Australian fisherman missing after hooking shark, being pulled underwater
NEW SOUTH WALES, AU (WJW) — Authorities are searching Australian waters for a fisherman who fell overboard after hooking a shark during a fishing competition Sunday.
According to a Monday press release from New South Wales (NSW) Police Force, the 58-year-old man, identified by the New South Wales Game Fish Association as Paul Barning, is believed to have become entangled in fishing tackle before falling overboard around 1:35 p.m.

It happened as the crew was attempting to tag and release the shark, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
A multi-crewed search effort was launched, but it was suspended due to nightfall before resuming Monday morning, the police force said.
According to 7 News Australia, during a Monday morning press conference, police said they believe Barning had hooked a large mako shark when he became entangled in the fishing line and pulled into the water.
'After the entanglement we believe the shark has submerged, pulling the man into that water,' the police superintendent said.
Police described the shark as 'quite large,' and said they don't believe it attacked Barning in the water.
Barning and other crew members were fishing from a boat that was 6.8 meters, or about 22 feet long. He was not wearing a life jacket, police said.
The New South Wales Game Fish Association wrote on Facebook that Barning was a lifelong member of the Port Hacking game fishing club who served as the current secretary as well as a past-president. The post called Barning a 'highly experienced game fisherman.'

'He was tragically lost at sea in he most unlikely of circumstances,' the post said, before adding the incident highlights the risks associated with game fishing.
The post also offered the group's condolences to Barning's wife and kids.
The search for Barning will reportedly continue through Tuesday.

The two victims were reportedly staying in the villa with Radmanovic's wife, Gourdeas Jazmyn, 30. She was sleeping in bed at the time and witnessed the shooting, per the Bali Tribune. '[She] heard her husband screaming. She then covered her eyes using a blanket while peeking and saw a man wearing a bright orange jacket with a black helmet,' the Bali Tribune reported, citing local police. 'Then saw the person shoot her husband Zivan in the toilet … a few moments later she also heard the victim Sanar screaming from [his] room and the sound of gunshots.' '[Jazmyn] ran out of the room and screamed, seeing that Sanar was already bleeding and returned to the toilet to check her husband's condition by checking his pulse," the outlet continued. A second witness named Daniela, who was staying in another room in the villa said she was woken up after hearing 'an explosion from inside the room," according to the Bali Tribune. Witnesses saw the two suspects fleeing the scene on two motorcycles, Daily Mail reported. Radmanovic's body was sent to Prof. Ngoerah Hospital in Bali for an autopsy, the outlet reported. The shooting just after midnight on Friday at Villa Casa Santisya near Munggu Beach in the district of Badung killed Zivan Radmanovic, 32, from Melbourne. The second victim, who is 34 and also from Melbourne was beaten, said Badung Police chief Arif Batubara. 'We cannot yet determine the motive,' Batubara said, adding that an investigation is underway. The two Australians were rushed to hospitals in Denpasar, the provincial capital. According to police, the villa had only three rooms occupied with a total of five guests when the shooting happened. The two victims' wives were also there and another foreign tourist, Batubara said. Radmanovic was shot in a bathroom, where police found 17 bullet casings and two intact bullets. At least three witnesses at the villa told investigators that two gunmen, one wearing orange jacket with a dark helmet and another wearing a dark green jacket, a black mask and a dark helmet, arrived on a scooter at the villa around midnight.
