Thunderstorms tonight begin unsettled pattern ahead

Tonight features increasing clouds with showers and thunderstorms beginning around 9 PM in our western towns. Storms will advance eastward from west to east through the evening hours, weakening as they do so. Though these storms will be weakening, an isolated strong to severe wind gust or two is possible, along with heavy rainfall. Storms will work their way south and east of the region a little after midnight and we will be left with mostly cloudy skies and a few lingering showers with temperatures dropping down to around 60 degrees. Wednesday continues the risk for scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder, as Tuesday's front stalls just to our south. Though the threat for severe weather will be very low Wednesday, an instance or two of heavy rainfall and a few rumbles of thunder will once again be a good bet. With an abundance of clouds, temperatures won't be as warm with highs in the mid 70s. There will be plenty of dry time and the best chance for showers and storms will be in our southern counties closer to the front. Thursday begins on a quiet note as a warm front lifts north around dawn. Our area will be caught between the warm front and the cold front, which will enable moisture to move into the region. With sunshine expected, a typical summertime pattern of scattered thunderstorms are a good bet. One or two of those storms could provide the risk for small hail and strong winds but the threat for severe weather is low overall. Temperatures will warm back up to around 80 degrees. StormTracker 59 Travel Forecast Friday sees a cold front cross during the afternoon, with scattered showers and storms likely under mostly cloudy skies. With the clouds, temperatures will be cooler with highs in the low 70s. Once again, an instance or two of heavy rainfall in an isolated variety is possible in some of the stronger storms. Severe Weather Awareness Week 2025: Thunderstorms and Lightning Saturday provides the risk for few showers still in the morning with a northerly flow, along with a few clouds but we will see late-day clearing. With that northerly breeze in place, it will be much cooler with highs in the low to mid threat for patchy instances of frost will be around in the sheltered spots overnight as temperatures drop to around 40. Sunday promises to be a beautiful day, with plenty of sunshine expected and high temperatures in the mid 60s. Monday continues the beautiful weather with high pressure still in control and highs in the mid 70s. Tuesday introduces the risk for a few late day showers with highs in the mid to upper 70s. Looking ahead in your extended forecast, it's a quiet and warm pattern in store with temperatures slightly above average in the 70s. An upper-level trough will try to spit out a few chances for light showers, but we are not looking at any particular washouts. No signs of Old Man Winter or even chances for frost are expected. Don't sleep on the UV index this time of year, which will be running very high with the abundant sunshine expected. TONIGHTScattered thunderstorms. Lows near showers and storms, mainly south. Beautiful weather continues but storm chances increase

Tonight features mostly clear and starry skies! The New Moon just occurred yesterday so star/galaxy viewing should still be very solid. It's not as cold of a night on the way with a light southerly breeze and lows dropping down to around 50 degrees. Tuesday will begin on a dry and warm start! Temperatures will quickly climb from the 50s up to around 80 degrees with partly sunny skies. As we move toward the evening hours, we will be watching an approaching cold front. Severe weather will be likely in areas back to our north and west but as those thunderstorms approach our region with the front, they will weaken. An isolated strong storm or two, along with brief heavy rainfall is still possible during the evening after dinnertime. Scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder will be expected during the overnight. Wednesday continues the risk for scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder, as Tuesday's front stalls just to our south. Here comes the warmth: Temps in the 80s ahead!

Tonight will be a much milder night than what we have experienced recently – frost will not be an issue with a southerly flow in place that will keep temperatures about fifteen degrees warmer overnight with lows in the mid to upper 40s. We will have a few clouds around with a warm front sliding through and an isolated sprinkle around midnight as a result, but otherwise we will be quiet. Good Friday is going to be a warm one! High pressure will move off of the North Carolina coast and allow a direct southerly flow to warm us up nicely – all the way up into the upper 70s! Our western towns in McDowell and Wyoming counties should not have any issue reaching 80 degrees with plenty of sunshine expected. Saturday sees a few clouds filter in with an approaching cold front, but it will stall along the Ohio River as a result of a strong area of high pressure off of the Atlantic coast. That works in our favor for Saturday with high temperatures jumping into the low 80s. Easter Sunday provides the risk for a few showers in the evening as our front begins to encroach on the region with our high pressure system off the Atlantic weakening. Temperatures will be very warm with highs once again near 80 degrees. Shower chances will begin to increase as the late afternoon and early evening progresses with our front approaching. Monday brings the return for scattered showers and thunderstorms with our cold front passing through. Though the severe weather threat is much lower with this setup than our last one, a strong storm or two can't be ruled out with our best chance of this happening in our eastern counties, where the front will take longer to cross. Temperatures will be in the mid 70s once again for highs. Tuesday provides plenty of sunshine with high pressure in control with highs jumping back up into the mid to upper 60s. Wednesday continues the dry spell with plenty of warmth once again as high pressure nudges temperatures back up into the upper 70s with a southerly breeze in place. Thursday sees our rain chances return with another system. Temperatures will be in the mid 70s. Looking ahead in your extended forecast, there are no signs of any last gasps from Old Man Winter – it looks very warm! High temperatures near 70 degrees with a few spring showers are going to be the norm ahead. TONIGHTStray sprinkle early. Milder. Lows in the upper FRIDAYPartly sunny. Highs near sunny. Warm. Sunshine returns Wednesday, very warm days lurking!

WIND ADVISORY for Bland, Giles, Monroe and eastern Greenbrier counties until 9 PM and for northwestern Pocahontas County until 2 PM Wednesday. West winds of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph could result in a few power outages. Tonight continues the breezy conditions that we experienced during the day today. A northwest flow will enable a feed off the Great Lakes, with rain and snow showers likely. Temperatures will dip back into the mid 30s, with low 30s expected in the high country. A light coating of snow is expected across the high-country above 3,500 feet in portions of western Greenbrier and western Pocahontas counties, where up to an inch of snow accumulation is expected, so don't be surprised to see a skiff of snow in places like Dawson, Duo, Snowshoe or Clearco by dawn tomorrow morning! Elsewhere, it's a gross overnight with wind chill values dipping back into the teens briefly at times with gusts up to 40 mph and temperatures dropping into the 30s. Wednesday sees high pressure make a return, providing plenty of sunshine to the two Virginias after a cloudy start.
