The kin accused him of being absent from the blast site for two days and failing to provide accurate details regarding the contract (daily wage) workers employed. The family members expressed anger over lack of accountability and transparency, and absence of an ex gratia announcement from the company despite it being three days since the incident.
The families demanded the names of all employees, their Aadhaar details, accurate number of people present at the time of the explosion and full details of contractors engaged by the firm.
Denying any negligence on the company's part, he said: "We have been running this plant for the past 35 years with the goodwill of our employees, then how can we ignore them now?"
He claimed there were 143 workers inside the factory during the blast. However, families challenged this figure, arguing that more than 143 people, particularly contract workers, were present.
When asked about the cause of explosion and whether it was sabotage, Shanmuganathan said, "We do not know presently, but somebody has to be responsible.
I am even suspecting some other thing (sabotage). I do not want to say all those things at the moment, but nothing can be ruled out."
Responding to the outbursts of the families, Shanmuganathan expressed sorrow over the tragedy.
"I am here to supervise the transportation. We will take care of all their needs and requirements. The company is in constant touch with them. It is not that we are going to run away as the company has been here for the last 35 years," he said.

"Everything will be as per requirements of our employees and their families," Shanmuganathan said.
He said the company informed Sangareddy collector P Pravinya about the names of those likely to be present at the site during the chief minister's visit.
He declined to comment when asked about reports that the factory was operating without a no objection certificate (NOC) from fire department, lacked safety equipment and was not equipped with blast-resistant walls or roofs, despite handling high-risk equipments.
"I was not there for the last five years. Five years ago, I was an employee at the plant. Experts have been called and they will tell us what happened. People who supplied the equipment will also come with those who have the expertise," he said.

Anna Canteens a lifeline for Vizag low-income workers

Visakhapatnam: Anna Canteens in Visakhapatnam have emerged as a major success since their relaunch in Sep last year. As of July 2025, nearly 65 lakh meals have been served across the 25 canteens in the city, where meals are offered at a nominal price of Rs 5. About 24,950 people dine at these canteens daily. Located near high-traffic areas and hospitals, the canteens have become a key support system for daily wage workers, low-income employees, and unemployed youth preparing for competitive exams in the city. They are also a boon for the floating population, especially those visiting Vizag for medical or other short-term purposes, who would otherwise spend about Rs 100 per meal even at modest restaurants. Launched by the previous TDP govt in 2018 as part of a state-wide welf are effort, the scheme was discontinued in 2019 by the YSRCP govt after it came to power in the state. As promised in its 2024 election manifesto, the TDP-led NDA govt revived the scheme soon after returning to power. In Visakhapatnam, 25 canteens reopened under the program, with Rs 3.3 crore allocated for their renovation. Before their initial rollout in 2018, the govt had sent a delegation of civic officials to study the operations of Amma Canteens in Chennai and Annapurna Canteens in Hyderabad. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Seniors are going crazy for these comfy, stylish, easy-on shoes Ultra-Comfortable Shoes Undo The visit helped shape the guidelines and operational framework for Andhra Pradesh's own version of subsidised canteens. GVMC mayor P Srinivasa Rao said about 65 lakh meals have been served through these canteens in just nine months. "People have expressed satisfaction with the quality of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. GVMC officials, along with the commissioner, are regularly monitoring operations and collecting public feedback to ensure efficient service," said the mayor. Local vendor Dukka Suribabu, who sells fruits near MVP Rythu Bazaar, said he often eats at the nearby Anna Canteen. "Offering a meal at just Rs 5 is a huge help for people like us who can't afford restaurant prices. Even roadside eateries in MVP Colony charge no less than Rs 60 for a basic meal," said Suribabu. An electronic token system is in place to manage meal distribution. Beneficiaries must present Aadhaar credentials for token issuance. In the absence of Aadhaar card, fingerprints or facial recognition data are collected for future records. Each canteen spans approximately 750 square feet and is designed to serve food to at least 350 people at a time. The canteens serve three idlis, chutney, and sambar as breakfast from 7:30 am to 10 am three days a week, and puri or pongal with kurma on the remaining days. Lunch is served from 12 pm to 3 pm, and dinner from 7:30 pm to 9 pm, which include rice, curry, dal, sambar, curd, and chutney. Special rice is served once a week. The canteens remain closed on Sundays. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). State's economy in pink of health, says minister Hebbalkar

1 2 Udupi: Karnataka emerged as the highest per capita income (PCI) state in the country as the state govt demonstrated its efficiency in financial management to promote economic growth, said Laxmi Hebbalkar, minister of women and child development and in charge of Udupi district. During the 79th Independence Day celebration held at Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium in Ajjarkad on Friday, the minister said Karnataka ranks second in the country in GST collection, which is a clear example of the state's healthy economic system. Mahatma Gandhi, who led the freedom struggle, visited Udupi and called for the fight for freedom in Ajjarkad. It is an unforgettable event, and the memorial of this event remains permanent in this land, the minister recalled. The minister said approximately 82.57 lakh beneficiaries in the state are receiving direct deposits (DBT) through an Aadhaar-based transfer system every month. For farmers affected by natural calamities, the compensation software was upgraded to provide swift, transparent, and accurate relief directly to their bank accounts without any intermediaries, she added. Stating that the implementation of five guarantee schemes announced during the elections is ongoing, Hebbalkar said that the govt's performance received praise from experts both domestically and internationally. The proposal to upgrade Udupi City Municipality to a city corporation is under review by the govt, she said. Special attention is being given to developing tourism as a major sector in the district. Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, Udupi Urban Development Authority chairman Dinakar Herur, District Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, DC Swaroopa TK, ZP CEO Prateek Bayal, SP Hariram Shankar, and others were present. EPFO rule change: easier Aadhaar-UAN link, faster payouts for families

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has rolled out fresh rules to make it simpler for its over 27 crore members to link Aadhaar with their Universal Account Number (UAN) and correct personal details. The move is aimed at cutting red tape, reducing employer dependency and speeding up benefit settlements. Direct Aadhaar-UAN linking if details match Members whose name, gender and date of birth match in both Aadhaar and UAN records can now approach their employer directly for Aadhaar seeding through the KYC function on the employer portal. In such cases, no additional EPFO approval will be needed. Earlier, even straightforward matches often got delayed due to multiple verification layers. Simplified Joint Declaration (JD) process EPFO has overhauled its Joint Declaration (JD) mechanism for cases where Aadhaar and UAN details do not match, or where a wrong Aadhaar has been linked. Employer-led corrections: Employers can submit a JD request online to rectify name, gender or date of birth mismatches, or to update an incorrect Aadhaar. For closed units or absent employers: Members can submit a physical JD, attested by authorised officials, at the Public Relations Officer (PRO) counter of the regional office. After verification, the PRO will upload the details for further processing. However, changes to Aadhaar details that are already verified will not be permitted. Relief for minor beneficiaries In a significant change to claim settlements after a member's death, no guardianship certificate will be required for minors if benefits are credited directly to the child's bank account. Officials have been told to help claimants open accounts in the minor's name so that both lump sum settlements and pension amounts can be credited without delay. Linking via UMANG app EPFO has also reminded members they can link Aadhaar to UAN using the UMANG mobile app: Enter UAN and verify OTP sent to the registered mobile number. Enter Aadhaar details and verify OTP sent to Aadhaar-linked mobile and email. On successful verification, Aadhaar will be linked to UAN. Why it matters? The updated rules are designed to speed up access to provident fund services, minimise paperwork, and ensure timely payouts, especially in sensitive cases like those involving minors, without unnecessary procedural hurdles.
