American man injured while descending Gunung Datuk
SEREMBAN: An American man passed out after he slipped when descending Gunung Datuk in Rembau this evening, the Fire and Rescue Department said today.
Senior operations commander, leading fire officer II Zaini Salleh said they received a distress call at 4.10 pm and arrived at the location where the victim was at Check Point 1 Gunung Datuk at 4.40 pm.
He added that the man was with his wife and son who came from Shah Alam to Seremban on a holiday before climbing Gunung Datuk this morning.
'The man, 65, slipped and hit his head against a rock and lost consciousness. He was carried down by the firefighters with assistance from forestry officers.
'His wife, a local aged 65 and their son, an US citizen in his 30s were unhurt,' he told Bernama here today, adding that the man was handed over to a Health Ministry ambulance for further action at 5.36 pm.

GEORGE TOWN, June 13 (Bernama) -- The Penang state health department shut down seven premises, including a kindergarten, and issued 167 notices for various offences along with compounds worth RM43,600 in a public health operation yesterday. The operation was conducted to ensure compliance of the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852), the Food Act 1983 (Act 281), the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975 (Act 154 and the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Amendment) 2025 (Act 342). "A total of 84 notices were issued with compounds worth RM20,600 for various offences under Act 852, and notices to appear in court for prosecution were issued for two offences for selling cigarettes in open packs and one offence for selling cigarettes under the sale price. 50 tobacco products worth RM179 were also seized,' the department said in a statement tonight.

Man feared drowned after being hit by car and falling into KL river
KUALA LUMPUR: A pedestrian is believed to have drowned after falling into a river when he was hit by a car that skidded in an accident on Jalan Ipoh heading towards the Kepong Roundabout, near here, on Friday (June 13) morning. Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the accident, which occurred around 11.45am, involved two cars and a pedestrian. "Initial investigations found that a Nissan Sylphy, driven by a 39-year-old Bangladeshi man from the direction of PPR Batu Muda, lost control and collided with the front right side of a Toyota Camry, driven by a 43-year-old Vietnamese woman from the direction of Batu Kentomen, near here. "The Nissan Sylphy then struck a pedestrian before plunging under the bridge and getting caught between concrete structures and iron pipes," he said in a statement on Friday. He added that the Nissan Sylphy driver sustained injuries and was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for further treatment, while the pedestrian victim, whose identity is still unknown, is suspected to have fallen into the river and has yet to be found. He stated that a search and rescue operation is currently underway by the Fire and Rescue Department from Sentul, Jinjang, and Hang Tuah stations, along with the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), Motorised Patrol Unit (URB), and JSPT Kuala Lumpur. ACP Zamzuri said further investigations revealed that the car driven by the foreign man was not his, and police are tracking down the actual owner of the vehicle for further action. He said the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and the Bangladeshi man will be detained for further investigation.- Bernama

SHAH ALAM, June 13 (Bernama) -- A male actor and singer suspected of committing sexual misconduct against a 17-year-old girl recently will be charged in the Putrajaya Court next Tuesday. (June 17). Selangor Police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the prosecution directive against the suspect was received today from the Selangor Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office. 'The suspect will be charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for committing physical sexual misconduct against the victim.
