UK's BAE Systems confident on winning new Typhoon orders
"We're working with the UK government on a number of those campaigns presently," Richard Hamilton, Managing Director for Europe and International in BAE Systems Air sector, said at the group's facility in Warton, northern England.
Asked whether he was confident that those sales campaigns would result in new orders for the aircraft, he said: "yeah, absolutely", adding that there was potential for new orders of up to 150 new Typhoons.
Underpinning that confidence in the new export order, he said, was Britain's commitment to funding upgrades to Typhoon's capabilities, which extends the aircraft's lifespan.
"The confidence it gives the export partner, you know, with the Saudis, with the Turkish, when they see that this thing has a life, it just makes the whole conversation so much easier," he said.
Trade unions in Britain have raised concerns that without the new orders, some BAE final assembly production lines would run out of work in the 2030s.

MILAN, July 18 (Reuters) - Qatari investment fund Mayhoola and Gucci-owner Kering ( opens new tab are considering selling their jointly-owned fashion house Valentino, an Italian daily reported on Friday. The decision is part of a wider review by Kering of its holdings, as the luxury group faces growing debt, a global slowdown in luxury demand and is under pressure on the bourse, Corriere della Sera newspaper added. The French giant bought a 30% stake in Valentino in 2023 for $1.7 billion with a commitment to buy the remaining 70% by 2028, hoping to create a second flagship label rooted in high couture. Kering's new Chief Executive and former boss at carmaker Renault ( opens new tab, Luca de Meo, due to start on September 15, will handle the issue, the newspaper reported, adding that Kering declined to comment and Mayhoola did not respond to a request for comment. Electrolux Q2 profit rises more than expected as it outperforms market in North America
STOCKHOLM, July 18 (Reuters) - Swedish home appliances maker Electrolux ( opens new tab reported a bigger-than-expected operating profit for the second quarter on Friday and said price hikes offset increased costs related to U.S. tariffs in the quarter. Operating profit at the group, whose brands include Frigidaire, AEG, Zanussi and Volta as well as Electrolux, rose to 797 million crowns ($81.9 million) from a year-earlier 419 million Analysts had on average forecast an operating profit of 710 million crowns, according to a poll provided by Electrolux. The company said overall market demand in North America and Europe had declined slightly in the quarter, but maintained its market outlooks from April for all regions. It said it however outperformed the wider market in North America, where it swung to profit. Electrolux said in April U.S. President Trump's tariff plans had hit consumer sentiment, and lowered its North America market outlook. It said at the time it was extremely difficult to predict tariffs, and that it aimed to offset any further tariff increases with more price hikes.
