'This week we have snacks or a vendor coming in every single day to provide a treat for the teachers. Today we have a popcorn bar. We have Flyboy Donuts, we have Serendipity Ice cream truck, Sodak soda,' Parent at Discovery and PTO member Eva Hudelson said.
It's all for Teacher Appreciation week, or as the Discovery Elementary PTO is calling it, Staff Appreciation week.
'There's so many people that show up to school to work every day, all year long, that have different roles and are still making an impact on our kids' lives,' Hudelson said.
While popcorn and other goodies may seem like small gestures, they're is greatly appreciated by the teachers.
'It's my first year of teaching and so, having some really awesome parents in my class this year just has shown how much I love this profession, I love their kids. They've been so supportive of my first year of just teaching in general,' Discovery Elementary 5th Grade Teacher, Christa Yoder said.

Letting the people who take care of the city's children know that they are seen and appreciated.
'We work so hard every day, far beyond contract hours, every day. Teaching is not a job that you can just leave at 3:30-4:00 and be done. We're always thinking about these kids,' Yoder said.
'We just really want to know how much they are appreciated and valued by all the parents and families here at our school, we just have a fantastic school. They're making an impact on our kids that will last a lifetime,' Hudelson said.
Along with the popcorn, Discovery has drawings for the teachers to win items like gift cards and gift baskets.

75-foot boat surfs wave, runs aground in Hawaii

A 75-foot boat ran aground in Hawaii on Saturday, according to a U.S. Coast Guard press release. Video footage shows the vessel, a passenger boat known as The Discovery, appearing to surf on a wave before crashing on the shore. "The Discovery's operator reported that two large waves disrupted his course and that he lost propulsion once the vessel went aground," the Coast Guard said. "Sector Honolulu command center watchstanders received a report at 8:25 a.m. Saturday that the Discovery ran aground approximately 60 feet outside Kewalo Basin Harbor. The vessel's captain and one crew member were aboard." "Basically, the boat was surfing like a giant surfboard," Ramon Brockington, who had been filming body surfers at the time of the incident, said, according to The Associated Press. "I've never seen a boat of that size and caliber being picked up like a toy and basically launched across the beach." "Watchstanders directed the launch of a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium from Station Honolulu, but due to shallow water depth and sea state, the boat crew was unable to reach the Discovery. Honolulu Ocean Safety Department jet ski crews arrived and confirmed that the two people aboard were uninjured," the Coast Guard press release said. "At about 6:25 p.m. Saturday, Cates Marine Services and the tugboat Miki'oi arrived on scene and secured lines to the Discovery. During efforts to tow the vessel off the reef, the cleats failed to hold, requiring the towing operation to halt," the Coast Guard continued. The Coast Guard said The Discovery, which is used as a shuttle for Atlantis Adventures, is now "secured to the seawall at Kewalo Basin awaiting commercial salvage." Atlantis Adventures told Hawaii News Now that "[t]here were no passengers aboard the Discovery shuttle boat when it ran aground this morning." "The two experienced crewmembers aboard the shuttle boat were not injured," the company said. "There has been no leaking of fuel or oil from the vessel. We are working closely with all government regulatory agencies to have the shuttle boat safely removed from where it was grounded, towed back to its pier location, and thoroughly inspected before it is returned to service." Fox News Digital reached out to Atlantis Adventures for further comment. Pacific Environmental Corporation "removed 2,275 gallons of diesel fuel and 36 gallons of hydraulic oil" as well and "eight marine batteries," according to the Coast Guard. "No pollution or sheening has been reported," they added.

Yacht-sized passenger boat runs aground in high surf off Hawaii beach

HONOLULU (AP) — A yacht-sized passenger boat ran aground in the high surf off a Hawaii beach over the weekend, with the vessel precariously riding a set of powerful waves and appearing to nearly flip on its side before coming to rest. KHON-TV reported that the events occurred around 8 a.m. Saturday when the swells were peaking and the tide was bottoming out. Two crew members were on the 60-foot (18 meter) vessel, named Discovery, when it ran aground near Honolulu's Kewalo Basin Harbor, the U.S. Coast Guard said in a statement. The boat's fuel, oil and batteries were removed, preventing the threat of pollution, the Coast Guard said. A company planned to tow the boat away at high tide Sunday afternoon. The grounding was captured on video from various vantage points as onlookers screamed and the Discovery careened down a swell on its side before temporarily righting itself in the surf. Surf photographer Ramon Brockington told the television station that the Discovery got caught in a series of waves. 'They could not get over that wave,' he said. 'And it grabbed the nose of the boat, turned it to the left, and they started listing. And it pushed them onto the dry reef.' Brockington said it was 'unreal.' 'It almost looked like it was going to flip, but they corrected,' he said. 'And the ship was surfing. I've never seen that before — a boat of that caliber, size.' The Discovery eventually drifted against a concrete wall that lines the shore. An email seeking comment was sent Sunday to Atlantis Adventures, which owns the Discovery. The company told KHON on Saturday that the two experienced crew members aboard the boat were not injured. 'We are working closely with all government regulatory agencies to have the shuttle boat safely removed from where it was grounded, towed back to its pier location and thoroughly inspected before it is returned to service,' Atlantis Adventures told the station.
