586 0fficers Accredited As CeIOs

Barnama22-04-2025
KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 (Bernama) – A total of 586 officers from the public sector, government-linked companies (GLCs) and the private sector were accredited as Certified Integrity Officers (CeIOs) at the 11th Certified Integrity Officers Convocation Ceremony 2025 at the Tun Dr Ismail Hall, World Trade Centre (WTC) here today.
The ceremony, organised by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), was officiated by MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.
The MACC, in a statement, said the officers concerned were accredited as CEIOs after they completed the four main modules of the CeIO Programme carried out in 2023 and 2024.
The modules are Integrity and Legal Management; Complaints Management, Detection and Verification and Discipline; Compliance, Strengthening Integrity and Governance; and Formation of Integrity Plans and Corruption Risk Management.
The CeIO Programme was introduced in 2010 following the Prime Minister's Directive No. 1 of 2009 to strengthen governance and integrity in the public and private sectors, as well as GLCs.
To date, a total of 2,851 officers have been trained.
'The role of Certified Integrity Officers is to plan, implement and monitor the effectiveness of integrity programmes. They also serve as catalysts in fostering a culture of integrity and in preventing corruption, malpractice, and abuse of power among civil servants,' the statement said.
The convocation ceremony was also attended by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Murshid Diraja Dr Juanda Jaya and MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Management and Professionalism), Datuk Indera Junipah Wandi.
Meanwhile, Azam, in his keynote address, emphasised that the CelO programme is more than just a training initiative; it also represents the nation's long-term strategic investment in establishing a transparent, ethical, and corruption-free system of governance.

New water tariff rates in Melaka effective Aug 1 for sustainable supply

MELAKA: Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad (SAMB) has implemented new water tariff rates effective August 1 to ensure the sustainability and stability of the state's water supply system. The adjustment aims to prepare for future challenges while minimising the impact on domestic users. In a statement, SAMB clarified that the revised rates would not burden the majority of households, particularly the 312,396 registered users who consume water prudently. The changes also affect 48,788 non-domestic accounts, including businesses, industries, government agencies, and charitable institutions, ensuring a fairer contribution to water service costs. The updated tariff structure includes: • Domestic (Residential): Minimum charge of RM9.40, with rates ranging from RM0.94/m³ for 0-20 cubic metres to RM2.26/m³ for usage exceeding 35 cubic metres. • Domestic (Residential Bulk Meter): A flat rate of RM2.22/m³ with a minimum charge of RM25. • Business/Industry/Government: Rates start at RM2.66/m³ for 0-35 cubic metres, increasing to RM2.72/m³ beyond that threshold, with a minimum charge of RM26.60. • Places of Worship/Charitable Institutions: Fixed at RM1.01/m³ with a minimum charge of RM10.10. • Shipping: A steep rate of RM8.02/m³ with an RM80.20 minimum charge. • Data Centres: Charged RM5.32/m³, with a minimum fee of RM53.20. SAMB emphasised that the revised tariffs will fund critical infrastructure projects, including the expansion of the Jus and Jernih Water Treatment Plants, pipeline upgrades across Melaka, and improved sludge waste management. These investments aim to enhance service reliability and meet growing demand. - Bernama

MACC boosts forensic probes, asset recovery in 13MP anti-corruption push

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will intensify its crackdown on corruption, financial leakages, and power abuse by upgrading operational tools, deepening forensic capabilities, and accelerating asset recovery. Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the move aligns with the governance reforms highlighted in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). Azam stressed the commission's dual focus: rigorous enforcement and societal integrity education. 'MACC recognises public expectations and will fulfil this mandate to foster a corruption-free Malaysia, directly supporting economic resilience,' he said in a statement. The agency aims to embed ethical values through community programmes, cultivating 'principled citizens' to sustain long-term anti-graft efforts. Collaboration remains central to MACC's strategy. 'We stand united with the government and rakyat to achieve 13MP's socioeconomic goals, ensuring development benefits all equitably,' Azam added. The plan's emphasis on accountability mirrors MACC's ongoing initiatives, including high-profile asset seizures and cross-border corruption probes. - Bernama
