Expert reveals the simple trick to keep your lawn green and healthy – and it won't cost you a thing
A GARDENING expert has shared a simple trick to get your lawn looking lush and healthy, without needing to spend a penny.
With temperatures soaring again this weekend, after a chilly bank holiday many of us likely plan to spend time relaxing in the garden.

However, if you're planning on having any guests over for barbecues or garden parties, you may want to give your lawn a bit of a spruce up.
And although you may think that keeping your lawn in tip top condition will cost a bomb, Ivana Agustina, Head of Project Management at ShrubHub revealed one simple trick you can use that is completely free.
The expert revealed that instead of throwing grass clippings away after you finish mowing, you should leave them on the grass.
"One of the simplest tricks is to leave your grass clippings after mowing," she told Fabulous.
"They break down fast and act as a natural fertiliser, giving your lawn a nutrient boost without costing a penny.'
Not only is this hack cost-effective, it will also save you time too, so you can spend more time relaxing in the sun.
Ivana also revealed that many gardeners are making a huge mistake when trying to get their lawns looking lush.
A lot of people over-water without realising it," she told Fabulous.
Ivana said that instead of running a sprinkler throughout the day, you should deep water the grass twice a week in the morning.
We made our boring new build garden a Love Island style haven with bar & hot tub, but trolls say detail 'ruined our day'
"This encourages the roots to grow deeper and makes your lawn more drought-resistant.
"You'll use less water overall, and your lawn will actually look greener for it.'
As you will be using less water with this method you will save money, whilst making your lawn look lusher than ever.
Ivana also revealed that mowing at the wrong time can have disastrous consequences.
'People don't realise that grass gets stressed just like any plant,' she said.
"Many gardeners make the common mistake of mowing their grass in the midday heat, without realising the harm this can do to the grass.
'If you mow it at the wrong time, you're basically wounding the lawn when it's least able to recover.'
The expert revealed that in spring the best time to mow your lawn is between 9 am and 11 am.
'Mowing during late morning means you're not clogging your mower with wet clippings or baking the lawn in midday heat,' she said.
Ivana explained that one of the worst times to mow your grass is before 8 am as grass is still wet from morning dew, which leads to "uneven trimming".
She added that between 2pm and 4pm is also not a good time to cut the grass, as this is the hottest part of the day, "which is bad news for moisture retention and overall lawn health."

Take shorter showers, says boss at crisis-hit Thames Water
A boss at crisis-hit Thames Water has asked customers to take shorter showers. The UK's biggest water company, which is teetering on the brink of collapse, has also urged people to turn off the tap when brushing their teeth, reduce laundry loads and fix leaking lavatories. The advice is intended to help conserve water as England faces a summer drought after the driest spring since the reign of Queen Victoria. Andrew Tucker, the firm's water demand reduction manager, told the BBC: 'A couple of minutes off your shower could save a huge amount. 'The south east of England gets less annual average rainfall than Sydney, Rome and Lisbon and is feeling the impact of climate change and extreme weather events. 'The UK faces a shortage of water in 25 years and, whilst people are aware, behavioural change isn't coming through yet, as our latest data shows. Being water efficient is very easy – it's the simple things that make a difference.' Regions in drought status England has experienced its driest March, April and May since 1893. Five regions across the North were moved to drought status by the Environment Agency because reservoirs and rivers are at such low levels. A survey by Thames Water of 2,000 adults in its network area, conducted by Opinion Matters, found that the average person spends about eight minutes in the shower. The company said a person who shaved two minutes off their shower time could save £73 on water and energy bills a year and around 20 litres of water per person every day. The survey also found that 42 per cent of people say they keep the tap running while they brush their teeth. A running basin tap can use six litres of water a minute and people who turn off the tap 10 seconds sooner save over half a litre, the firm said. It also said that on average leaking lavatories on average waste 200-400 litres of water a day, and that doing two less weekly washes can save a person £46 on their water and energy bills. The advice comes as the utility giant struggles under a £20 billion debt pile and faces the risk of collapse into a government-supervised administration. The firm's attempt to secure its future suffered a major blow this week after a potential rescue deal collapsed. On Tuesday, the private equity firm KKR abandoned plans for a £4 billion bailout following a row over fines and executive bonuses. The firm was also hit with a record £123 million fine last week by Ofwat, the water industry regulator, for breaching rules over sewage spills and shareholder payouts.

I've lost 5 stone & learnt the truth about thin privilege – men are nicer to me but a restrictive diet isn't the answer
A WOMAN who's lost five and a half stone has explained she learnt the hard way about the so-called "thin privilege". Liv Ralph opened up about how her life has changed since her impressive weight loss, which she kicked off with a gastric band back in 2018. 6 6 6 6 And in a video on her TikTok page, she explained how attitudes towards her have changed now she's slimmer - especially from men. "This one is a little bit sad to admit but it's very true," she said. "Men are a lot nicer to me. "Men just take me more seriously and have more time to talk to me." Liv also went on to urge people to steer clear of a " restrictive diet" if they're trying to lose weight. "Every single restrictive diet I have tried over the years has been a waste of time," she sighed. "Absolute waste of time. "If you go too restrictive with it, one day you're gonna wake up and go, 'F**k this, I'm eating what I want!' "Sustainability leads to consistency and consistency is key." Another side effect she's experienced from her weight loss is the amount of loose skin she's been left with. I'm so happy with my Mounjaro body after dropping 4 stone but there's a side effect I hate & trolls say I 'cheated' "You're gonna get loose skin and also if you lose weight too fast your hair will fall out," she warned. "See this? "She's bald!" While her life has become "a lot easier" since losing the weight, Liv also admitted that she has struggled to separate from her former self, and will "ever forget how it feels to be the fat ugly friend". "I will avoid anything that reminds me of my old self," she continued. " Hair colour... style. I just try and avoid being that girl. "Sadly I feel like now my worth is tied to my appearance and I just obsess with the way I look. "Even filming this video I'm looking at myself thinking, 'What does my hair look like? What does my make-up look like? 'There's wrinkles there and oh there's flab there.' "It is absolutely exhausting. "I almost feel like the old me, the old Liv, was a little bit more free. "She didn't care as much." "I love this video so much," one person commented on the video. "It's so relatable as someone who has lost a lot of weight too...I feel like its not just men lots of women too!" "Amazing and honest!" another added. "I've always felt like people who have never been fat a lot of their life just don't get it, people never get it, and that's fine but everything you said is true." "I have lost so much weight," a third wrote. "And in my workout class the instructor needed me to demonstrate the technique. "I was BEAMING!" 6 6
