Raichur: Two men who posed as police personnel and robbed women of jewellery were arrested in Raichur district on Saturday.
The arrested, Ali Tayyab and Abbas Mustafa, would alert unsuspecting women about the risks of fines for wearing gold jewellery.
They would then steal the jewellery under the guise of offering assistance in wrapping it, west station police said.
In a recent incident, the pair stole a 20-gram gold chain valued at Rs 2 lakh from an elderly woman named Padma in the city. They then escaped on a motorcycle. Following this incident, the West Station police established a special team to capture the offenders.
The suspects were arrested on Saturday while they were checking vehicles at a barricade along the highway close to Gabbur police station limits in Devdurg taluk. The investigation uncovered that the suspects previously engaged in gold jewellery thefts in Pune. The police retrieved the gold chain that was taken from Padma.

The investigation revealed a network of individuals who created and operated four fictitious firms solely to illegitimately claim GST refunds under the guise of genuine business activities. This case marks a first-of-its-kind operation by the Department, where cutting-edge big data analytics and detailed chain analysis—including scrutiny of banking transactions—were employed to trace the flow of funds across multiple entities located in Delhi, other states, and international jurisdictions such as Hong Kong and Singapore. The Department's data-driven investigation identified multiple entities using the same PAN, mobile numbers, and email addresses as those used by the fraudulent firms. As an immediate enforcement measure, the registration of the Delhi-based entities has been suspended.

According to a press release issued on June 15 by the Department of Trade and Taxes, the Government of NCT of Delhi, Rs 1.16 crore has already been recovered, and one person has been arrested so far in connection with the investigation uncovered a network of individuals who operated bogus entities under the pretence of conducting genuine business activities. The operation marks a first-of-its-kind for the Department, which relied on advanced big data analytics and detailed chain analysis, including the examination of banking trail of illicit funds led to multiple locations across Delhi, other Indian states, and foreign jurisdictions such as Hong Kong and Singapore. The Department's data-led probe found that several entities used identical PAN numbers, mobile numbers, and email addresses - indicating coordinated fraud. The registration of the implicated Delhi-based firms has been suspended. Authorities in other states have also been informed about further action against entities within their in coordination with the Income Tax Department, the Delhi GST Department has flagged and recommended the blocking of PANs tied to fraudulent operations. With financial trails leading to entities outside India, a detailed report has been submitted to the Department of Revenue, Government of India, for necessary to recover the remaining amount are ongoing. So far, 45 bank accounts linked to 27 entities have been frozen to prevent any diversion of funds. An FIR has also been filed with the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi a key development, Bunty, son of Harish Chander and the proprietor of one of the beneficiary firms, has been arrested.
