket sent to make-up entrepreneur Jamie Kern Lima last year, with a monogrammed card reading: 'With Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex'. Kern Lima showed an image of the present in footage of her podcast interview with Meghan. It contained a jar of Meghan's jam which she has started selling as part of her As Ever lifestyle business brand. A source described the basket as a 'personal gift'. The duchess's representatives denied that the couple used them, but a source later said that the Sussexes did not use HRH publicly but retained the style, and did not use it for commercial purposes.
