NDTV Exclusive: Sunjay Kapur's Death Not Suspicious Says Surrey Police
Police were called to the Guards Polo Club in Virginia Water just after 5 pm on Thursday, 12 June, following the death of a man in his 50s at the location. "Colleagues from South East Coast Ambulance also attended and confirmed that the man had sadly died at the scene", the police said, adding that, "His death is being treated as non-suspicious".
Kapur's mother Rani Kapur, approached UK authorities for an investigation into her son's death under "highly suspicious and unexplained circumstances". Regarding her concerns, the police said that they are in contact with Mrs Kapur's solicitors in the UK.
Kapur was the owner of the Aureus polo team and used to play polo with William, the Prince of Wales and heir to the British throne. He became unwell while playing in a match at the club's Smith's Lawn.
He was also the former Chairman of auto components major Sona BLW Precision Forgings (Sona Comstar). After his death, Jeffery Mark Overly was appointed as the chairman of Sona Comstar's board on June 23.

UK arrests 280 in crackdown on illegal delivery riders
LONDON, Aug 9 (Reuters) - British authorities arrested almost one in five people they checked in a week-long crackdown on migrants working illegally as delivery riders last month, the government's interior ministry said on Saturday. Immigration enforcement officers stopped and questioned 1,780 individuals between July 20 and 27 and 280 people were arrested, the interior ministry said, adding asylum support was being reviewed for 53 of those detained. The operation was part of a push by the government to tackle illegal migration which also includes new legal requirements for companies to verify workers' immigration status. Prime Minister Keir Starmer is facing pressure to show voters he can counter illegal immigration with support rising for Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage's Reform UK party. "This government is making sure rules are respected and enforced," border security minister Angela Eagle said. As well as the arrests, civil penalty notices were issued to 51 businesses, including car washes and restaurants, which could face fines for employing illegal workers, the ministry said. Police seized 71 vehicles, including 58 e-bikes, and confiscated 8,000 pounds ($10,751.20) in cash and 460,000 pounds worth of illicit cigarettes. The interior ministry said immigration enforcement teams would receive a 5 million-pound funding boost for the work tackling illegal working. Last month, the government struck a new deal with food delivery firms, including Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat, to share information aimed at preventing illegal working. In the 12 months to July, Britain returned 35,052 people with no right to remain, up 13% on the previous 12 months. France this week agreed to accept some undocumented migrants who arrive in Britain by small boats with Britain accepting from France an equal number of legitimate asylum seekers with family ties in the country. Bijnor jail ‘Smritika' preserves memories of Kakori unsung hero
Lucknow: Revolutionaries like Ram Prasad Bismil and Ashfaqullah Khan, who played a crucial role in Kakori Train Action, are well known, not many know that Sachindranath Bakshi, was also instrumental in the execution of the plan. He was lodged at Bijnor Jail after being awarded life imprisonment. Jail superintendent, Bijnor, Aditi Srivastava, found the records at the jail and got a memorial built after Bakshi in 2023. "When I took charge as the superintendent of 173-year-old Bijnor Jail on July 2, 2022, there was no memorial honouring the freedom fighters once imprisoned there. On examining British-era records (1913-1947), I identified 419 such revolutionaries, including Kakori hero Sachindranath Bakshi, jailed here in 1928. Inspired by my freedom fighter grandfather, I built a 'Smritika' — a memorial with Bakshi's statue and engraved names of all 419 patriots. It was inaugurated on Aug 11, 2023," said Srivastava. Born on Dec 25, 1904, in Varanasi, Bakshi purchased three second-class tickets from Kakori station — a rare event that drew the attention of the station staff. Travelling with Ashfaqullah Khan and Rajendra Lahiri, Bakshi pulled the train's emergency chain after departure, initiating the heist. According to an account from Bakshi himself, when the train guard Jagannath Prasad approached, Bakshi pointed a pistol at him and declared, "We are revolutionaries, not dacoits. We are here to loot the govt treasury for the cause of revolution, not to harm anyone." He even asked the guard to promise not to identify them in future — a promise the sympathetic guard kept, refusing to identify Bakshi during the police line-up. Bakshi fled after the incident but was later arrested in Bhagalpur (Bihar) after the main trial had sentenced Bismil, Lahiri, and Roshan Singh to death. A supplementary trial was held in Lucknow under Judge Bennett, where on July 13, 1927, Ashfaqullah Khan was sentenced to death, and Bakshi was awarded life imprisonment (Kala Pani). In his memoir 'Kranti Ke Path Par', Bakshi recalled his trial with Ashfaqullah Khan. They had agreed not to acknowledge knowing each other in court, to avoid incriminating evidence. However, in jail, they were held together. Bakshi wrote with emotion how he felt dwarfed when Ashfaqullah was sentenced to death while he received life imprisonment, saying in Bengali, "Ek yatra mein prithak phal nahin hona chahiye, mujhe bhi wahi saza milni chahiye thi (There should not be different fates in a shared journey, I too deserved the same sentence)." The two were separated at Lucknow station — Ashfaqullah was sent to Faizabad Jail for execution, while Bakshi was taken to Agra Central Jail. He never saw Ashfaqullah again. Bakshi fought for the rights of political prisoners and led several protest movements. On Dec 14, 1928, he was shifted to Bijnor Jail, then to Lucknow on Dec 26, and back to Bijnor by Dec 31. Later, on May 8, 1929, he was moved to Bareilly Central Jail where he undertook a 53-day hunger strike demanding recognition of freedom fighters as political prisoners — alongside Manmath Nath Gupta and Rajkumar Sinha. Man Gets Life Imprisonment For Raping 2-Year-Old Cousin In 2022
New Delhi: A local court sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping a two-year-old girl in 2022, an official said on Friday. The court of ADJ (POCSO), Mainpuri, Jeetendra Mishra, on Thursday also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Jagmohan, a resident of Nagla Jilhi of Bewar police station area, Government advocate Vishwajit Singh Rathore said. The judge said in his order that the fine will be given to the girl. Rathore said that Jagmohan (20) raped his two-year-old cousin in a village on November 7, 2022. He had gone to his relative's house when he committed the crime. Hearing the girl scream, her family members rushed to the room, but Jagmohan managed to flee. The girl was injured and was bleeding. Her family rushed her to a hospital in a semi-conscious state. Her father lodged an FIR at Kishni police station on November 8, 2022. Subsequently, Jagmohan was arrested by the police.
