Here comes the warmth: Temps in the 80s ahead!
Tonight will be a much milder night than what we have experienced recently – frost will not be an issue with a southerly flow in place that will keep temperatures about fifteen degrees warmer overnight with lows in the mid to upper 40s. We will have a few clouds around with a warm front sliding through and an isolated sprinkle around midnight as a result, but otherwise we will be quiet.
Good Friday is going to be a warm one! High pressure will move off of the North Carolina coast and allow a direct southerly flow to warm us up nicely – all the way up into the upper 70s! Our western towns in McDowell and Wyoming counties should not have any issue reaching 80 degrees with plenty of sunshine expected.
Saturday sees a few clouds filter in with an approaching cold front, but it will stall along the Ohio River as a result of a strong area of high pressure off of the Atlantic coast. That works in our favor for Saturday with high temperatures jumping into the low 80s.
Easter Sunday provides the risk for a few showers in the evening as our front begins to encroach on the region with our high pressure system off the Atlantic weakening. Temperatures will be very warm with highs once again near 80 degrees. Shower chances will begin to increase as the late afternoon and early evening progresses with our front approaching.
Monday brings the return for scattered showers and thunderstorms with our cold front passing through. Though the severe weather threat is much lower with this setup than our last one, a strong storm or two can't be ruled out with our best chance of this happening in our eastern counties, where the front will take longer to cross. Temperatures will be in the mid 70s once again for highs.
Tuesday provides plenty of sunshine with high pressure in control with highs jumping back up into the mid to upper 60s.
Wednesday continues the dry spell with plenty of warmth once again as high pressure nudges temperatures back up into the upper 70s with a southerly breeze in place.
Thursday sees our rain chances return with another system. Temperatures will be in the mid 70s.
Looking ahead in your extended forecast, there are no signs of any last gasps from Old Man Winter – it looks very warm! High temperatures near 70 degrees with a few spring showers are going to be the norm ahead.

Vog to move up island chain due to E/SE winds
HONOLULU (KHON2) – A rather stable, light to moderate trade wind flow remains in place this afternoon. A surface trough lies between Hawaii and somewhat strong high pressure farther north, causing the local pressure gradient and resulting trade winds to weaker than usual, and a mid-level ridge sitting over the islands is maintaining stable conditions with an inversion based near 7,000 ft. A narrow slot of reduced moisture is producing minimal rainfall along windward areas this afternoon, and aside from scattered showers over the Kona slopes of the Big Island and Ulupalakua area of Upcountry Maui, leeward areas are dry. Shower activity over leeward Maui will dissipate quickly around sundown and will diminish overnight on the Big Island. Shower activity over windward areas will remain light, with the exception of a possible uptick near Kauai and Oahu near sunrise. Subtle changes are expected Monday and Tuesday. A surface trough will develop roughly 600 miles northwest of Kauai and cause local trade winds to veer out of the east to east-southeast, possibly causing afternoon leeward sea breezes to be more extensive on Kauai and Oahu. The inversion will weaken over these islands as well, suggesting higher chances for afternoon showers over leeward terrain. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
