Foldable iPhone gets a tentative release window as the foldable iPad is put on hold

Apple's fashionably late foray into the foldable industry will begin in the second half of next year. I initially expected the company to release the phone earlier to compete with the Fold 8 from Samsung. However, it seems that Apple's marketing for the foldable iPhone — which will present it as the best iPhone — relies on it being launched alongside the iPhone 18 series.
Earlier, we got a look at a prototype foldable iPhone's screen specs. Mass production is expected ( translated source ) to begin shortly, which heavily implies that those specs have been finalized. According to sources from inside the supply chain, Apple has been very particular about this phone, with revisions numbering in the double digits across over five years. A big reason for all these delays and redesigns is the fact that the company wants to release a foldable smartphone that has no visible crease. But if the leaked screen specs are the final design, then the phone already falls behind this year's Galaxy Z Fold 7 in other aspects.Apple will market the foldable iPhone as the next best thing after the iPhone 18 Pro Max. But the company will supersede it with the special 20th anniversary iPhone Pro, which is expected to have no cutouts on its display. The original plan for a foldable iPhone for the 20th anniversary as well seems to have been scrapped.

There was another foldable product that the company had been developing: a massive foldable iPad . This iPad was supposed to launch in 2026 as well, and it was going to measure in at a ridiculous 18.8 inches across when unfolded. It has now been put on hold for the time being.
The report claims that the foldable iPad was postponed due to much more difficult manufacturing that costs a lot more, as well as low demand from the market. Understandably, such a product would've cost a ton, and the company probably doesn't want a repeat of the Apple Vision Pro, if I had to guess. I also think that there may be another reason for the delay. According to older reports, Apple had been planning on shifting Face ID under the display for the foldable iPad . While such a thing is still on track for the iPhone 18, the company may have decided to push back the iPad till the 20th anniversary of the iPhone in 2027.
The new Pro model may be accompanied by a foldable iPad that also has no cutouts on its display: Face ID or otherwise. Though, whether Apple would want to risk upstaging the iPhone on its special day is debatable.
Apple users are eating ( swiping? ) good for these next few years. From the redesigned iPhone 17 Pro, the new iPhone 17 Air, the redesigned iPhone 18, and the 20th anniversary iPhone Pro, Apple fans are going to have a ton of choice for a long time. Throw in a foldable iPad , and you're golden. Not to mention the cheaper MacBook powered by an iPhone chip.The foldable industry has been on a decline, and Samsung has had to revise sales expectations for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 . Whether the foldable iPhone and iPad are able to reverse this decline, given Apple's extremely late entry, is unclear. Part of the reason for this decline is the costs of these devices, and Apple's products aren't going to come cheap.
However, I'm glad to know that we're getting more competition and further variety in the market. Samsung is expected to unveil its tri-foldable Galaxy G Fold in July, and possibly launch it later this year. Motorola's next big launch is set for next week
The Moto G96 is the next major device coming from Motorola. The US based company has just confirmed that the phone that we told you about last week will be officially introduced in India on July upcoming smartphone is Motorola's top-of-the-line Moto G series phone, which is mirrored in the device's specs. Just like many of Motorola's mid-range handsets, the Moto G96 offers fans the option to pick up a premium-like version that features a faux leather back panel. As far as the camera goes, the most important details revealed by Motorola include a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-700C sensor housed by the main camera, as well as a 32-megapixel selfie snapper. The phone has a dual camera, but there's no information about the second one. Unless you don't mind getting a similar mid-range phone but powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7200/7300 processor, which nearly the same when it comes to are quite a few mid-range phones that match the description, such as the Motorola Edge 60 Fusion, Nothing CMF Phone 2 Pro, Redmi Note 14 Pro, Infinix Note 50x, Nothing Phone (2a), and Motorola Edge 50 Neo. Even the Moto G86, one of the phones announced back in May and is expected to hit shelves in July, is using a MediaTek 7300 chipset. A budget Samsung Galaxy foldable is definitely happening this year
Samsung fans are preparing for the Galaxy Unpacked event that will be held on the 9th of this month. But, besides the long-awaited Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7, there is now almost no doubt that a budget foldable called the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is also coming. Accessory maker Spigen accidentally listed cases for the Flip 7 FE, promptly removing them soon after. The listings were noticed by Android Central, which managed to get screenshots of the Google results before the pages disappeared. This basically confirms that the FE is happening this year, likely slated to be unveiled alongside the Flip 7 and Fold 7 in a few days from now. The inclusion of the number in the name also suggests that it's going to become a yearly tradition, and isn't just a one-off. Leaked Flip 7 renders — which also included the FE — show that the Flip series is ditching the camera cutout in favor of more screen real estate. However, the FE will resemble the Galaxy Z Flip 6. The FE series may just become a repackaged older Galaxy clamshell with a better chip inside. The phone will also be powered by Samsung's own 3 nm Exynos 2500 chip, which will also be present in the standard Flip 7 . After failing to get it ready on time for the Galaxy S25 series, it's time for Samsung to show the world what Exynos can do. For those who want the best of the best, the Fold 7 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Furthermore, Samsung has reportedly improved the crease, and also made so many other technical improvements that the Fold 7 makes the Fold 6 look ancient. The Flip 7 itself, though sharing the same chip as the FE, will have bigger displays and better cameras. If you can stretch your budget by $100, the recently released Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 is also an excellent alternative to the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. It's got a bigger battery as well as a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. However, if you can't live without Samsung's One UI, or just really need the seven years of updates, then the Flip 7 FE is the correct choice. One of the reasons that the foldable industry has been in a decline is the fact that foldable smartphones are just too expensive. No Mr. President. Apple and US consumers will pay the 20% tariff on Vietnam
President Donald Trump has announced a trade deal with Vietnam. This deal leaves two different tariffs on goods imported into the U.S. from Vietnam. The one that covers Apple devices made in Vietnam and shipped to the States demands that Apple pay a 20% import tax. The tech giant will have the option of paying the entire amount. It could also raise prices by the amount of the tariff, leaving U.S. consumers to pay the tax bill. Or Apple could pay some of the tariffs and raise prices by a smaller amount, leaving consumers stuck with paying the balance. I know that President Donald Trump wrote on a social media post that "Vietnam will pay the United States a 20% Tariff on any and all goods sent into our Territory." I'm sorry, but that is not how tariffs work. Vietnam will not pay one penny of the tariff imposed on it by the U.S. You might want to believe otherwise, but it is true. Apple and/or its U.S. customers will be forced to pay the hiked import tax on the following devices, which are believed to be made by Apple in Vietnam: AirPods Apple Watch iPad Mac mini MacBook Pro The 20% import tax on goods shipped into the U.S. from Vietnam sounds like a bargain compared to the 46% rate that Trump announced for Vietnam during his "Liberation Day" event. However, prior to that early April announcement, the tariff on goods shipped to the U.S. from Vietnam was less than 4%. Is it a lie or simply a misstatement?
